The Heart of the BDSM Power Exchange

Handcuffs opened in a heart shape

As this blog has evolved, I've begun to notice a running theme in many of my posts and some of my comment responses that I've not really expounded upon. To put it as simply as possible, I believe that the power exchange in D/s, M/s is really symbiotic and synergistic and not an either/or, you vs. me scenario.

Symbiosis was a concept I struggled with when I was first introduced to it in high...

Unintentional BDSM

Like most new authors I have a day job to pay the bills. Mine is writing proposals in response to government solicitations. The one I'm working on happens to be for the Department of Transportation. When I went to hijack their logo for the cover page, I couldn't help but notice its resemblance to the triskelion which has been adopted as the symbol for the BDSM community. Check it out ….

DOT Logo

Hmmm … I wonder if they realize!

Writerly Wednesday: Me, me, me … I, I, I

Fountain pen and inkwell on top of parchmentAs a writer, you're taught that the way to being a good writer is to write what you know. That experience is everything and if you combine observation, experience and technique it is only a matter of time before you get published. This may hold true at its root, but gone are the days where you could simply submit a manuscript to the publisher. Now, you must have a literary agent. Gone are the days where your work stands alone, now they want you to have a Facebook page and a Twitter account...

Sorry…

For my recent multiple blog-personality disorder. I've been trying to find a theme that suits my design sensibilities, the blog's theme and isn't cliche. We'll see how this one does …

Rape me … Please?

Woman crying

According to Psychology Today, rape fantasies by women are common. Michael Castleman's article "Women's Rape Fantasies: How Common? What Do They Mean?" states:

"From 1973 through 2008, nine surveys of women's rape fantasies have been published. They show that about four in 10 women admit having them (31 to 57 percent) with a median frequency of about once a month. Actual prevalence of rape fantasies is probably higher because women may not feel comfortable...

Submissive is not a Synonym for Slut

Ultra Slut Body Wash

The more I research BDSM, the more I come across submissives who call themselves sluts. Now, I'm not talking about girls who have a fetish for degradation per se, I get that, but rather women who, at its essence, equate being a submissive to being a slut. The general theme of the blogs I'm referring to is that because they crave submission they are a slut. Or, because elements of the BDSM lifestyle get them excited they are a slut, i.e., you are a ...

Writerly Wednesday

So, when I started this blog, I determined that it would be about two topics: the craft of writing and BDSM. However, I find myself writing exclusively about BDSM, so in order to add some content about writing, I've decided that Wednesdays will be devoted to the craft. Below is the inaugural post.

————-

Many authors have bits and pieces of several different stories and books going at any given time. I'm  no exception. I find myself burning to get something down on paper to make sure I don't...

BDSM: Submission and the Path to Freedom

In college, I wrote a term paper for an English Lit class on Shakespeare's The Taming of the Shrew. In it, I argued that Kate's submission to Petruchio was, in truth, her release from the captivity of the societal strictures around her, because only with Petruchio and through her submission to him was she free to be herself. Now, at the time, I'd never even heard of BDSM let alone knew anything about D/s, but I look back on that now in a whole new light. Frankly, it makes me wonder if...

BDSM: Reality vs. Fiction and Writing What You Know

The cardinal rule of writing well is to write what you know. In general, there is a lot of my own experience in my writings. They aren't auto-biographical per se, but my life is there between the lines. I think this is probably true for every writer. This concept of writing what you know has been on my mind a lot recently as I continue down the path of writing erotic fiction.

For the last 20 years, I've been in a standard, pristinely non-kinky relationship. My companion, we've never married...
