"When was the last time you were offered the gift of a red tulip?"  I turned to see who spoke while I wondered if he was addressing me. A man sat on a park bench, dressed in a dark suit, with a bowler hat, holding a cane and his head bowed. I shifted to continue along the path when his face lifted and I found myself gaping at two glowing green eyes."When was the last time you were offered the gift of a red tulip?"  I blinked, trying to look away from those mesmerising orbs. "Uh, never. I mean, no one has ever offered me a tulip.""A red tulip." "Okay, no one has ever offered me a red tulip." Uneasiness slithered through me. "Nice chatting with you." Smiling, I scurried down the path leading away from the park bench and towards the gardener's shed. With Jacobs being sick today, I had to hurry to get the last of the flower beds cleaned and prepared for spring plantings. The past winter had been bitter. It seemed tree branches and mouse damage wreaked havoc on every one of the one hundred and sixteen different flowerbeds.I slipped my key into the lock, opened the shed door, stepped inside and shut it behind me. Closing my eyes, I allowed myself a moment to indulge in the beauty of his eyes. Emerald green. As brilliant as the gems locked among the diamonds at Tiffany's. Not that I shop there. Couldn't possibly afford anything on a junior gardener's salary, but I do fantasize when wandering the aisles. What would it be like to be with a man like that? For those few moments in his presence, I was unable to think. My breath caught in my lungs. My palms were slick with beads of sweat. I shook my head, opened my eyes, and tugged the ever-present hair tie off my wrist. "Get over yourself, Darcy. A man like that wants a super model who can slink around on eight-inch heels. Not someone who digs in the dirt all day."

Dancing in Circles on this week's Weekend Writing Warriors #8Sunday

Welcome to another weekend of Weekend Writing Warriors. My 8 sentence snippet this week is from my first release from my NA contemporary romance – Dancing in Circles- Book 1 of Circles Trilogy.
Scene Set - Julie speaks her mind about meeting Robert

"You're pretending to be dumb, but I know you know what the word means." She dipped a slice of cucumber in dressing. "That's what fascinated me. You suddenly pop up in class, don't speak for days and then blow up at a teacher. You go out and play the tough guy on Stephan's challenge and try to negotiate a settlement. I presumed you'd....""Ya presumed wrong.""But you're...?"

Blurb – One born into privilege and a charmed life surrounded by love and family. The other born to a life of violence on the streets as the solemn gang leader of the notorious Shoresmen. A young, idealistic co-ed, Julie, meets a jaded, cold gang member, Robert, and cracks his icy shell, allowing the warmth of her love to awaken his soul.

What people are saying about Dancing in Circles5 stars  - Julie I liked, but Robert, loved that guy. He's thrown some insurmountable circumstances to overcome, but he manages a way around it all quite nicely. While he may be the 'bad boy', he still has a heart of gold. The author did a nice job expressing that while we may not all travel the same paths in life, we still are essentially the same people and deserve happiness alike.
5 Stars - I loved the cover, as well as the story. I liked the school setting, and the description in the beginning of Julie and her friends. Julie is the dreamer, searching for a happy ending. I also liked Robert, who is a "bad boy" gang leader. "from the wrong side of the tracks," etc. One of Julie's relatives says he has a heart of gold, and he does. He's smart and practical and I think he's great.
5 Stars - Author Victoria Adams does an excellent job at bringing characters to life. I really enjoyed living through Julie's dream of becoming a dancer and her connection with Robert. Yeah, Robert may have gotten himself in the wrong crowd, but he really does portray a compassionate person and in the end he really does grow on you. Can't wait to see the next one in the series!

Julie views the gentleman not the biker on Week 98 of My Sexy Saturday #MySexySaturday #MSS98

From my NA contemporary romance - Dancing In Circles.
Scene set - Julie and Robert are getting ready for her cousin's wedding.

When Julie reached the head of the last flight of stairs, her parents were waiting in the main hallway. She could read the smile on their faces and blushed at the love she saw. The third last step was a small landing allowing the person to exit in any one of three directions. Julie stepped on it and paused. "Like?" With little steps, she turned, displaying the gown.Robert walked out from his hiding place and stood at the foot of the stairs. Julie finished her turn. When their gazes met, she gasped and smiled. Before her stood, not Robert the gang leader punk everyone else saw, but Robert the man she knew he was. His dark eyes were like magnets. She couldn't look away even if she wanted to. Her head swam from the sensuality emanating from the depth of his soul.He held out his hand. Hers trembled as she took his and walked down the last few stairs into his waiting arms. Their lips met and for that moment, no one else existed. The passion grew like fire as they kissed. He wanted her. He wanted to make love to her. She wanted him. She wanted to make love to him. They separated with a gasp."I've never seen anything or anyone more beautiful than you." His voice was low. "I want to make love to you."His words sent shivers along Julie's spine. A discreet cough interrupted the moment.

Week 1 - Friday Snippets - A Guy and A Girl #FridaySnippets

A writer friend and I have gotten together to create Friday Snippets. If you wish to join us leave your email in comments.

Scene Set - opening scene from my NA Contemporary hockey/dancer romance

"Chelsea." Kendall nudged her friend in the ribs. "Is that one of your dad's guys?""Who? Him? No way. He's just a hockey wannabe. Ooh. Check the two getting out of the cab." Chelsea giggled. "I love the day before training camp starts. It's guy heaven.""Shift your eyes right." Kendall placed her finger on Chelsea's chin and pushed. "Check the butt on that one."The male object of their fantasies reached into the trunk of a cab, turned, and dropped a huge equipment bag on the ground. He shifted and pulled out a smaller duffel bag, which he slung over his shoulder. After tossing money to the driver, he hoisted the first bag onto his back and headed into the building."Oh my." Chelsea blinked. "I can just see the report on that one. Over six feet tall, weighing in at some solid heart-melting weight. This player is best known for his scoring and seduction of the coach's daughter.""Has your dad, even once in all the years he's been Vipers' coach, let you near a player?"Chelsea winked. "There's always a first time, and no time like the present." She headed towards the main entrance. "Let's go."Hooking her fingers onto the belt on Chelsea's jeans, Kendall pulled her back. "You mean in there? Your dad'll kill us if he catches us. And if he doesn't then my mom will.""Kendall, keep the vision of that guy's butt in your mind and follow me." Chelsea grabbed her friend's wrist and pulled her towards the arena. After passing through the long hallways decorated with photos of hockey teams and coaches, Chelsea eased the conference room door closed while her father stepped up to the podium."Welcome to the Vipers' summer training camp. I'm Coach Henderson. I'll be honest with you all. Camp's going to be tough. Not a walk in the park. Break a rule, can't handle the pace, don't…"Tuning out her father, Chelsea surveyed the assortment of future hockey hopefuls. She bit her lip and poked Kendall in the ribs. "There. Cute-butt's sitting next to the exit." Could a guy get any hotter?

Chelsea is stunned at a revealtion she hadn't dreamt of on this week's Book Hooks #MFRWhooks #MFRWAuthor

Scene set - Hunter and the stripper have a lusty kiss then Hunter leaves the stage to return to his waitering job.

A few minutes later, Hunter's rough voice filled her ear. "Thanks for watching this." He reached down and picked up the tray. Chelsea didn't raise her head. The officer called out, "Instead of walking away last night, you were much more creative with these." Chelsea peeked out of the corner of her eye. The stripper was swinging the handcuffs. Chelsea heard Hunter snort then turned her head and watched him move to another table to take their orders. Two of the girls brushed themselves against him."He's back."Chelsea shifted her attention to Kendall. "He who?"The music blasted cutting off any reply. Pulling a couple of bills out of her wallet Kendall pointed at herself and the stage then disappeared into the sea of women."Chelsea, ladies' room?" Bridgette peered around the club."Yea. Let's go." Chelsea pushed through the crowd, trying not to look for Hunter. When they returned, the table was deserted. The empty bottles and glasses removed, and no sign of Kendall."Where do you think she went?" Chelsea pointed at the empty chair."Maybe she went backstage to try and hook up with that stripper. She was panting when she went to stuff the money in his…you know, his thing."Chelsea's gaze roamed the club. "I don't see Hunter anywhere.""You don't think—" Bridgette giggled. "You don't think Kendall went home with him. Oh, that would be so fuckin' hot."Coldness dropped over Chelsea. Her head swam. He had to still be in the club. He couldn't have gone home with Kendall. Excerpt

"Well?" Peter asked. She started at his voice. Indecision held her immobile. If he could be distracted before the woman returned, she could grab that little knife. She would engage him and get him to leave. "I'm sorry?""As well you should be, but what will it be?"What will it be? What was he going on about? He did not seem inclined to leave. She glanced toward the back door. She had only a fleeting moment to act.She leaned closer to the table, her fingertips curling around the wooden edge. She pushed herself up, swung to face him, and scooped the blade into her hand.Brighit stood, squared her shoulders, and held her head high. Behind her back, she clenched the hilt of the pilfered knife. Elation coursed through her body like a river overrunning it's banks. She now had a means to defend herself against anyone who would harm her. She bit her cheek to keep from smiling. His brown eyes were unusually bright. The hint of a playful on his full lips."Is this stubbornness now?" Peter moved in close, his steps a little unsure."Not intentionally stubborn." He misread her yet again. He licked his lower lip. When his gaze dropped to her breasts, the air was knocked out of her. A full smile now. He was appraising her with total appreciation. The way a man looks at a woman he desires. Her breath returned with a solid whoosh.

I have wanted to be a writer since the sixth grade. My first story was a mystery and I discovered that my classmates loved it and it kept them guessing. I was a voracious reader, even at a young age, and loved the history in the novels I picked up. I was so enthralled with that history that I decided to get my MA in History. The early medieval period is my favorite, as you can tell from the novels I write.Although all my works are fiction, I often like to incorporate authentic places, events, and people to increase the reader’s enjoyment. One of the more valuable lessons I have learned as a writer is the importance of using real history with the flair of artistic license. You’ll discover a world of fiction wrapped around historical people and events! I hope you enjoy reading these stories as much as I delight in writing them.I live in New England with my husband, two cats and a yellow Labrador named Caledonia.

Dancing in Circles on Weekend Writing Warriors #8Sunday

Scene Set - Julie and Robert are having a lunch date. (Next week is probably the last from this book - for a while.) Robert finished his first plate of salad and went back for seconds. "It could take a person a long time to get full eatin' this stuff." He gulped the last of his drink. Julie dipped a slice of cucumber in dressing.
