Two Red Tulips?? Weekend Writing Warriors #8sunday

Back to WWW

Scene Set- Darcy arrives at her apartment. She triple locks her door then places the red tulip the stranger gave her in a flower vase. She changes and microwaves her dinner staring at a photo of home.I held back a sniff. Then why was I so sad?Ding.Using an oven mitt, I hauled my dinner out of the microwave, and then pulled a fork from the drawer, tucking it into my back pocket. I peeled the plastic off the tray and disposed of it. Balancing the hot tray on one hand and grabbing a Diet Coke from the fridge, I padded into my living room to settle down to dinner and a dose of Dr. Phil.I never made it to dinner. My meal flipped out of my hand and landed roast turkey, mashed potatoes and corn side down on my foot. My Diet Coke hit the floor sideways and rolled towards the table next to my couch. Which is where my gaze had locked on two red tulips in the vase.
Blurb - Darcy O'Calahann, a junior gardener from a small mid-western town, is trying to make her way in the big city.Shamus McRae is a wealthy bachelor with a mysterious family past. Are Darcy's eyes playing tricks on her? Is she losing her mind? Or is there really a Red Tulip tying her and Shamus together?

Julie sees in Robert the man she knows he is on My Sexy Saturday #MySexySaturday #MSS105

Sexy boyfriend. Upper class Julie is in love with a biker. This is the first time she sees him out of his jeans and leather jacket all cleaned up and in a tux.

When Julie reached the head of the last flight of stairs, her parents were waiting in the main hallway. She could read the smile on their faces and blushed at the love she saw. The third last step was a small landing allowing the person to exit in any one of three directions. Julie stepped on it and paused. "Like?" With little steps, she turned, displaying the gown.
Robert walked out from his hiding place and stood at the foot of the stairs. Julie finished her turn. When their gazes met, she gasped and smiled.
Before her stood, not Robert the gang leader punk everyone else saw, but Robert the man she knew he was. His dark eyes were like magnets. She couldn't look away even if she wanted to. Her head swam from the sensuality emanating from the depth of his soul.
He held out his hand. Hers trembled as she took his and walked down the last few stairs into his waiting arms. Their lips met and for that moment, no one else existed.
The passion grew like fire as they kissed. He wanted her. He wanted to make love to her. She wanted him. She wanted to make love to him. They separated with a gasp.
"I've never seen anything or anyone more beautiful than you." His voice was low. "I want to make love to you."His words sent shivers along Julie's spine.

Dancing in Circles - Circles book 1One born into privilege and a charmed life surrounded by love and family. The other born to a life of violence on the streets as the solemn gang leader of the notorious Shoresmen. A young, idealistic co-ed, Julie, meets a jaded, cold gang member, Robert, and cracks his icy shell, allowing the warmth of her love to awaken his soul. But, is the love of a girl from wealthy Westland and a street punk from the slums of the Shore strong enough to surpass all that life will throw at them and forge a life together? Is Julie willing to sacrifice her childhood dream of becoming a professional dancer for the man she loves? Is Robert willing to lay down his ties to the gang in order to hold onto his new found love?  Sacrifices must be made, but will they be enough?
What people are saying about Dancing in Circles

5 stars  - Julie I liked, but Robert, loved that guy. He's thrown some insurmountable circumstances to overcome, but he manages a way around it all quite nicely. While he may be the 'bad boy', he still has a heart of gold. The author did a nice job expressing that while we may not all travel the same paths in life, we still are essentially the same people and deserve happiness alike.
5 Stars - I loved the cover, as well as the story. I liked the school setting, and the description in the beginning of Julie and her friends. Julie is the dreamer, searching for a happy ending. I also liked Robert, who is a "bad boy" gang leader. "from the wrong side of the tracks," etc. One of Julie's relatives says he has a heart of gold, and he does. He's smart and practical and I think he's great.
5 Stars - Author Victoria Adams does an excellent job at bringing characters to life. I really enjoyed living through Julie's dream of becoming a dancer and her connection with Robert. Yeah, Robert may have gotten himself in the wrong crowd, but he really does portray a compassionate person and in the end he really does grow on you. Can't wait to see the next one in the series!

From newly released contemporary romance Red Tulip a Friday Snippet #Fridaysnippets

From Red Tulip - contemporary romance with a little bit of a mystery twist - Scene set - Darcy has been dealing with tulips that mysteriously appear and then disappear - when she confront Shamus about it - he replies...

Shamus shrugged. "What tulips?""The one you left in the gardener's shed, and then somehow in my apartment."His pupils dilated. "I have never been to your apartment."I rubbed my forehead as I explained about the two tulips. "If you take me home, I can show them to you.""Well, I had different plans for this evening, but this has me intrigued. How about another stroll through the conservatory, then I'll take you home.""I'd love to."Linked arm in arm, we wandered around the flower nirvana that was the MacTavis Conservatory. I talked non-stop about the flowers and Shamus patiently listened with a grin pasted on his mouth."Now that I have told you everything you already knew about your flowers, take me home and I'll show you mine."He raised an eyebrow.I playfully slapped his shoulder. "You know what I mean."
Twenty minutes later, I was pulling the key from my purse and opening my apartment door. I paused. A moment of fear shot through me. What if there were three tulips?Shamus followed me inside and across the room to where the vase rested on the table. My heart jumped. The vase was empty. "But…there were two. First there was one, then another appeared, and now…now they've disappeared."I glanced at Shamus. What was I reading on his face – disbelief? No, curiosity. I followed his gaze to the table. Next to the vase lay a piece of paper with a single sentence on it.

From Red Tulip - 13 sentences on Thursday 13 #Thursday13

I barely slept in days, crying myself to sleep and waking moments later, sobbing from the sound of her laughter dancing in my head. A mound of soggy tissues rests next to my waste basket. I'm too hopeless to even manage to toss them in.No, I haven't confronted him. Too chicken. Or texted him. Too proud to admit my own…you know.Trying to appear normal, I crawl out of bed, plaster make-up on my face to cover the splotchiness and trudge to the conservatory. Garry must have sensed my anguish. His quizzes became easier. I did my job, but the flowers offered no joy. Their fragrances did not invade my senses. Their colours dull.

Welcome to my blog and Book Hooks - Pulllllllllllllease leave a comment - even if it's just Hi.  Over 500 views a day and barely ever a comment.

ok- enough whining for this week.

Scene set - At work, Darcy meets a mysterious stranger. She continues with her day and he appears again.

I turned my head, pretending to focus on the ducks, but I watched as he exited the car, strolled down the grass, sat on the nearest bench and smiled.Oh, good heavens. Is he following me? Like a stalker? I gave myself a little shake. Don't be stupid. He probably just wants to watch me feed the ducks.

My Favourite Authors - Dorothy L Sayers

My Favourite Authors
My second favourite author is probably one you’ve never heard of – Dorothy L Sayers.Ms. Sayers wrote mysteries and she did it in a way that challenges your intellect. These are not “easy” reads and they are certainly not everyone’s “cup of tea”, but I love being pulled into her story and chuckling at her subtle humour.
Quick bio on Dorothy L Sayers
She was born in 1893 and attended Oxford. (Yes, the Oxford. The one in England.) She graduated with first class honours which speaks to her academic ability and warning - she writes using that ability. Her first book Whose Body (1923) introduces the reader to one of my most beloved characters – Lord Peter Wimsey. Ms. Sayers was a prolific writer and seventeen of her books rest on my book shelf.
Why do I like Lord Peter so much? It’s sort of like the Harry Potter books. JK Rowling created such a wonderful place in Hogwarts that you wanted it to be real. Ms. Sayers creates such a vivid character with Lord Peter that you wish there were a flesh and blood version out there somewhere. (Of course, with Bunter as he man servant.)
While I searching for a photo of Dorothy L Sayers, I came across a criticism of Ms. Sayers’ writing, particularly the story The Nine Tailors. Criticism - "I set out to read [it] in the hope of tasting some novel excitement, and I declare that it seems to me one of the dullest books I have ever encountered in any field. The first part is all about bell-ringing as it is practised in English churches….
That made me laugh as that pretty much sums up exactly why I like Dorothy L Sayers’ book and The Nine Tailors. I am the first to admit, that book is a hard read – because I know nothing about English bell ringing. But Ms. Sayers vividly recreates the scenes and uses the characters to explain what is happening, all while baffling the readers as to who did it.
My complaint against the reviewer is that he expected a bit of fluff in the book and what he got challenged his brain and he fell down at the challenge. Not all books, nor authors, need to be cookie cutters. And Dorothy L Sayers is one of the best non cookie cutter mystery writers there is.

Series - My Favourite Authors - Agatha Christie

My Favourite Authors.
All this month, I am posting about My Favourite Authors. These authors and their books have been my “friends” since I was quite young. To start my series, I guess I’ll start with number 1 – Agatha Christie. She is best known for her mysteries. Her two most famous detectives are Hercule Poirot and Miss Marple.

Photo – from the Agatha Christie Website - http://www.agathachristie.com/agatha-...
Let’s run through the minutiae of this wonderful authorAgatha Christie was born on Sept 15, 1890 in England. She died Jan 12, 1976.She wrote 66 novels and 14 short story collections and I have them all. Plus the 6 romances she wrote under the pseudonym Mary Westmacott. In 1971, Queen Elizabeth made her a Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire
Her books. Her first book was The Mysterious Affair at Styles and not only introduced the world to her wonderful books but also to the wonderful Belgium detective Hercule Poirot.Miss Marple was not introduced until 1927.I have copies of some stories in different languages. Family have purchased them for me when away on holidays. Dame Christies is one of the top most-translated authors of all time.  I have the Companion book that lists all the books in order and gives a synopsis of each story. I have her biography, the latest book about her mysterious disappearance and her posthumously published book about her world tour. Fascinating letters to her mother and daughter about her travels at a time when plane travel was not the norm. And no – I’m not going to list all 66. Here’s the link to her website instead. http://www.agathachristie.com/christi...
Why I like these books. As I said they are ‘friends”. On a snowy winter day, I love to cuddle under a blanket, near the woodstove, a cup of hot chocolate beside me and an Agatha Christies mystery in my hand. I have read them all numerous times.  It is a delightful to watch how she confuses the reader as it is to be surprised by the who-dun-it.
If you’ve never read an Agatha Christie book, purchase a paperback – as that’s how they are supposed to be read – and settle down for a quiet afternoon read. She will transport you back in time and wrap you up in a wonderful story.

Is the mysterious stranger there or not - Darcy's getting nervous - Weekend Writing Warriors #8sunday

Back to WWW
Welcome to another exciting Weekend Writing Warriors. This snippet is from my recently released contemporary romance with a twist of mystery - Red Tulip.

Scene Set- Darcy is convinced she heard her mysterious stranger speak to her, but she cannot locate him within the confines of a subway car.The blare of the public address system filled the car, announcing the next stop and for the millionth time that day, advising travelers to "stand back."The doors swooshed apart. A horde of commuters poured through the opening. It was brief. Only the slightest catch of my vision, but I saw a dark suit, bowler hat and distinguished the click of his silver tipped cane, hitting the concrete walkway. He was here.Excitement overwhelmed, but fear filled me. I scolded myself for being so silly. He wasn't stalking me to make wild passionate love to me or to…. I glanced over my shoulder, consumed by insecurity. Wiggling my foot, I inched closer to Calla.
