Stealing Sunday on Monday … Again

My dearest and lovely readers … I spent my weekend on the road … shopping. How do the two go together you say? Well, simple … you drive 8 hours round trip to the nearest IKEA to buy a bed for your lovely daughter who needs a new mattress. Given that I live in Alabama, the store in Atlanta, Georgia is the nearest location. Why not go to someplace local you say? Well, it's simple. I've been sleeping on an IKEA mattress for over a year now and it is the best mattress I've ever owned. My...

Why Being Poly Is More Natural Than We Give It Credit For

Symbols of polyamory

Exploring BDSM has exposed many notions and pre-conceived ideas that I didn't even know that I had. It has turned my perceptions and stereotypes on their head and showed me that I have led a sheltered and naïve life in many ways. What I was completely unprepared for, though, was to have my notions of dominance, feminism and polyamory challenged and ultimately overturned.

I grew up in a standard nuclear household. I was also raised a Southern Baptist...

And so it begins …

Stacked notebooks

My name is Gillian Colbert and I am an addict. I have spent the better part of my adult life consuming textbooks to exclusion of all other reading. The feel of the book in my hand is almost narcotic. It seduces me and strokes my senses. Each page, each new sentence absorbed provides a sense of satiation that I find in only one other activity. This addiction has consumed my life in many ways, but I find myself unwilling to...

Guest Author Starla Kaye on Porn vs. Erotica with a Dose of Discipline

Please join me in welcoming author Starla Kaye to Black Door Press. Ms. Kaye is the author of 19 novels, 22 novellas and 5 anthologies with Blushing Books, Black Velvet Seductions, Decadent Publishing, and Red Rose Publishing. Today she dishes on porn vs. erotica and her own brand of discipline with a scorching excerpt from her book, Her Cowboy's Way.

BDP: In your view, what is the difference between pornography and erotica?

SK: I understand that there are varying views of the definition of...

It's Monday, but I'm stealing Sunday

Spent my weekend outfitting my house … I recently moved and took the opportunity to shed lots of detritus. This also  meant I needed to replace lots of stuff and I spent my weekend buying out Bed, Bath & Beyond and then organizing, which means the blog didn't get written, but on the flip side, at least I have silverware again ;-) So, rather the leave the blog empty … here's more information you never cared if you ever knew about me. Enjoy!

Play along at Sunday Stealing.

The Dominant Submissive

Ever since becoming exposed to Dominance and submission, I've attempted to find analogies in my vanilla life to understand and internalize what this means. It was the only way I could think to be able to translate it both into my own personal lexicon and into my writing. The best way that I found to do this is through dog pack dynamics. A dog pack is like a Dom with many subs and then there is a hierarchy among the subs as well — concept that I sometimes see in BDSM. Sometimes a slave to one ...

The Art of Walter S. Morrison

I recently had the pleasure of becoming acquainted online with a young artist, Walter S. Morrison. Mr. Morrison is an extremely talented photographer and painter whose work is hauntingly beautiful. One particular image, Owen, struck my writer's heart. The instant I saw this, I felt as if Mr. Morrison had captured the essence of what happens when I write. Each word, each sentence and syllable is like a thought taking flight. Now, I have the image to go with the emotion. One day, when I'm no...

I'm a Masochist, Just Don't Hurt Me

I recently read a post on a blog I follow, A Life Un-Lived, that got me thinking about the nature of masochism and women. Tteclod, who writes this blog is a sadist and our comment trail included the following by him:

Both your comments remind me of an old news story that ran about 20 years ago.

A guy in prison for rape was upset that he was about to be released without treatment, so he wrote tens of randomly selected women to describe himself, what he enjoyed, and to ask if they might be...
