The Mysteriously Disappearing Author

“Where has Jason been?” I’m sure someone asked. In fact, I’m almost positive I heard it come from the peanut gallery.

Well, I turned in the final draft of CHICKS IN TANK TOPS to Baen Books on Thursday, so that’s eaten up a lot of my time. I also traveled to another state for a job interview — we’ll see how that turns out. I have high hopes it’ll work out for all parties involved, and then I’ll have an awesome new job with a company I’ve always wanted to work for.

I’ve also been elbow-deep ...

FactoryCon 2021 AAR — Writer’s Retreat Edition

I just got back from FactoryCon 2021 yesterday and man, Chris Kennedy Publishing knows how to do a convention.

For those of you who don’t know, CKP is the overall publisher of imprints Bloodmoon Press, Theogony Books, Seventh Seal Press… it’s actually quite an impressive list. They’re always looking for authors and if you sign up for the newsletter at Chris Kennedy Publishing you’ll get notifications for open calls for anthologies and things of that nature.

Anyway, on to the After Action ...

Keep Afloat

Today has been a perfect example of why I’ve kept this website up and running for 13 years now.

John Scalzi once said (I’m quoting from memory, so it might not be word for word) — “Social media platforms come and go… but your website? That’ll be around long after.”

Don’t get me wrong. Facebook, Instagram, and other social media platforms are excellent ways to keep up with your readers. However, if you have all your eggs in one basket, what happens to your eggs when said basket is suddenly ...

Unshackled and Then It Got Weird

My coauthor and friend Jamie Ibson has had one busy 30 days.

Today his latest project, written with the amazing Casey Moores, was released into the wild. “UNSHACKLED” continues the tale of Ruxandra Roxtador, the mostly-retired secret agent and ally of Hr’ent from “GUNBOAT DIPLOMACY” as she prepares to fight the oncoming storm of the Science Guild.

Three weeks from now, Jamie’s next anthology he edited (“AND THEN IT GOT WEIRD“) will be released into the wild. The man is busy.

Go grab a c...

Helping Out Another

This week, I want to talk to you about a friend of mine I’ve known for **cough cough mumble** years now who only recently became an author. His name? Shane Gries.

Shane writes what I like to call epic space opera. He’s less about the “pew pew!” and more about the story and plot. Not to say he doesn’t occasionally blow something up, though. In fact, there are some serious “boomies” throughout the series. His stuff is flat-out good. His first book, FROM THE ASHES OF A DEAD WORLD, came out in De...

Wyvacon 2021 AAR — The Unnamed Virus of Unspecified Origin Edition

Wyvacon 2021

Okay, so first off, it’s Why-vuh-con and not Wiv-uh-con like I thought. Yeah, English continues to bully me, even when I try to speak it and claim to be one of those writer types as my full-time job.

I had a lot of fun at Wyvacon this year. Granted, I always have a good time, but this year — thanks to being the Guest of Honor and a pretty flexible schedule — everything went very well and I had fun. And that is the key to enjoying a convention, in my humble opinion. Fun.

Sin...

Wyvacon Weekend

This weekend’s Wyvacon schedule looks pretty exciting. I know I’m looking forward to a good time.

Bonus — Wyvacon has said that anyone under the age of 16 gets in for free with one adult paid admission. So if you pay for your ticket, your three kids get in for free. It’s that family-friendly.

It’s Wyvacon Weekend!Saturday

Release Day

Yeah, I don’t normally see a book release on a Monday, but this is a special case. Today, the Salvage Universe anthology, IT TAKES ALL KINDS, was released into the wild. Created by Kevin Steverson, the first three books (SALVAGE TITLE, SALVAGE FLEET, and SALVAGE SYSTEM) have been optioned for a movie already and is already generating buzz.

Here’s a list of all the authors involved.

Release Updates

The release date was bumped up for “IT TAKES ALL KINDS“, an anthology set in Kevin Steverson’s Salvage Universe. It’s now coming out on September 13. I’ll have a link up once it goes live. I have a short story in this titled “A Most Dangerous Game.” Fun little short story of “who’s the best killer?”

I should have my panel schedule for Wyvacon up by Monday. I don’t know precisely what they are just yet, but I do know I’ll be on three panels Saturday and three on Sunday, plus my judging the...
