Hall of the Mountain King

Just a brief music post for the day. Wrapping up …AND INJUSTICE FOR ALL this week for the upcoming anthology, "Lawyers in Hell".

[edit 12:09 pm] Well, it was going to be a music post before they got all "copyright infirngement" on me. Really. You'd think that they would want their song shared. I mean, really.

And people wonder why the music industry is not doing so well…

Eggs In A Basket

I was reading an email this morning from a friend about a mutual friend who has put all of their eggs in one basket, specifically placed all of his books with one single publisher. I thought my response was going to be an easy "Well, it works for John Ringo", but then I really thought about the various dynamics involved when it comes to Ringo and just about everyone else out there. I realized that though it may work for authors who are "mid-list and up", it's not a good marketing plan for...

Bloody Massacre

You know I've been feeling bad when I don't post on here. Headache is mostly gone for now, though it usually comes in waves. I'm readying for the 8th round as I type this.

It's Valentine's Day, which means we get to celebrate the execution of a Christian priest named Valentine at the hands of the Roman Emperor Claudius II (seriously, what the hell was up with the Romans and Christians anyways?). Or you get to celebrate the vapid commercialism of western society which seeks to pollute and...

Braaains! Wait, no…. caffeeeeeeeeeine!

Some people get addicted to drugs, others to nicotine.

Mine is caffeine and it shows at the worst possible times. Like now, for instance.

Twenty-four hours after I stopped drinking soda, my body is screaming at me. It is screaming loud.

I haven't gotten much production done today because of withdrawals. I don't care what anyone says, caffeine withdrawal sucks hardcore. It's not as bad as I remember it being last time (quit drinking soda for 6 months after passing a kidney stone) but it's still p...

One final post for the day, I swear.

eARC Update

…also, for those of you looking for the ebook of Corruptor, it's now available in Nook format over at B&N for cheaper than Amazon.

It also is no longer appearing on Twilight Times' eArc page, since (obviously) it is no longer an advance reader copy. Keep that in mind while you are paying my phone bill ordering your book. It is still available for order through them, or you could save a bit of change and order from Fictionwise.

See? Aren't I helpful? I'm helping you save money!

The Evil(?) Empire?

In a burgeoning world of digital publishing and online news feeds, it makes perfect sense for AOL to go out and pay an extraordinary amount of money for… the Huffington Post.

Really? AOL couldn't find something to spend their money on like, oh I don't know, upgrading something or getting into a venue that actually generates revenue? Maybe get into the ebook industry, the one that is growing, instead of splurging on a company which advertises on its website for you to help "predict the news"?

I'...

Another "Lawyers in Hell" Update

You should really go and join the "Heroes in Hell" page on Facebook. They're currently posting snippets from some of the upcoming stories from "Lawyers in Hell", coming out (I think) later this year. CJ Cherryh, Janet Morris, David Burkhead, Michael Z Williamson and Kimberly Richardson are just a few of the names of the authors in the upcoming volume.

My own story, "…AND INJUSTICE FOR ALL" will be snippetted there in the next week. Go on and join. You know you want to.

Other than the fact that ...

Brian Jacques

I was saddened to learn that Brian Jacques, author of the Redwall series, passed away due to a heart attack over the weekend. He was young, only 71, which always brings to mind my own dad, who is hanging around at 73 and not the healthiest of people.

We keep losing authors I've read over the years. Yeah, I'm not a fantasy fanatic (sorry), but Jacques writing was really entertaining. I know his fans will miss his witty and clever characters. I know I will.

Hell's Bells

I guess I can make the announcement now. I've barely been able to keep quiet about the news.

I was invited by Janet and Chris Morris to participate in their Heroes in Hell series in the latest anthology, Lawyers in Hell. I'm super excited about this and can't wait for you guys to see what I've come up with for a story idea. Just put Marie Antoinette, Henrietta Marie, Rasputin and John Pym together in Hell and watch the fun. That's my intention, at least.

I don't know when it's going to be...
