Hard vs Soft Rejection (and why the difference matters)

Getting a rejection letter is hard. Quite frankly, it’s one of the worst feelings a writer will go through in their career. That feeling of utter failure, the emotional kick to the stomach that your baby just isn’t good enough. The anguish and despair upon reading “Dear [[insert name here]], we regret to inform you…” Rejection letters are inevitable in this business and we, as authors, are expected to take that rejection letter and move on.

But… but what if… the rejection letter isn’t quite w...

The Month That Was Too Long

So the last few weeks have been…. really odd.

We lost Eric Flint on July 17, which was a rude shock to us all. He’d just called the office the week before to talk (Eric was one of the few authors who regularly called the office) and he’d been looking forward to going home and finishing his latest book. It’s strange. I don’t feel like he’s gone and yet when I think about something I want to ask him it really hammers home that I can’t.

Timothy Zahn made me want to write science fiction. Eric...

Cat Magic: The Game Review

I have found the next amazing party game for nerds!

I’ve been hearing a lot about this game for the past year or so, primarily because I know the game’s creators, Lydia and David Sherrer. The game, which was successfully crowdfunded on Kickstarter, is one of the fun, fast-paced games that you can do in under 30 minutes. Or, if you want to play cutthroat, can last over an hour.

Since I’m not the professional at describing the game, I’ll let the game’s star, Sir Edgar Allan Kipling, Magi...

Libertycon 34 AAR — The Pro Level Edition

**Forewarning — if I didn’t mention you by name here, it’s not because I wasn’t happy to see you but because I completely forgot and I am an idiot.**

This year at Libertycon was a special one for me. Not only was it the first time Libertycon was showing off a Baen Books cover of a Jason Cordova book (okay, I edited the anthology, but it still counts!), it was also my first Libertycon as a Baen employee. So on top of my usual responsibilities as a panelist, I also needed to make certain I had ...

Libertycon 34 Schedule

They don’t have a massive programming schedule uploaded yet, but the schedules for individual authors is ready to go. As usual, I’m going to be pretty busy this Libertycon — and I wouldn’t have it any other way.

That blurred out section? Don’t worry about that section. 😀

I’ll be out and about the entire convention, though, so if you see me and you need something signed, grab me if I’m free.

The Land of Anarchy and Hustle

What’s new in the land of Córdova, you ask? Well, quite a bit actually.

This past Tuesday the anthology STANDING FAST ON FOREIGN SHORES was released from Dingbat Publishing. This anthology features many authors I enjoy reading. Authors such as Larry Hoy, Jamie Ibson (yeah, he gets around more than I do), Kevin Steverson, Mark Stallings, Gustavo Bondoni, and more. It’s doing well on sales but could use some more reviews (a common theme you’ll see throughout this entry). My story in it is title...

Release Date — Part Deux!

We Dare: Wanted, Dead or Alive

WE DARE 4: WANTED, DEAD OR ALIVE is out now and available from Chris Kennedy Publishing. I have a short story in this, title “Hard Bounty”, and features Quintus Fox and his three quantum wolf pups making new friends and taking down bad guys. Lots of fun.

Fifteen outstanding authors. Fifteen stories about bounty hunters and their bounties!

There is no hunting like the hunting of man, and those who have hunted armed men long enough and liked it, never care for a...
