Wild Side
The past week has been a little wild.
Nick and I cracked the halfway point in the second book of our duology. The last time we did this, the second half of the book was written in about 10 days. His work schedule is hectic right now, though, so maybe two more weeks. We’re definitely going to make our self-imposed March 31 deadline though, and then we can turn in the first two books of what we’ve been calling the Salvage Invasion. Pending approval of the series creator, Kevin Steverson, that i...

Update and Cover Reveal
I have been so stupidly busy between work and writing the past month or so that I haven’t had time to update the website. There has been a lot going on!
The biggest news, of course, is that the cover reveal for my first Baen solo novel, retitled “MOUNTAIN OF FIRE,” was, uh, revealed yesterday. Isn’t it freaking gorgeous?! Kurt Miller, Baen, and I all worked together on this one to get the mental image I had of Maddie down pat. I think Kurt knocked it out of the park with this one, no doubt. T...

Side Hustle: Vol. 1 is LIVE!
I’ve been secretly-ish working on collecting some of my short stories I’ve had published over the years and waiting for the rights to revert back to me. Now that most of them have (I have a few holdouts which will come out in a second, later volume) I can collect them into one big collection (see what I did there?) and sell them as a whole.
Which brings us to SIDE HUSTLE: VOL. 1, which is available NOW on Amazon in Kindle and Trade Paperback format. You can find it here.
Look at the cover ...

Helicon Award Win
It’s award season, and here’s my annual “Do not nominate me for a Hugo because I will decline it” post. Give your nomination to someone else.
However, MONSTER HUNTER MEMOIRS: FEVER did win the 2024 Helicon Award for Best Horror Novel. W00T! You’ll probably see a lot of familiar names on that list. Here’s a link for them all.
That makes me a two-time winner now, since SONS OF THE LION won it for Best Military SF/F back in 2020 (technically I could argue I’m a three-time winner, since I was ...

Six Authors, Five Free Books

Oh yeah, it’s that time again to give away some free books from multiple bestselling authors!
This is copied from D.J. Butler’s website. He’s running it, and Larry Correia and I threw in copies of MONSTER HUNTER MEMOIRS: FEVER as part of the prize package.

MARSCON 2024 AAR — The “Getting Old Sucks” Edition
So Marscon was a hit again this year. Thanks to Joel and his amazing staff for making the con run smoothly (in spite all the issues outside forces were trying to cause with the con itself, the staff handled everything with class and grace).
So we actually arrived late Thursday night and after a few hellos, I went straight to bed. We’d just wrapped up Baenmoot, our annual company meeting, that day and I was just about beat. So instead of wandering around and mingling, I was asleep by 10PM.

2023 Year in Review
So 2023 was a wild year in publishing for me. It was one of the busiest years in terms of books published, as well as words written.
In 2023 I managed to have 3 novels published, 1 anthology I edited published, as well as 3 short stories (to be fair, one of those is cheating because I wrote a short story in the anthology I edited). One of those books quickly became a national bestseller (Monster Hunter Memoirs: Fever, coauthored with Larry Correia) and two others hit the orange bestseller tag...

Marscon Schedule
I’ll have a more detailed update in a few days when I do my 2023 Year in Review post. Sorry I haven’t posted a lot since the Utah trip. I had a book to finish.
Here’s my schedule for Marscon, which will be held from Jan 12-14 in Virginia Beach, Virginia

New Online Store
Chris Kennedy Publishing kicked off their brand new online store today, and feature quite a few of my titles there. Now, instead of relying solely on Amazon, you can purchase ebooks from CKP securely and avoid Amazon entirely. I know quite a few people who would like nothing more than to avoid them, so this is your chance to help cut out the middle man, so to speak. You can find the Kin Wars here.
Also, I survived my week long trip to Utah. The signing at Red Dot Firearms was a smashing succe...

Finished and Submitted
So, lots of good news.
First off, turned in ON TOP A MOUNTAIN OF FIRE to the editor last week. Beat the deadline by a week (woot) and was very happy with the final product. It was also about 27,000 words longer than planned (oops) and, from the sounds I’m hearing from the editor, might be increasing in size. We shall see. Right not it’s slated as a Fall 2024 release, so I can’t spend a lot of time adding more words. But if more is called for, then I will endeavor.
Instead of basking in my ...
