Cover Reveal

Other than Release Day, cover reveal days are some of my favorites days.

Release Day for my upcoming Four Horsemen Universe novel (and sequel to SONS OF THE LION), DAUGHTER OF THE PRIDE, is slated for July 10, 2020. Im super stoked because not only is the cover art gorgeous, it carries on the story of one of my favorite characters from SotL, Lieutenant Sunshine.

Here the cover. Aint it purty?

Daughter of the Pride

DAUGHTER OF THE PRIDE is finished! Yay!

Its just under 100,000 words long and took me 3 months to write (counting my 3 week lost period when I had shingles, so really I wrote this one in 9 weeks). Its a direct sequel to SONS OF THE LION, though takes place roughly 3-6 months later. I dont have cover art yet but I was told this afternoon it is forthcoming. No idea as to a release date yet, however. Ill let you know when thats supposed to happen as soon as I find out.

No rest for the wicked,...

2020 Helicon Award Winner

Lets be honest most authors dont write a book to go out and win awards. We typically write it because we have a story to tell. Anybody who writes a book just to win an award? Well, more power to them, I suppose.

I found out today that SONS OF THE LION won the 2020 Helicon Award for Best Military Science Fiction. Thats pretty awesome if you ask me. It wasnt my goal at all to aim for any awards when I wrote it almost two years ago, but hey, if people want to show the Kakata Korps some love,...

Abgesagt! Canceled! Cancelado?!

FantaSci is canceled. I, like everyone else, am upset but understand the convention staffs response due to the state of emergency being declared by the Governor of North Carolina.

It really sucks because of how much fun I had last year, and how long Ive been looking forward to this years edition. However, so far as I can tell, Libertycon, Wyvacon, and Dragoncon are all still a go. Im uncertain about my trip to Texas, though I wont change that until the last minute should something go awry.

Id...

XFL Week 4 — Non-Review

[image error]Copyright 2020 XFL

No XFL review this week. Sorry. I’m on the home stretch of DAUGHTERS OF THE PRIDE and I don’t want to stop. The XFL Review usually takes a few hours to compile because I go through all the games again, write up my thoughts, and compare stats.

However, I did finish 2-2 last weekend, watched my DC Defenders get humiliated once again, and got surprised by Tampa (two 100-yard rushers? NICE) and had my faith in Jordan Ta’amu reaffirmed (he’s quickly turning me into a...

FantaSci Schedule

I’m not overly busy this coming FantaSci, which means I have a lot of time to cause shenanigans do things I normally wouldn’t have time to do. I actually get to sleep in on Sunday morning which, if you know me, is a huge deal (I’m usually on the earliest panels possible because they love me… really). The Guest of Honor this year is Larry Correia, he of Monster Hunter International fame (as well as Dead Six, Saga of the Forgotten Warrior, and The Grimnoir Series).

Friday 2:00PM (Rose Room) —...

Home Stretch

I’ve been quiet this week (I actually posted twice this week already, but those were scheduled in advance) because I am currently on the home stretch of my next Four Horsemen novel, DAUGHTERS OF THE PRIDE. I can see the ending, and the middle is coming along nicely. There’s a few parts I want to go back and clean up a bit, since it reads a bit muddled to me. But overall? I’m very happy with this book so far, and I feel it is a worthy sequel to SONS OF THE LION.

I was at Target yesterday (yes,...

Award Season Is At Hand

Man, has my email really blown up the past 48 hours with people asking me to conisder them in my nominations process. I read them all, mind you. It’s interesting to see some of the people asking me to nominate their book. Some I haven’t read, some aren’t even out yet (how???), and some I have read and realized halfway through that I would rather be beaten over the head with a clawed hammer while hungover than finish the book.

But… that’s the beauty of award season. It’s simply fascinating to...

XFL Week 3 In Review

[image error]Copyright 2020 XFL

This was actually the best week of the season, hands down. We saw a major upset (well, it was a major upset in my book), some really good shootouts and quarterbacks playing better than they have all season (and in one case, far worse). My beloved Defenders got spanked, and it wasn’t even close. Every team lays an egg once in a while but c’mon guys, against Los Angeles?

— The Really Good —

PJ Walker, QB — Houston (24-36, 306 yds, 3TDs, 0 INT — 4 carries, 34 yds, 1 TD) — I’m...
