A 13 line snippet from NA contemporary hockey romance A Guy and A Girl #Thursday13

Welcome to Thursday 13 - 13 lines from my NA contemporary hockey romance A Guy and A Girl

Scene Set - Hunter meets the coaches wife
Mrs. Henderson stretched her manicured hand for the rink door and sighed. The cycle of recruitment camp, training camp, start of the season, player draft, semifinals and finals was about to begin its eleventh year. As she'd walked down the quiet halls, the background of the empty vendor stands, the large pop machines, rows of teams, managers or all-star pictures faded from her view. She'd seen them numerous times. This was her husband's life. But what she was on a hunt for was her daughter. She paused as she passed the rink, pulled the blue door open and peeked inside. Her daughter and Kendall weren't there, but a young man sat on the edge of the boards. His black t-shirt hugged broad shoulders, and his dark hair was shaggier than seemed to be fashionable these days. She walked down the painted concrete steps and stopped near him. "You trying out for the Vipers?""Yes, ma'am." Hunter jumped and grabbed the edge of the boards.

Hunter searches for the hidden handcuff key on this week's Book Hooks #MFRWhooks, #MFRWAuthor

Welcome to this week's Book Hooks
Scene Set - Hunter still searches for the hidden handcuff key

"I must have left it in my pants." She pressed her free hand on his shoulder and pushed down until he knelt before her. "Ladies, I ask you. Should I give this naughty boy any sympathy?"Again, Chelsea joined in with the audience, yelling, "No."The officer turned her hip, to show Hunter the snaps running down the side of her leg. He bit the side of the pants and pulled. Each time a snap popped the audience cheered with Chelsea and Kendall yelling as loud as they could.

‘Pandora’s Prophecy’ is the third in the Greek Island mystery series but can be read as a standalone although some characters from the previous books do make an appearance.Lisa and Mark are going through a rough patch, Vicky is seventeen and has just discovered that the man she thought was her father really isn’t, Ruth is getting over her husband’s betrayal after nearly twenty-five years of marriage. On the surface they have nothing in common except that they are all staying in the same hotel on a Greek Island. As they each come into contact with the mysterious Pandora, their lives will change forever. Bodies begin to pile up as a serial killer is on the loose who might just be targeting the hotel. The Island’s Police Chief, Christos Pavlides, tries to solve the puzzle but he has problems of his own to resolve. It seems that the local celebrity author is the one who holds the key.Jenna’s Journey www.amazon.com/dp/B00EXPDZD2 Sophia’s Secret www.amazon.com/dp/B00LFJGCWA Pandora’s Prophecy http://amzn.to/1LeurJ7

More fun than you’ll find in any travel brochure…Castaway in the Caribbean by Janice Horton

Castaway in the Caribbean
More fun than you’ll find in any travel brochure…
Vacationing on the beautiful Caribbean island of Antigua, Janey Sinclair is persuaded by her magazine editor boss to do a quick island hop in order to supervise an impromptu photo-shoot for the front cover. With no flights immediately available, Janey is directed to the harbour.
Captain Travis Mathews hates tourists, although he’s not above making a bit of money off a prissy and sharp tongued young British girl when she’s desperate to get to the neighbouring island of Tortola.
After striking a deal, they set off together in Travis’s weather-beaten old boat. When the vessel comes to a sudden full stop in the sea, the mismatched pair end up as castaways on an uninhabited island.
In this fast moving romantic adventure about a vacation that turns into a tropical nightmare there’s more fun than you’ll find in any travel brochure.…

Message from the Author
I was incredibly fortunate to spend the summer of 2014 in the Caribbean, writing and researching this novel. I found it challenging only in the respect of being continually distracted from the manuscript by the tropical sunshine, the white sand beaches, the warm aquamarine sea, rum cocktails, and the fabulous social scene on offer. Many of these distractions are well documented on my website, blog and Facebook page, if you are interested in reading the details and seeing the photos! For the purposes of proper research for Castaway in the Caribbean, I travelled to and explored many Caribbean islands and, despite my tendency for sea sickness, I also spent a lot of time in boats. I even got to sail around Tortola, the larger of the British Virgin Islands, in a restored schooner that had been used in the filming of the original Pirates of the Caribbean movie. The Virgin Islands inspired me with the modern day setting for Castaway in the Caribbeanbecause, of this chain of around 90 small islands, islets, cays and rocks in the Caribbean Sea, many are uninhabited. I eventually settled down to write this romantic adventure story on the Caribbean island of Utila, the smaller of the Bay Islands, just off the coast of Honduras. Likened to the Key West of long ago, Utila is a quaint, unspoilt and laid-back little island. Sitting on the largest barrier reef in the western hemisphere, it is also a paradise for scuba diving, which is exactly was what my husband was doing every day while I was busy writing this story.Research is a valuable tool for a writer, so I do hope all the fun and adventure I had in the Caribbean has found its way into the pages of Castaway in the Caribbean. Food choices from Dancing in Circles on WWW #8Sunday

Welcome to another weekend of Weekend Writing Warriors. My 8 sentence snippet this week is from my first release from my NA contemporary romance – Dancing in Circles- Book 1 of Circles Trilogy.
Scene Set -Co-ed Julie and gang member Robert are in a vegetarian restaurant.

"Try a salad. It's good for you. A burger and fries are so full of fat." She rolled her eyes. "You can eat and eat until you're full." Sliding out of her seat, Julie led him to the salad bar and handed him a plate.Robert examined the ingredients. "I ain't sure what half of this is."

Blurb – One born into privilege and a charmed life surrounded by love and family. The other born to a life of violence on the streets as the solemn gang leader of the notorious Shoresmen. A young, idealistic co-ed, Julie, meets a jaded, cold gang member, Robert, and cracks his icy shell, allowing the warmth of her love to awaken his soul.

What people are saying about Dancing in Circles5 stars  - Julie I liked, but Robert, loved that guy. He's thrown some insurmountable circumstances to overcome, but he manages a way around it all quite nicely. While he may be the 'bad boy', he still has a heart of gold. The author did a nice job expressing that while we may not all travel the same paths in life, we still are essentially the same people and deserve happiness alike.
5 Stars - I loved the cover, as well as the story. I liked the school setting, and the description in the beginning of Julie and her friends. Julie is the dreamer, searching for a happy ending. I also liked Robert, who is a "bad boy" gang leader. "from the wrong side of the tracks," etc. One of Julie's relatives says he has a heart of gold, and he does. He's smart and practical and I think he's great.
5 Stars - Author Victoria Adams does an excellent job at bringing characters to life. I really enjoyed living through Julie's dream of becoming a dancer and her connection with Robert. Yeah, Robert may have gotten himself in the wrong crowd, but he really does portray a compassionate person and in the end he really does grow on you. Can't wait to see the next one in the series!

Care to Dance? on this week's My Sexy Saturday #MySexySaturday #Saturday7 #MSS93

This week's 7 sentences comes from my NA Contemporary hockey romance - A Guy and A Girl. None of my books have been inspired by a  song, but the characters do love to dance to music.

Scene set - Hunter has taken Chelsea to an expensive five-star old style restaurant with dance floor and a band.

Hunter stood and held out his hand. "Care to dance?"On the dance floor, Chelsea slipped into his arms. They swayed to the music, lost in the sensations of their bodies touching, separated only by a thin layer of clothing. Promises of the night lingered on the chords of the music. Chelsea's head rested on Hunter's chest. His hands dribbled down the bare flesh on her back.

A Guy and A Girl is on this weeks Book Boyfriend Cafe

');
This week's hot kiss is from my contemporary romance A Guy and A Girl.

Scene Set - Hunter and Chelsea are grown up and married. They are in an Olympic hockey arena.

As the flags were hoisted high into rafters and the opening chords of the national anthem sounded, Hunter held Chelsea's hand and fought back proud parental tears. Damn, don't cry. She'll roll her eyes for a month. Olympic gold! My daughter is on the women's Olympic hockey team and she is wearing an Olympic gold medal.Chelsea released his hand and dug around in her purse for a tissue. Hunter glanced at his two sons and daughter. All had smiles threatening to break their faces. When Chelsea dried her eyes and blew her nose, Hunter leaned over and kissed her cheek."What's that for?" she yelled over the cheering crowd as the anthem ended."For the best twenty-five years of my life." He grinned."Would you do it over again?""In a heartbeat. I love you.""I love you too, Hunter." Even after twenty-five years, kissing Chelsea's lips still started a fire deep in his belly."Oh, stop it you two. We don't need any more little kids in this family."Hunter ruffled his son's hair, held his wife's hand and watched his daughter skate towards them with her medal held high.Chelsea nudged him with her shoulder. "Life is good?""Life is good!"

Reveal - why Hunter's is using a different last name from A Guy and A Girl on #Thursday13

Welcome to Thursday 13 - 13 lines from my NA contemporary hockey romance A Guy and A Girl

Scene Set - Zach is curious as why Huner's last name has changed

"Hunter Taylor?" Zach raised a questioning eyebrow."Thanks for staying quiet. Hunter Connolly died when...he pulled the trigger. Hunter Taylor is trying to make a new start. If I don't respond when the coach calls me Taylor, hit me with your stick."Zach grinned. "No problem. Guess I should be going. Here's my address and cell." He wrote them on a napkin and handed it to Hunter."I'll give you my address when Bug-Eyes gets it and my cell number when I get a new one."Hunter followed Zach out of the party and wandered about the arena until he found the entrance to the rink.

Hunter looks for the handcuff keys from A Guy and a Girl on Book Hooks #MFRWhooks, #MFRWAuthor

Scene set - Chelsea is at a strip club. Hunter is a waiter and is on stage with a female stripper.

Using his tongue, he flicked the slider and caught it with his teeth. With a slow tug, he lowered it. The police officer's large breasts fell out of the restraint of the jacket. She tossed her hair and said, "Take it off."Hunter bit the leather at the top of the zipper and pulled off one side. Repeating the move on the other, he managed to free one arm, but left the jacket hanging on their locked hands. She grabbed his head and pressed his face between her breasts, then shook. When she released him, Hunter grinned and said, "No key there, ma'am."

Tips on Making a Book Trailer by Joan Reeves

Summer Fire Video Challenge  by Joan Reeves

Are you a YouTube fan? I am. I do a lot of video book trailers (Need tips? Just ask!). When I was invited to join the Summer Fire: Love When It's Hot Contemporary Romance Collection, I volunteered to create a video for this box set featuring the 21 novellas by 21 bestselling authors.
Most video book trailers do best at a length of 90 seconds or less. In the video book trailer world, short is king. The shorter the better.
How do you take 21 books and create a 90 second book trailer? You don’t, but…
My Process
Videos are short because the public’s attention span is considered short. Conventional wisdom says that viewers won’t watch more than 60-90 seconds. So if I knew that it was going to be longer, then I had to make the video book trailer so captivating that the viewer would stay with it to the end. Figuring out that simple objective was easy. The hard part was putting it into action.
I chose 3 ways to do this: music, theme, and image.
Musical Background
Music not only has the power to soothe savage breasts but it also has the power to create and sustain a mood. I needed music: (a) so compelling that the viewer would be tapping a foot as the video played (b) music that would set a mood (c) music that would scream passion and romance.
I listened to hundreds of tracks before choosing Scent of Night, an audio track offered by Video Blocks for registered users. I chose this music because: (a) it has an upbeat tempo (b) it sounds sexy and passionate (c) it infers a night full of romance with all its infinite possibilities.
What do you think about the music?
Theme
The theme of sexy and romantic is presented by the text in the video beginning with: Is it hot in here? Or is it me? That’s almost an inside joke because so many women ask this or the alternative, “Is it cold in here?” My darling hubby immediately goes to the thermostat if I ask either question. Look at the text in the video and see how it promotes the theme of passion, romance, sexiness.
Do you think the text sets a cohesive theme?
Images
Each book cover is shown with a caption that represents that book. That caption is short and sweet and tells each book’s “story.”
This was a challenge for the authors. They had to come up with a caption no more than 50 characters (letters and white space combined). The caption had to be succinct and make the viewer want to read the book. Have you ever tried to reduce tens of thousands of words to 50 characters? Not easy!
The Summer Fire Authors did it. Read their video captions below. Then watch the video (https://youtu.be/SfQwk3iJ4yU) and see how the whole thing came together.
Do you think they met the challenge of creating great captions?
