Panel Next Week

Next Thursday, Feb 25 at 8:00PM Eastern, I’ll be joining H.P. Holo, Les Johnson and Kacey Ezell for a free panel called “Authors Just Talk About Travel”. It should be a lot of fun. The picture below has more information for those who want to watch, ask questions, or just hang out.

It’ll be my first time livestreaming anything in awhile, so I guess I better comb my hair and shave.

Don’t Mess With An Author’s Source of Income

It will never cease to amaze me how individuals will attack someone all in the name of getting noticed and applauded equality.

It’s award season and as usual, someone had dragged up the Sad Puppies thing once more and tried to use it to make themselves relevant. I normally ignore this sort of stuff because the Sad Puppy thing was, like, sooooo 2015. Those who viewed the Hugo Awards as a literary elitist award which should be won only by those properly approved by the GateKeepers(TM) have full...

The Object of Representation

Two posts in one day? Oh, you know I’m mad when that happens.

The more I look into the ditching of Gina Carano by her talent agency, UTA (henceforth to be called UTI because it’s about as useful as one, apparently), the angrier I become. Jeebus. At this rate I’m going to be Bruce Banner (not the lame one) soon.

I’ve dealt with agents in the past. It shocks people to discover this, but I actually have had two literary agents represent me at two different points in my career. One specificall...

#WeLoveGinaCarano

I don’t get mad easily. I might get irritated, frustrated, and even exasperated, but actual mad? I have a very long, slow fuse and because of this, I don’t tend to get mad very often. I tend to get over things pretty easily (mostly — I have been known to harbor a grudge or two) and typically even forget why I was bothered about whatever it is five minutes after it happens.

I can even remember the last time I was as mad as today, if that shows you how rare it is. It was when a group of determ...

Toni Weisskopf Interview

Toni Weisskopf (Head Honcho at Baen Books) did a really interesting livestream today at Live From The Bunker podcast.

Here’s the YouTube link.

Good advice about publishing in this interview. Check it out.

Don’t Nominate Me

This is just the annual “Don’t Nominate Jason For A Hugo Award” reminder.

I can already hear some jackhole in the back cackling “Never intended to, you loser” to which I reply “Thank you.”

Vote with your wallets and buy more copies of my books. Buy them for your neighbors. Buy them for your cats (cats can read, true story). Don’t waste your money buying a membership to an organization which continues to support child abusers while accusing everyone else of being racist. That’s SFWA, not th...

Layers In A Novel

This whole “staying off social media” thing is working out pretty nicely, for the most part. My productivity has skyrocketed over the past month, with January coming in at a cool 63,000 words written for the month alone. February is already on pace to surpass that mark, even with three fewer days. Granted, I’m not sure I can keep the 3,000 words per day pace up for long, but right now? Right now it’s niiiiiiiiice.

Book 2 of the epic fantasy saga is about 25% completed already. “But Jason,” I ...

Drifting and Compatibility

The fantasy world is much more preferable, as an author, than the real one.

Progress is moving smoothly along for Book 2 of A Cycle of Shadow and Light. An early problem with some timing was easily rectified after Gary and I decided to tackle the issue from a different angle. With that plan in hand, the story is now motoring along and the pacing issue I was having is gone. Huzzah!

Best of all, the characters are cooperating and letting us show their growth through the chapters. Of course t...

Fantasy Shenanigans

January is shaping up to be quite the month.

My first ever fantasy series, A Cycle of Shadow and Light, can finally be talked about a little bit. Still can’t tell everything about it, but I can say my co-author and I see this as (at least) a six book series. Considering my productivity levels, I figure we’ll have these six books done by 2023 at the latest. Book 1 of A Cycle of Shadow and Light is titled THE EMISSARY OF SHADOW. I’m writing this series with NYT bestselling author/editor Gary Po...

Social Media Separation

I’ve been on hiatus from social media in 2021 so far and I have to tell you, my stress levels have reduced drastically because of it. I don’t know what it is about social media which drives people to dwell in a dark cavern of fear and spout nonsense in their echo chambers, but I for one am glad to be taking a break. I might just continue to stay away from it all together. My stomach seems to agree with the absence.

Still chugging along on the work in progress. I’d made a lot of positive strid...
