The Recommended Series — Part 2 — The Vampire Empire Series
Let it be known that because of their fourth book in this universe, The Geomancer, I’m giving it a pass on the “no trilogies” rule for the Recommended Series series (I really need a better title). This being said, let me welcome you into the amazing alternate universe world of the Vampire Empire, where humanity has been chased from the cold northern climates by the vampires who revealed their existence sometime in the 1880’s and the United Kingdom is being ruled from near the equator due to...

XFL Week 2 In Review
Let’s preface this with an asterisk: I really only enjoyed watching two games this weekend. The other two left me feeling blah. Much like NFL teams, without a quality QB nobody’s really going to go anywhere, no matter how hard you play. And in the XFL, like the NFL, a quality QB is a rare commodity. There are three QBs in the XFL right now who are showing star potential and could all be household names if the league hangs around for awhile, which I am really hoping it does....

Maintain the Flow
Sometimes the words flow and life is good.
Other times, well, it’s like a tooth extraction gone horribly wrong.
This past week has been an interesting mesh of being both unable to write and yet still averaging almost 2,000 words per day. I’ve been focusing mostly on DAUGHTERS OF THE PRIDE, though I did work some on the sooper sekrit projeckt as well as a short story for the next anthology I’m in. Weird thing… I’m pretty good at coming up with book titles, but short stories? Ugh. Short story...

The Recommended Series — Part 1 — The Dresden Files
I started thinking about doing this multi-part series whenever I hit a brick wall in my own writing. Today, for example, I’ve only managed to get 500 words on before my brain decided it did not want to cooperate. Which is fine, really. I can bludgeon it back into shape later.
The trick in writing, however, is to not stop. So instead of falling down the YouTube rabbit hole (it’s amazing what you can find on YouTube when you start clicking random videos) I’m going to start this Recommended...

5 (More) Authors You Should Be Reading
Yesterday’s post was actually quite the hit, though you can imagine just how many people responded to me privately with “why wasn’t so-and-so on the list?” Plus, nobody got mad at me about the clickbait headline. Go me!
(editor’s note: if you’re going to steal this list, please acknowledge where it came from. I appreciate it)
So today I’m continuing the list. Good news: every single one of these authors is currently sitting on one of my bookshelves in my office. Bad news: you’re…. going to...

5 Authors You Should Be Reading Right Now
Ugh, that is such a clickbaity headline, I’m tempted to change it before I hit “publish”. If it still says “5 Authors You Should Be Reading Right Now” then congratulations, you’ve seen that my trollishness outweighs my maturity level by a factor of ten.
A few on this list are brand new. Others have been around for awhile. I’ve been working on this list for a few weeks because I’ve been slacking on my own productivity (I usually average 3,000 words written per day… lately, it’s only been...

Always Asking Questions
The shingles are mostly gone now minus some scarring (it looks like I was shot in the ribs with a shotgun), so of course my body decides it’s time to get sick. This would be amusing if not for the amount of writing time I missed in January.
I’m just wondering… how many of you here come here through Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram? How many actually follow me using wordpress and the email following? I can see how many people come here daily, and where they were referred from, but I’m just...

Audible Gold
The shingles are starting to go away some, so I’ve been up and moving about a little more now that the pain is manageable. It still kinda sucks, and from the looks of things I’m going to have severe scarring around my ribs on my right side, but otherwise I should make a full recovery. Once this is over I’m going back to the VA and saying “okay, two times before I’m 42 is MORE than enough! Give me the vaccine!”
[image error]I was in quite a bit of pain yesterday and forgot to post that SONS OF THE LION is...

One Sick Author
I’ve been quiet lately due to being stricken with a bad case of shingles, which is pretty much the same disease as chicken pox but only those who have had it get it (from my understanding of this). It’s really painful and has made sitting down difficult (or laying in bed, or walking… pretty much everything is pain right now), so I haven’t been writing much, if at all.
Which stinks because the sequel of Sons of the Lion was motoring along at a brisk pace before all this began.
Currently ...

Baby It's Cold Outside
It’s winter finally! We got snow yesterday in the Blue Ridge Mountains and it actually stuck around for today! Yay!
For those of you who didn’t know, I love the snow. It was probably the only thing I liked about living in Colorado. Well, that and I had some really good friends there.
Yes, I find it weird as well that I would move to a state where it doesn’t really snow often.
One day I might live in Idaho, Montana, or Utah. They get a LOT of snow up there. Minnesota might be a bit too far...
