Dragon Award Finalists Announced!

Okay, I hadn’t heard this until today, but the amazing Kurt Miller was nominated for Best Illustrative Cover for his work on my novel, Mountain of Fire, for this year’s Dragon Awards!

Too cool!

You still have time to register to vote. My coauthor Melissa Olthoff’s cover art for Rise from Ruin (drawn by Pierluigi Abbondanza) is also up for best illustrative cover.

Imadjinn Award Win

Been back from my whirlwind tour of the the American Midwest and recovering from some weird stomach issues that have been plaguing me since my last infusion (they were really bad over the weekend). Just wanted to let everyone know that Mountain of Fire won the 2025 Imadjinn Award for Best Horror Novel. Why horror? Because ZOMBIES.

I have seen the cover for my sooper sekrit project with Melissa Olthoff, the first book in The Bronze Legion series, and daaaaaaamn son. It looks nice. eARC exp...

No Time Math Here

I’ve got to get better about updating this.

For those of you who missed it, Dancing with Destruction is officially OUT and available everywhere you can buy a Baen book. It’s got stories from David Weber & Marisa Wolf, Jason Anspach & Nick Cole (Forgotten Ruin novella), Jacob Holo & Edie Skye, and more! These were some fantastic stories and it was a pleasure editing them.

I was informed this week that my next novel, co-authored with Melissa Olthoff, will be published in January 2026 from...

Bounty Hunter is available!

Survived Libertycon, probably won’t do an AAR (after action review) for it simply because I don’t remember much of what happened already.

On the other hand, Book 1 of the Quintus Fox series is now LIVE! You can grab your copy of BOUNTY HUNTER here! Available in both ebook and print, because I know a lot of you like the dead tree version as much as I do.

Authors You Should Be Reading – Part 1: R.R. Virdi

Courtesy of the author’s website

“Who the fuck is R.R. Virdi?” you might be asking yourself, having stumbled upon this website at 2:00AM while doom-scrolling social media (it’s cool, we’ve all been there). I’m glad you are here asking that very question. Because if you’re not asking, well, it’s probably that you’ve already read his stuff!

WHY YOU SHOULD READ HIM

I came across R.R. Virdi sideways — I met him at a convention a few years before his first novel from Tor, “The First Binding,...

Amazon’s Recent Royalty Pay & Price Change

Recently, Amazon dropped this on those of us who use KDP to handle our indie stuff:

Now, this normally doesn’t affect me too much (I sell more ebooks than print, like most authors who publish through KDP), but it did cause me raise the price of A Christmas Surprise from $8.99 to $9.99 per print copy because of this. I hate doing that, partly because I priced the kids book low so, you know, parents might actually be interested in buying it for their kids. Weird concept here, but I want to s...

Expectations

Not that I have a lot of them for myself, mind you… well, okay. I do, yet I don’t.

Yes, that makes zero sense at all. Let me explain.

One of the weird things about growing up in state-run group homes for roughly 80% of your childhood is the lack of expectations they have for you. The very first home I was at a cranky staff worker lined us up (we were misbehaving or something, I don’t even remember what precipitated this) and walked past us and started labeling us one by one. “Dead, Jail, o...

Appearances and Other Updates

I added a few new conventions to the coming 2025 Summer of Jason’s Relative Insanity schedule. August and September are looking pretty busy at the moment. Throw in infusions, plus writing, plus the regular jobs… yeah, insane is a good word to use.

Wrapping up Book 1 of the Quintus Fox series, Bounty Hunter, and realized the cover did not match the book. Fortunately, I had a few extra covers I’d purchased from Laercio Messias to use for future Quintus Fox books and Jamie swapped things over, a...

Imadjinn Award Finalist (and Convention Schedule Update)

Last year, Larry Correia and I won Best Urban Fantasy Novel at the Imadjinn Awards for our novel Monster Hunter Memoirs: Fever. If I remember correctly, I also was a finalist for Best Anthology for Chicks in Tank Tops, but lost out on that one.

This year, I’m happy to say that I’m a finalist in three different categories! Mountain of Fire is up for Best Horror novel, Salvage Purgatory (coauthored with Kevin Steverson & Nick Steverson) is up for Best Science Fiction novel, and Side Hustle:...

Just A Boring Update

Been busy the past month moving stuff around at the office and two infusions in February, so I didn’t have a lot of energy to spare for anything outside of a bit of writing.

Melissa Olthoff and I finished our edits for Book 1 of our new series, and last night we detail outlined Book 2. We have a rough sketch of what’s going on in Book 3, so the opening trilogy is pretty much set. We’ll have more news on that in the coming weeks. We also finished our short story for Jamie Ibson’s next Baen ant...
