A snippet of a Christmas story from the just released Exquisite Christmas on Book Hooks #MFRWhooks #MFRWAuthor

From the newly released anthology of Christmas stories -a snippet from Christmas Knight
Scene set - Tamara is on a holiday cruise ship, but she's very upset. She just received a text from her parents saying they missed their flight due to severe weather.

Tam's chin trembled. Her eyes filled with tears again. It wasn't fair. It's Christmas. Everything's supposed to be perfect at Christmas. A sigh filled her lungs and she released it with a hiccup."When it's such a beautiful evening—dark sky, twinkling stars, soft tropical breeze, why would anyone so beautiful be so sad?"Tamara turned towards the sound of the voice.

Regency Romance author - Jenna Jaxon's on my blog today - Super Excited!

A Regency BFFFor those of you who know my writing, you may remember than I rarely have a secondary plot in my novels or novellas, nor do I have major secondary characters, especially friends for the heroine. I’m not sure why I haven’t explored this avenue of rounding out the plot and having additional characters for the H/h to interact with. In my medieval series, Time Enough to Love, the heroine, Alyse, has an antagonistic roommate and an older, mother-figure friend, but they disappear early in book two. The hero, Geoffrey, has a best friend, Thomas, but he becomes a second hero himself. In Only Scandal Will Do, Kat begins to make friends with her husband’s sister, but they don’t become chummy. Thinking about all of my books, I really don’t have heroines with BFFs.Until A Kiss Beneath the Mistletoe. Our heroine, Jenny, goes to a Christmas party and meets Lady Celinda Grantham. They immediately become best friends and Celinda plays a critical role to both hero and heroine throughout the book. She was a wonderfully fun character to write because she was nothing like Jenny. Opposites do attract even in best friend relationships. If anyone remembers a little short story called Heart of Desire, the very first story I had published way back in 2011, you may remember Lady Celinda. She was the heroine of that short story and after I got my rights back to the story, I decided I wanted to expand it. It’s been sitting on the shelf for several years, waiting for the right time. Then, last year, when I started writing the expanded version of ‘Tis the Season, I knew I wanted to take Heart of Desire and turn it into a series of novellas called A Handful of Hearts—about four ladies who all attend a particular ball in the beginning of the London Season, and then each novella follows one of those ladies as they lose their hearts to one of the gentlemen at that ball. So, as I’m plotting ‘Tis the Season, I decide that Jenny needs a confident or a friend to help her as she tries to figure out who she’s in love with. And for no reason at all, Lady Celinda popped into my mind. I decided to introduce her to readers and then let her have her love story as well, immediately following the novella now called A Kiss Beneath the Mistletoe. But Celinda became such a charming friend and character I find I cannot let her go! So instead of Heart of Deception being Book Two of the series, I’ve decided it’s going to be Book Five. Lady Celinda will have a hand in all the other ladies’ romances—sort of always the best friend, never the bride sort of thing, until she finally gets her story told (although bits and pieces of her romance will be found in all of the other stories).I guess A Kiss Beneath the Mistletoe is actually a prequel to A Handful of Hearts, but I couldn’t resist letting you meet Celinda before Lady Hamilton’s ball in April 1820. Jenny’s certainly glad to have met her and I think you will be too.

Is one kiss ever enough?BLURB:Jenny Crowley has been duped! At her eighteenth birthday celebration her parents announce that instead of having the London Season she’s dreamed of for years, Jenny has been betrothed from birth to Alexander Isley, son of family friends and heir to a title. A distraught Jenny refuses point-blank to marry Alec, and when her aunt offers to whisk her away to a Christmas house party, complete with many eligible young bachelors, Jenny jumps at the chance to enjoy a variety of entertainments, be courted, and perhaps fall in love.Alec Isley is between a rock and a hard place. He desires a marriage with Jenny no more than she does, but when his family’s dire financial status is revealed, he follows Jenny to the house party in hopes of convincing her to marry him after all. When he discovers who else is courting her there, Alec is frantic to keep her from making a dreadful mistake. Struggling with new-found feelings for his childhood friend, can Alec convince her of his love in time to save her from being ruined under the mistletoe?
Excerpt:Dishes of trifle finally sat at each place. Jenny itched to pick up her spoon. She could taste the berries and cream even now. She glanced at her father, who at last smiled and nodded. “So, Charles, when is the wedding to take place?” Great-Aunt Henrietta trumpeted the question from her place at the mid-point of the table, her spoon already busy with her dessert.“Wedding, Aunt Henrietta?”  Papa’s voice rose in a question, but he cut his eyes toward Mamma, who sent a frightened look at Jenny.  Odd, but no more so than her great-aunt’s question.  Whose wedding was she talking about?“Yes, Charles.  Jenny’s wedding to young Alexander here.”  Henrietta nodded across the table to Alexander Isley, who sat up abruptly, staring at her aunt with wide eyes, as though he thought the old lady quite mad.  Jenny thought so herself.  A prickly sensation began at the back of her neck. She shot Alec a quick look. No, his face wore an expression of outright confusion, his brows knit over his dark brown eyes.“She’s eighteen now, and you promised me when she was of age I’d see her married into the Isley family.  I have lived for the day that I could announce to the world that one of my family had moved into the titled class.”  She glared at Mama, who blushed and turned to Jenny.“It’s not as bad as it sounds, Jenny darling,” Mama said, patting her hand. That might have reassured Jenny, except her mother’s wide, staring eyes said yes, it was that bad. Maybe worse. Her heart began to pound and the sweet trifle turned sour in her mouth. “Not bad?” Great-Aunt Henrietta swung her gaze to Jenny and fixed her with a cold blue-eyed stare. “You should be grateful, girl. Your parents and I have arranged for you to take your place in society, as a titled lady in due time.”“It’s not true is it, Mama?”  Jenny could barely choke out the words in a voice that didn’t sound like her own at all. Too high, too soft. A peculiar roaring in her ears made her head light.“Yes, my dear, it most certainly is.”  Great-Aunt Henrietta nodded with such vehemence that the feathers on her green velvet turban bobbed back and forth.  “When your mother refused to marry up, I swore none of your family would ever see a penny of my money.  Then when you were born, she came to me, begged me to reconsider, and promised that you had already been betrothed to the Isley heir here.” She pointed a finger at Alec who looked like he might dive under the table.  “She showed me the betrothal papers.”Everyone at table sat in stunned silence.  Jenny looked down at her hands, clasped together so tightly her knuckles showed white.  All her dreams of excitement and romance during her season had just exploded in the blink of an eye.  Then the real import of her great-aunt’s word sank in and her stomach twisted. They expected her to marry Alec?

Are you ready for Christmas craziness? 5 days - but hey, who's counting.  Today's 8 comes from my short story- Christmas Knight in the Exquisite Christmas anthology. Tamara is on a Christmas cruise as a performer. Her parents missed their flight because of winter storms. But, she has noticed a handsome passenger.  Tam's chin trembled. Her eyes filled with tears again. It wasn't fair. It's Christmas. Everything's supposed to be perfect at Christmas. A sigh filled her lungs and she released it with a hiccup.
"When it's such a beautiful evening—dark sky, twinkling stars, soft tropical breeze, why would anyone so beautiful be so sad?"
Tamara turned towards the sound of the voice. Her gaze met the crystal blue eyes she'd noticed in the audience. Her brain seized.

One last Snippet from Christmas Story Gingerbread Dream Friday Snippets #FriSnippets

From the short story - Gingerbread Dreams - form the Christmas anthology - Exquisite Christmas.
Scene set- Reese is a baker and she's being interviewed by a local reporter. She's getting ready for the question - so what's it like being a baker - she's in for a surprise.

The reporter shifted on the wooden stool. "So, what was it like dating Brandon Roberts?"Reese coughed. "Sorry. Tea went down the wrong…" She cleared her throat. "I thought this interview was about The Christmas Dinner. Not my former…love life."The Christmas Dinner was an annual fundraiser. Cat lover, Reese was thrilled because this year the funds would benefit the local Animal Shelter. Chefs' names were placed into a hat and two were paired up. Together they would create a traditional turkey dinner. One chef prepared the bird and the vegetables. The other created the breads and pies. Reese had already planned out the pies. She was thinking of trying a different mixture of spices for the pumpkin pies. Should I add walnuts to the apple pies? She tapped her fingertips on the counter top.The reporter giggled. "A bit of juicy back history will add some spice to the story." She leaned forward. "Did you really live with the Brandon Roberts? The sexiest celebrity chef on the planet.""Brandon and I dated." Reese placed the teacup on the metal counter then folded her hands on her lap. "But it was a long time ago. Now, can we get back to the charity dinner?"The reporter blinked. "You mean, you don't know?"

A Guest Blog about Marja and Tomas from Exquisite Christmas by Barb Caffrey

A Guest Blog about Marja and TomasBy Barb Caffrey

I'm delighted to guest at author Victoria Adams' blog today. She and I "met" online due to our participation in the Exquisite Christmas anthology, which is available now at all fine retailers in both e-book and paperback. (If you haven't read her stories "Gingerbread Dreams" and "Christmas Knight" yet, shame on you.) We're actually doing a blog exchange, of sorts – she'll be at my blog (affectionately known as the Elfyverse due to my young adult Elfy series) and I'll be at hers – and I couldn't be happier about it.Anyway, I'm here to talk about my characters Marja the shapeshifter (and woman of size), and her partner in all senses, Tomas, an eight-foot-tall mountain Troll. They are featured in both of my stories in Exquisite Christmas, the first being "Marja's Victory" and the second being "To Hunt the Hunter." These might be classified as paranormal romances, though they take place in the wholly different world of Alcaria rather than Earth. How did I come up with these two characters, you ask? Well, one day I thought, "What would gold feel like if you were inside it?" (Yes, authors sometimes think these strange things. We usually snap out of it sooner or later.) And as quick as that, an older, feisty woman popped into my mind and demanded to tell her story. This is how "Marja's Victory" came into existence.I'd never read any story where a shapeshifter could take the form of an inanimate object, though I didn't see why someone couldn't. But I did figure out very quickly that if Marja was a tall and buxom lady – as I believed her to be – she wouldn't be able to be a small amount of gold. Oh, no…she'd have to be a whole lot of it.But why would she need to turn into that form, and what was she doing disguised like that? And who was going to help her remember she was human, and change back from that form down the line?As quick as that, Tomas, her partner, popped into my head. Because he was a telepath, he would know if she was in distress; because he was her lover, he'd have great care for her and not want her to overexert in order to catch a thief."But how does this fit into a holiday anthology, Barb?" you might be asking. It's simple. Marja and Tomas have to find this criminal at Yule – otherwise known as Christmas. And they're not exactly pleased to have their holiday interrupted, let me tell you.Or maybe I should show you a bit of "Marja's Victory" instead? Excerpt
Tomas and I were on a well-deserved vacation when a mage-sent letter landed squarely in my lap. After I skimmed the letter, I told him, "It's Riverside. They need our help to catch a criminal.""Why do they need us?" Tomas rolled his eyes.  "It's Yuletide Eve. Let somebody else handle it.""Apparently, they've hired several other bounty hunters, and none could bring him in," I told him. "Who?""Petr Obrandowski. He's robbed more banks, and actually killed someone this time. He's wanted for murder."""I hate that guy.""I don't exactly like him myself, love." Tomas's mother had been robbed at knifepoint years ago by Obrandowski, the meanest and perhaps the stupidest man in all of Alcaria—because who wants to rob a Mountain Troll? Yet Obrandowski had gotten away with it, earning Tomas's undying hatred in the process. "Riverside wouldn't ask us if they had any better ideas.""You mean they need your special talents," Tomas corrected."Not to mention yours." "Yeah, I know," Tomas groused, his hands already cramming clothes and supplies into a sack. "But why can't we ever spend one holiday alone, dammit?" "It's the price of fame." I sighed dramatically, and went to saddle the horses. Truth be told, I wasn't altogether surprised at the summons. Crime respects no holiday…not even Yule.(End Excerpt)Marja and Tomas work together, play together, and enjoy life to the fullest together. Yet there's an undercurrent to their romance that speaks of two world-weary souls who nearly had given up on love…but then, they found each other. That depth is one of the reasons I enjoyed writing about them so very much.Of course, that's not the end of their overarching story. Because Marja and Tomas are back in "To Hunt the Hunter," this time trying to figure out just who stole a wealthy young lady's dowry – and again, they're unhappy they're being called off yet another holiday (this time it's the turning of the new year – otherwise known as New Year's Eve).I enjoyed writing these stories, and I hope you will enjoy reading them. (And before you ask, yes, I do plan to write more stories about Marja and Tomas down the line. I have to know what happens next!)

When romance writers give love stories to the world, we do more than entertain – we share our hope for something better. These imaginative moments of happy-ever-after warm the soul and ripple outward. The world needs more love, and every bit helps.

We hope you enjoy this collection of heartwarming seasonal tales and delicious recipes by twenty-one Bestselling, Award-winning, and Multi-Published Authors from the international Exquisite Quills community: Victoria Adams, Rose Anderson, E. From the Exquisite Christmas anthology - A Kiss and a Promise by Lyndi Lamont

Sleighing and Mistletoe for an Exquisite Christmas

My story in the Exquisite Christmas anthology, A Kiss and a Promise, takes place on a wintry Yule afternoon in Victorian times. The year is 1887 and the winter was cold and snowy, a perfect setting for a sleighing party to collect holly and mistletoe to decorate the house. And provide a chance for a kiss under the mistletoe…
Excerpt:
Sophia gave directions to the best spot for gathering holly and mistletoe, and Harry steered the horses in that direction, bells attached to the harness jingling with each step. The weather had been beastly for the last month, but it had turned the estate into a winter fairyland. Silent snow-covered fields stretched as far as she could see, and each tree sported a layer of white, softening the stark look of the winter scene. The sky was overcast, and she suspected Harry was right to rush them along.
As soon as the sleigh stopped, Reggie jumped out, made a snowball and threw it at Cora as she exited the sleigh. She yelped and chased Reggie, Phoebe on her heels squealing with excitement. Sophia watched them with amusement. Oh, to be a child again.
But she was long past that sort of behavior. She’d had a season in London, after all. She glanced at Harry and caught a gleam in his eye. “Do not even think of joining those hooligans.”
A Kiss and a Promise is a prequel to How To Woo... a Reluctant Bride. You get a glimpse of Lydia and her brother Harry when they were young and carefree. The story also introduces two sisters, Sophia and Cora, who will have their own stories in the How To Woo series.
The Exquisite Christmas e-book is now available at:
Amazon, http://www.amazon.com/dp/B018F4ACSC Barnes & Noble, http://www.barnesandnoble.com/w/exqui... https://store.kobobooks.com/en-us/ebo... and coming soon to  iBooks and other retailers. The paperback is available at Amazon. http://www.amazon.com/Exquisite-Christmas-Romance-Authors-Holiday/dp/1519495358/
Here’s a bonus recipe that doesn’t appear in the anthology.

Lyndi's Cranberry-Blueberry Delight
Ingredients:1 14 oz. can of Whole Berry Cranberry Sauce1 package of fresh small blueberries (about 4 oz.)1 cup of golden raisins
Mix, chill and serve. That's it!
The recipe serves 8-10 ladies. (The attached photo doesn't reflect the full recipe. It's what is left over after a couple of days of snacking on it.) I’ve also spread it on turkey sandwiches in lieu of regular cranberry sauce.
Since it's so simple, it's easy to experiment. Add nuts for crunch or sweeten to taste, if it's too tart. I'm thinking about adding some of those little marshmallows next time for color and sweetness.
