From Red Tulip - This time of the year, the drakes courted the ducks - on Book Hooks #MFRWAuthor #MFRWhooks

From Red Tulip - flash fiction inspired contemporary romance with a mystery twist

Scene set - Darcy is setting off for her favourite part of her gardening job.

The buds on the trees had begun to swell. A sure sign spring was at hand. I inhaled deep, slipped onto the driver's seat and turned in the direction of the duck pond. Joy lifted my heart as I drove towards my favourite part of the day: duck feeding. This time of the year, the drakes courted the ducks. Not like in my life where the drake, namely Justin, was off courting Sabrina rather than me. Okay, so Sabrina had a sexy job as a TV weather girl. But I'm betting those eyelashes, fingernails and boobs aren't original packaging.

Darcy O'Calahann, a junior gardener from a small mid-western town trying to make her way in the big city.Shamus McRae is a wealthy bachelor with a mysterious family past. Are Darcy's eyes playing tricks on her? Is she losing her mind? Or is there really a Red Tulip tying her and Shamus together?

D'Ann Lindun's Falling Hard from the Crashing Into Love box set #CrashingIntoLove

Seven planes lift off…seven planes crash…seven stories of struggle, passion and love in the barren Canadian Wilderness, the coast of England, or the steamy heat of a tropical island. Romance hangs in the balance between survival and death.
Falling Hard by D'Ann Lindun He craves solitude to forget what a woman did to him. She needs one last chance before her career ends. Can a plane crash in the Canadian Rockies show them what really matters?
Excerpt:Gah! How could he sleep when the aircraft jumped up and down like it was playing hopscotch? She wanted to scream, but muffled it with her hands. No one else seemed terribly concerned, so she tried to calm herself by taking deep breaths and willing her nerves to settle down.Just when she’d begun to relax, the plane took a sudden, wild plunge downward. “Shit!” Teagan grabbed for the nearest thing to hold onto and found the upper arm of her seatmate. She wrapped her fingers around his bicep and held on for dear life.He woke, scrubbed his face with both hands and glanced at her. “What’s going on?”“I think we’re going down,” she managed through tight lips.He raised an eyebrow. “Here?”“We’re crashing, you idiot!” The plane plunged and dipped again. Brooklyn screamed. Teagan might have, too. She was too scared to know for sure. The plane seemed quieter all of a sudden. Teagan risked a glance out her window and gasped. The propeller on her side no longer worked. The plane faltered. Tipped to its side. “Dear God, we’re about to crash.” She moaned. “We’re all going to die.”“Just hold onto me, honey. You’ll be all right.” Her seatmate’s calm tone soothed her a little. When he held out his big hand, she grabbed on. How could he be so composed when she was terrified out of her mind?
About D’ Ann Lindun:

Falling in love with romance novels the summer before sixth grade, D’Ann Lindun never thought about writing one until many years later when she took a how-to class at her local college. She was hooked! She began writing and never looked back. Romance appeals to her because there's just something so satisfying about writing a book guaranteed to have a happy ending. D’Ann’s particular favorites usually feature cowboys and the women who love them. This is probably because she draws inspiration from the area where she lives, Western Colorado, her husband of twenty-nine years and their daughter. Composites of their small farm, herd of horses, five Australian shepherds, a Queensland heeler, two ducks and cats of every shape and color often show up in her stories!
D’Ann loves to hear from readers! Please contact her atdldauthor@frontier.nethttp://dlindunauthor.blogspot.com/http://www.facebook.com/DLindunAuthorhttps://twitter.com/DLindunhttp://www.amazon.com/DAnn-Lindun/e/B008DKL9TU

Spotlight on Secrets of the Pomegranate by Barbara Lamplugh

SECRETS OF THE POMEGRANATE BY BARBARA LAMPLUGH

Contemporary Women’s fiction/ Reading Group fictionRelease Date: 23/4/2015Publisher:  SilverWood Passionate, free-spirited Deborah has finally found peace and a fulfilling relationship in her adopted city of Granada - but when she is seriously injured in the Madrid train bombings of 2004, it is her sister Alice who is forced to face the consequences of a deception they have maintained for ten years. At Deborah's home in Granada, Alice waits, ever more fearful. Will her sister live or die? And how long should she stay when each day brings the risk of what she most dreads, a confrontation with Deborah's Moroccan ex-lover, Hassan? At stake is all she holds dear... ' Secrets of the Pomegranate deals with topical themes such as inter-cultural relationships and the moral dilemmas around truth and lies – whether personal or political. It explores, with compassion, sensitivity and - despite the tragic events - humour, the complicated ties between sisters, between mothers and sons and between lovers, set against a background of cultural difference and prejudices rooted in Granada's long history of Muslim-Christian struggles for power.“Lamplugh does a great job of unveiling a little at a time – but still maintaining tension until the surprise of the final revelation.” Rebecca Foster, Bookbag

About the Author
Barbara Lamplugh has been writing since the 1970s. Her love of adventure and travel took her first on an overland journey to Kathmandu, which inspired her to write Kathmandu by Truck (1976) and then on the Trans-Siberian railway, by boat to Japan and around SE Asia, which led to her second book, Trans-Siberia by Rail (1979). Becoming a mother put a stop to such long travels but not to writing. She turned instead to fiction, inspired by the often fascinating and unexpected stories of ordinary people she came across in her work in the community. She also wrote occasional articles for magazines and newspapers, including The Guardianand Times Educational Supplement. In 1999, with her two children now independent, she moved to Granada in Spain, where Secrets of the Pomegranate is set. Her encounters and experiences of life in Granada provide her with abundant inspiration. For several years she worked as a features writer for Living Spainmagazine, contributing around a hundred articles on topics ranging from Olive Oil to Machismo to Spanish names. Alongside her writing, she teaches English, edits and translates. With two children and five grandchildren in the UK, she makes regular visits there. Other passions include cycling, dancing, travel, jazz and reading.

From Newly Released Red Tulip - My love life was exactly like a Dillhoffia – extinct -on Weekend Writing Warriors #8sunday

www.wewriwa.com

Excited to announce that Red Tulip has been released.

Scene set - Darcy is on the subway heading home. A fellow passenger has drifted off to sleep and the magazine she held is slipping out of her hand.

The magazine slipped a bit more and settled on the floor. My gaze riveted to the open page. An advertisement for an exquisite piece of jewellery, but it was the colour of the emeralds that captured my attention. They were the same shade of green as his eyes.A tingle raced through my body just thinking about his eyes. They held a power that reached into me and for those brief moments of contact made me light-hearted and yet also afraid. Afraid I could lose myself to him.Was I ready to give myself to another? Not that there was anyone in my life at the present. My love life was exactly like a Dillhoffia – extinct.

Newly released Red Tulip on My Sexy Saturday #MySexySaturday #Saturday7 #MSS102

Seven paragraphs about a place I think is sexy - a library in an old English mansion. This is from my just released this week - contemporary romance with a little twist of mystery - Red Tulip.

Scene set - Darcy's first visit to Shamus' mansion. Reginald is a Shamus' pet sheep dog.

Shamus reached forward and grasped my hand. For an instant, I forgot to breathe. He stood next to an open door. "My grandmother's library."The aroma of wood polish and old books nudged my nose before I stepped into the room. I have seen this room only in my imagination. Bookshelves reached floor to ceiling, every available inch of shelf space was covered by a book. Stacks of volumes were mounded on tops of small tables. A desk on the far side had three piles and one more on the chair accompanying it.I turned and hiccupped. Before was a fireplace were two worn chairs with small footstools. A table rested next to each one, just big enough to hold a cup of tea while one sat in the chair and lost themselves inside a novel. But it was, again, the painting that grabbed my attention. It was me. Only not me. Someone who looked like me a long time ago."Please. Sit." He indicated one of the chairs. "I can explain."My gaze riveted to the picture, I sat across from him as Reginald settled at my feet.

Blurb - Darcy O'Calahann, a junior gardener from a small mid-western town, is trying to make her way in the big city.Shamus McRae is a wealthy bachelor with a mysterious family past. Are Darcy's eyes playing tricks on her? A snippet from the newly released contemporary romance- Red Tulip #FridaySnippets

Scene set - A man speaks to Darcy - the cyrptic line - When was the last time you were offered the gift of a red tulip? Curious, she prepares for her day of work as a junior gardener, locking the gardening shed as she leaves. The end of the day she returns to the locked shed.

Sighing, I inserted the key into the lock for the big door and drove the cart inside. A splash of colour on the wooden bench made me gasp. I jumped out of the cart and picked up the note resting beside the flower."I offer the gift of a red tulip."My fingers trembled as I picked up the tulip. How did it get there? Did he put it there?I glanced around the shed. Everything seemed normal. No broken windows. No doors swinging on bent hinges.Darcy, snap out of it. This isn't some fantasy story. I gave myself a small shake, then wet a paper towel, wrapped it around the base of the tulip, locked the gardening shed, and returned home. The subway ride was mind-numbing as usual. Everyday people traveling home from work, lost in their thoughts and problems. A few women glanced at the tulip with a curious gaze. The brilliance of the red petals was eye-catching. Smiles briefly crept across the other passenger's lips. A twinkling of joy in an otherwise drab existence.I gripped the overhanging strap and swayed with the rolling of the car. He'd been a pleasure to behold. The kind of man my elderly grandmother would've called a dapper sort. I never actually knew what she meant by that, but the vision of him in his dark suit, bowler hat and silver tipped cane, clarified the definition.Brushing my finger across my upper lip, I wiped away a bead of sweat. The subway was unusually hot for an early spring day.A tired-looking woman sat near me on the subway bench, holding this month's Vogue. She often rode the same car as I. My nickname for her was Calla. After the Calla lily. She seemed quiet and exotic looking, but proud. Like the flower. Something tickled my leg. I glanced lower and watched the magazine slide from her fingers as her eyes fluttered closed and her head bobbed forward. I smiled. Calla always slept on the return ride home. The magazine slipped a bit more and settled on the floor. My gaze riveted to the open page.

Excerpt (And why the book is called The Cupcake Coven :-) )Hanna strolled around the altar ready to thank the Goddess and open the circle. As she turned the corner, her ample hip bumped the altar and a few lit tapers toppled. Three of them landed on the plate of rum cakes and to Rebecca’s horror they ignited. A dramatic blaze shot up over a foot high. Before anyone could react, Dru shouted, “Stand back.” He bounded through the circle with the fire extinguisher. Rebecca remembered seeing it on a wall in the kitchen, but never thought much about it.Hannah yelled, “Stop,” but it was too late. Dru had already
pulled the pin and was spraying the altar with foamy chemicals.
The witches in range gasped and jumped backward to avoid his sweep. When the extinguisher was empty, Dru placed it on the floor. He set his hands on his hips and faced Rebecca. “Bake cupcakes from now on, darlin’. Cupcakes.”

From the just released -Red Tulip - contemporary romance with a mystery twist.

Scene set- Junior gardener Darcy is still enthralled with the mysterious man she met.

What would it be like to be with a man like that? For those few moments in his presence, I was unable to think. My breath caught in my lungs. My palms were slick with beads of sweat. I shook my head, opened my eyes, and tugged the ever-present hair tie off my wrist. "Get over yourself, Darcy. A man like that wants a super model who can slink around on eight-inch heels. Not someone who digs in the dirt all day."

Fur Babies vs Real Babies and Melissa Keir's Crash and Burn from box set Crashing Into Love

Furbabies VS. Real Babies – Which do you prefer?
The lifespan of a dog is much shorter than the life span of a human child. But with children, you eventually hope that they will be around to take care of you. Or as my son says, “Remember Mom, I get to pick your nursing home.”
Both love to give kisses and leave stinky messes. Furbabies and Real babies provide unconditional love. Yet the big furbaby on your bed will help keep you toasty warm during the frigid Michigan winter. Try that with your teenager! Most want nothing to do with Mom in a nightgown, let alone in a bed.

Furbabies shed. Human babies cry. If either of these get on your last nerve, it’s not a good idea to consider either! I was lucky enough to have both furbabies and real babies. The furbabies have been my children’s companions and confidants as well as my own little snugglers now that the children are grown. I’m sure if you asked my son, he’d tell you that the furbabies are getting away with a lot more freedom than he did! But that’s only because they return the car fully gassed up. (wink)
You can see why Keira Matthews in Crash and Burn even brings her furbaby on her second honeymoon. Besides traveling with an infant or toddler on a plane could be much more challenging! Which would you choose? Furbaby or Real Baby??

Crash and Burn is a novella in the Crashing Into Love book bundle. Crash and Burn by Melissa Keir Can Rob and Keira's second honeymoon lead to romance, or will it crash and burn?
On the verge of a divorce, Rob and Keira Matthews book a second honeymoon at the urging of their counselor. Unable to conceive, they've pushed each other away in an effort to protect their hearts. Will a romantic holiday be the ticket to love or a plane crash in disaster?

Excerpt :Crashing waves.A wet tongue on her cheek.Damp and lying on a hard ground, Keira rolled to her side and coughed up water. Unable to catch her breath, she pushed herself up on her hands and knees. Choking, coughing, fluid flowed from her lungs.Somewhere nearby, the dog barked.“Oh, my God. Rob!” She crawled to her husband’s prone body at the edge of the water. She flipped him to his back then laid her head on his chest. No heartbeat.“Honey. Wake up.” She pounded on his chest. Tears flowed down her face. “I won’t give you up. We’ve had too much history. Fight, baby. Come back to me.” She straddled his body and began chest compressions. “One, and two, and three.” She parted his lips then blew into his mouth. She returned to pushing on his chest. “One, and two, and three. Come on, dammit. Fight!”Time ceased as she continued the compressions. Frightened, she shuddered then threw her body down over his chest. Sobs decimated her frame.“Please, God. Don’t take him from me.” Pleading, bargaining, beseeching.Water flowed out of his mouth as coughs rocked him. He gagged.“Rob!” She pushed him onto his side and thumped on his back as he expelled more water. “Thank God. Just cough it out.”“Please don’t cry.” His words croaked out as he rolled onto his back. His gaze met hers. He reached toward her face, but his arm fell back to the sand.“We need to get you out of the water. I can’t do it on my own.” She stood and grabbed under his arms. Pulling him, she quickly tired. “You have to help. Use your legs and push.”This time, he moved out of the water. Gris lay down next to Rob and licked his hand.“I’m going to look around.” As she straightened, her legs buckled, and she collapsed on the sand. “I think I’ll just lie here for a bit.” She curled in next to her husband and let sleep overtake her.

Crashing Into Love:Seven planes lift off…seven planes crash…seven stories of struggle, passion and love in the barren Canadian Wilderness, the coast of England, or the steamy heat of a tropical island. Romance hangs in the balance between survival and death.
Brace for Impact by Daryl Devoré. What could be simpler than a routine plane trip from Toronto, Canada to Caracas, Venezuela for rookie flight attendant, Lori, and sexy R.C.M.P. officer, Guy Lapierre? But Fate had other intentions.
Crashing into You by Lisa Kumar When Ashlee Trent meets handsome businessman Kaiden West on a plane to Australia, he eases her fears even as he sets her heart ablaze. But after their plane crashes into the ocean and they wash ashore, will the secrets surrounding him send their budding relationship into a nosedive?
Crashing Through Time by Jenna Jaxon The most dangerous thing about time travel is knowledge of the past: does she save him and change history, or let the tragic events play out and lose the love of her life?

Falling Hard by D'Ann Lindun He craves solitude to forget what a woman did to him. She needs one last chance before her career ends. Can a plane crash in the Canadian Rockies show them what really matters?
A Splash of Romance by Deb Julienne Who knew a plane crash would lead to romance? Hannah Parks is a trauma nurse on her way to a symposium at the Sister Kenny Rehabilitation Institute. She just started her bucket list and a plane crash definitely isn't on it.  Oliver Lawson's divorce is final and he's looking to start over. A tropical island, a gorgeous woman. Romance is one thing, getting there as a result of a crash landing...who knew?

About Melissa Keir:For my wedding in Vegas, my books and computer came with me but there wasn't enough room for my wedding shoes. It’s all about priorities! As an avid reader, I was probably born with a book in hand. Luckily my mom was also an avid reader, so it was easy to "borrow" her books when my books were finished.I was reading from an early age about dashing men on horseback riding to the rescue of strong willed and capable women who didn't really need rescuing. I came to expect that women in fairy tales should have fought their own battles. When I was older, I found Margaret Atwood and realized that women could re-tell history in their own way and I experimented with changing those basic fairy tales.Fortunately for me, my husband allows me the opportunity to be myself (spend my salary on books) and still takes care of the really important things for me like killing spiders and opening jars. As an elementary teacher, teaching children about the many worlds inside of books is a gift that I’m lucky enough to do for a living. Teaching the next generation to love reading is a lot of fun! Reading the right book can make a new world come alive!Currently living in the suburbs of Ann Arbor, Michigan with my darling husband, way-too-grown-up children and spoiled dogs, I enjoy getting away through a book to escape the harsh winters or summer road construction.
