Afraid I could lose myself in him - Red Tulip on this week's Book Hooks #MFRWhooks #MFRWAuthor
From my contemporary romance/flash fiction - Red Tulip. Darcy is riding home on the subway. A fellow passenger has fallen asleep while reading a magazine.
The magazine slipped a bit more and settled on the floor. My gaze riveted to the open page. An advertisement for an exquisite piece of jewellery, but it was the colour of the emeralds that captured my attention. They were the same shade of green as his eyes.A tingle raced through my body just thinking about his eyes. They held a power that reached into me and for those brief moments of contact made me light-hearted and yet also afraid. Afraid I could lose myself to him.

What to do with leftover turkey on the day after Canadian Thanksgiving
Happy Day After Thanksgiving. Every year, as you clear the table, load the dishwasher and deal with the leftovers, you are probably stymied by the biggest question of the season -- what to do with turkey left overs? If you’re Canadian - you can use these ideas now. If American - save for a few weeks – your turn is coming. Everybody else- you bookmark this and recheck it after Christmas.
Turkey Pot PieThis is one of my go to recipes. Sometimes I make 2. We eat one right away and I freeze the other to have on a miserable winter evening when I don’t feel like cooking.
Turkey Pot PiePrep Time: 15 minutesCook Time: 55 minutesTotal Time: 70 minutes
Ingredients4 tablespoons butter1 medium onion, chopped1 cup coarsely chopped mushrooms4 tablespoons all-purpose flour1/2 teaspoon dried leaf sage1/4 teaspoon dried leaf thyme1/4 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper1 1/2 cups turkey gravy, homemade or purchased1/3 cup water, turkey broth, or chicken broth1/3 cup heavy cream or light cream3 cups diced cooked turkey2 to 2 1/2 cups leftover veggies (or frozen veggies if none were leftover)salt, to taste2 pie shells1 egg white1 tablespoon waterPreparationIn a large saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the onions and mushrooms and cook, stirring, until onions are translucent and mushrooms are tender and browned. Stir in the 4 tablespoons of flour, the sage, thyme, and pepper. Cook, stirring, until the flour is incorporated and the mixture is well blended.Stir in the gravy and water or broth. Cook, stirring, until thickened. Add the cream, the turkey, and the vegetables. Heat through. Taste and add salt, as needed. Remove from the heat. Spoon the mixture into one pie shell. Place second pie shell over top. Trim away uneven excess overhang. Cover loosely and chill or bake right away.Heat the oven to 375° F.Combine the egg white with 1 tablespoon of water; whisk to blend. Brush over the crust. Cut vent holes in the crust with a very sharp knife. Place the pie on a foil lined baking sheet to catch drips. Bake for 50 to 60 minutes, or until the crust is nicely browned and the filling is bubbly. Serves 4.
Notice I didn't put what to do with left over pumpkin pie - cause - duh!!! Eat it!

About Susan Hughes
Susan Hughes grew up near a small mining village in Northumberland, England. When she didn’t have her nose in a book and, careless of the class and gender expectations of her upbringing, she was climbing trees, catching water boatmen in a jar from a nearby burn or go-karting round country lanes with the kids next door before taking herself off to University.A career in the City of London during the frenetic ‘Big Bang’ boom of financial de-regulation was followed my marriage, children and a desire for a change of gear. A move to the rural West Country enabled her to raise her sons near the coast and indulge her penchant for visiting stately piles while finding time to keep up her reading habit. After she found a handful of WW1 silk postcards among her grandmother’s possessions, the romantic greeting on one of them inspired her to weave a story around its imagined sender and recipient. It became her first novel, A Kiss from France. One version of the truth from Dancing in Circles on Weekend Writing Warriors #8Sunday
Link back to WWWWhile I think of it - I won't be on WWW next week - there a Halloween thing happening instead.
From Dancing in Circles - scene set - Julie and Robert return to school. When Robert enters - his rich classmates are annoyed that this punk from North Shore has returned to class. The teacher - innocently - asks why should Robert be expelled.
"I'll tell you what he did," said Derek as he stood. "A friend of mine said Robert didn't hand in his assignment. When Mr. Parks questioned why, he blew a fuse. He was yelling and swearing that he didn't have to do some stupid assignment. When Mr. Parks tried to reason with him, he swore at the teacher."Derek dug into his story. "Then Robert pulled a knife and threatened Mr. Parks with it. Right there in class. I heard Kristal had to leave ‘cause she couldn't deal.""That'd be one version," Robert said, scratching his chin.
Blurb – One born into privilege and a charmed life surrounded by love and family. The other born to a life of violence on the streets as the solemn gang leader of the notorious Shoresmen. A young, idealistic co-ed, Julie, meets a jaded, cold gang member, Robert, and cracks his icy shell, allowing the warmth of her love to awaken his soul.

5 stars - Julie I liked, but Robert, loved that guy. He's thrown some insurmountable circumstances to overcome, but he manages a way around it all quite nicely. While he may be the 'bad boy', he still has a heart of gold. The author did a nice job expressing that while we may not all travel the same paths in life, we still are essentially the same people and deserve happiness alike.

Sexy time and a minnow at the watering hole on My Sexy Saturday #MySexySaturday #MSS113
From my NA contemporary - A Guy and A Girl - Hunter takes Chelsea to his favourite swimming hole.
Hunter floated on his back. "You can swim, right?""I took all my swimming badges. I was a guppy, then a star fish. I made it to porpoise."Hunter pulled her close. Her nearly naked, dripping wet body was a magnet to him. "I have no idea what you're talking about and I don't care."His mouth locked on hers as his hands slid over her wet skin. He knelt down in the water and kissed her belly, just above her bikini bottom. With the same little licks that Chelsea used on his stomach, he worked his way up to her swim suit top. Kissing her chest, his mouth lowered to the bare fleshy mounds. He slipped his fingers under the band and raised her top."What? Ah!" Chelsea screamed and reacted so fast she knocked Hunter back. When he surfaced and shook the water off, she was standing on the big rock on the shore."What?""Something...touched me."

Julie vents her feelings about the new boy at school on Friday Snippets #FridaySnippets
This week's Friday Snippet if from Dancing in Circles - Book 1 - Circles TrilogyJulie's family lived in a large home situated on a tree-lined street in a newer neighbourhood of Westland. Julie loved the atmosphere in her home. It was peaceful and loving, although noisy at times with one younger brother and two younger sisters. She was excitedly waiting for this Christmas, not due to the joys of the season, but because her mother was expecting twins."It's got to be a boy she's dreaming about." Younger sister, Sheila, giggled."Uh? Pardon?" Julie looked around the dining room table at her two younger sisters, her parents and one obnoxious little brother."I asked you three times if you'd pass the salad." Her mother held out her hand, waiting for the bowl. "Anything interesting happen at school today?" Her father reached for the bottle of dressing.Julie looked up from her meal. "There's a new student at school. He's from North Shore.""He's Shore? How did he manage to get into Westland Prep? He has to pay tuition and maintain his grade level." Her father tilted the bottle and Creamy Ranch drizzled onto the lettuce."I don't know, but he's there. We're both in bio. He had a disagreement with Mr. Parks, and the rumours went around that he swore and threatened him with a knife."Sandra Anderson gasped."I said rumours, Mom. I was in class. Nothing happened. He asked Trish out to the dance tonight.""But she's been dating Stephan for three months." Sheila was the gossip-loving sister."I know. Stephan called him out on it. Robert didn't want to fight. He tried talking his way out of it. He said he didn't want to get expelled." Julie realized she was using her fork to emphasize her sentence. She placed it by her plate. "Anyway, later that day the cops...I mean, police came and searched him and his locker, but they didn't find a knife. I've talked to him a bit and he seems nice.""I don't want you going near him. If he's Shore then he's trouble," said her mother."His not being Westland leads into what I was going to say. He doesn't fit the Shore stereotype. He's intelligent, mature, soft-spoken...."She scratched her head. "He's not the stupid, crass, North Shorer that I was led to believe he'd be. I'm amazed at how economically prejudiced we are. We, Westlanders, sit up here in our safe and secure neighbourhoods and pass judgement on others.""Can I go?" Jason stood. His father nodded, and Jason hurried out of the dining room.Unfazed by her brother's rude departure, Julie continued, "You were appointed judge, Daddy, because of your knowledge of the law. Who chose us to pass judgement on North Shore? Just because they live in a different part of town doesn't mean they're bad. But nobody'll give this guy a chance. He's condemned solely because of his address, and I think that's stupid." She heaved a sigh of relief at having vented what needed saying. Her mother tilted her head. "What's gotten into you?""I don't want you having anything to do with this person." Her father used his deep commanding judge's voice. "I've had a lot of experience with North Shore people in my court. They aren't like us. I may call Mr. Morris to see why this Shorer's been allowed in to Westland Prep. I pay a hefty tuition to send you to that school. I want your focus on your subjects, not on…you shouldn't have to associate with the likes of a Shorer."

The author did a nice job expressing that while we may not all travel the same paths in life, we still are essentially the same people and deserve happiness alike.
5 Stars - I loved the cover, as well as the story. I liked the school setting, and the description in the beginning of Julie and her friends. Julie is the dreamer, searching for a happy ending. I also liked Robert, who is a "bad boy" gang leader. "from the wrong side of the tracks," etc. One of Julie's relatives says he has a heart of gold, and he does. He's smart and practical and I think he's great.
5 Stars - Author Victoria Adams does an excellent job at bringing characters to life. I really enjoyed living through Julie's dream of becoming a dancer and her connection with Robert. Yeah, Robert may have gotten himself in the wrong crowd, but he really does portray a compassionate person and in the end he really does grow on you. Can't wait to see the next one in the series!

Blog Ahead Update and Book 2 of Cirlces Trilogy - Circles Divided on Thursday 13 #Thurs13
Quick Update - I've scheduled a total of 13 posts of the 31 I need to get done.
From Book 2 of the Circles Trilogy - Circles Divided - here are 13 sentences
Isn't it great to be in love? Julie stifled a giggle as she snuck a sideways peek at Robert. With his focus on the road, she could revel in the vision of his long lashes, framing dark coal coloured eyes. Eyes that seemed to peer right through to her heart. Her gaze traced the outline of his strong chin and mouth, which broke into an easy grin each time he saw herIt had been a crazy few weeks since he appeared in her biology class. The new kid in the school was from North Shore and to a Westlander, like herself, that wasn't good. But she'd looked past his heritage and found a compassionate and loving man hidden under the shell of a Shoresmen gang member. Somehow, they'd broken laws of chemistry, and oil and water combined to make passionate love.Robert glanced across the cab at Julie, gripped the steering wheel with his left hand and held out his right. She interlaced her fingers with his and smiled. He loved her. She loved him.
Is the love of a girl from wealthy Westland and a street punk from the slums of the Shore strong enough to surpass all that life will throw at them and forge a life together? Is Julie willing to sacrifice her childhood dream of becoming a professional dancer for the man she loves? Is Robert willing to lay down his ties to the gang in order to hold onto his new found love?
Sacrifices must be made, but will they be enough?

My first offical post on the Insecure Writer's Support Group #IWSG
This is my first post at the Insecure Writers Support Group and I’m so insecure about it I’m guessing I’m probably doing this wrong and mild panic is flowing through my veins. Last month I signed up and then my blog went ballistic and I put up a pretend blog just to see if it would even work and it did and people from the group followed the link and I had no idea how to stop that. Just a waste of their time. So that’s only feeding my anxiety. But, I’m putting on my big girl panties and trying again. So let me sort of introduce myself. I have 2 pen names. This one – Victoria Adams - is an indie author. I write NA and contemporary romance. How hard can that be? LMAO!I’m like a bull in a china shop – I just charge through and do stuff. I read articles from other writers and they just blow my mind (full of clichés today – lol). I don’t understand half of what the articles are talking about. A lot are – 10 things not to do when writing. Publishing. Blogging. Tweeting - breathing – eating – sleeping!!!! And it seems that 9 of the 10 things I’ve been doing.Am I a successful writer? Money wise – hell, no. Did at least one person like my book? Yup. J So maybe I’m doing at least 1 thing right.
And best of luck to all the authors who submit stories for the anthology. No way - not me - waaaaay to insecure to even try.

During “The Hollywood Years,” Whitney was bitten by the writing bug and started creating characters that are inspired by strong women with a great sense of humor. In addition to her love of chick-lit, Whitney has also written a series of adventure books for middle readers The first of which, Wilhelmina and the Willamette Wig Factory is available now. Whitney and her husband, Jimmy, have relocated to the beautiful Pacific Northwest to raise their children, chickens and organic vegetables.
Her first rom com, She Sins at Midnight recently won 2015 Reader's Favorite silver medal in chick-lit and Mimi was #1 or #2 in humor satire on Amazon for over 2 weeks.
