Who Dares, Wins (and other stuff)

I need to get better at updating more regularly. There are dozens of people wondering what’s going on.

I keep starting, then stopping, an essay on the Ukrainian-Russian War. I don’t have all the information, which means a good chunk of the essay would be based on my own historical knowledge, presumptions, and prejudices of the region. Mostly though, I’m appalled at the way our elected officials here in the states have reacted. It felt like this was something which could have been avoided but ...

Just the Average February Update

Just a quick update letting everyone know I’m still (somehow) alive.

THE EXECUTIONERS was turned in and is now awaiting its release date. It’s an exciting Four Horsemen novel with lots of ‘splodey bits, and written with Matt Novotny. My guess? Maybe May, possibly June. Not sure yet. Once I have the release date and cover, I’ll share.

CHICKS IN TANKS TOPS is looking more and more like an early 2023 release from Baen Books. No cover yet, but the book is in Toni’s hands.

MONSTER HUNTER MEM...

Crazy Train to the South

What a crazy few weeks it has been!

Packing up to move was an adventure, to say the least. It was one of those last-minute “Oh crap, we’re leaving in 3 days and we’re not finished packing!” sort of things. 1 star out of 5, do not recommend. But with the help of our friends Mike and Ashley (the latter of whom collaborated with me on a short story in the forthcoming CHICKS IN TANK TOPS anthology), we somehow managed to get everything packed and loaded onto the big U-Haul truck in time for the m...

Moving Day Is Close

Not that I’m counting or anything, but I’m eight days away from moving out of my house and to another state. I’m super excited about moving for my new job. However, there’s a little sentimental attachment I have to this place. My current house goes up for sale in a few weeks, if not sooner and is the longest I’ve ever stayed anywhere in my life — a little over 7 years. One of the many downsides of living in a ton of group homes growing up is the constant moving. You never really learn how to mak...

2021 Year In Review

So… yeah. That happened.

I have to admit, when the year started I was full of hope. 2020 had sucked hard enough for three years, so I figured 2021 would be a lot better. In some regards, it was. I finished two books and almost completed three others. I actually attended two conventions last year, which is double what I went to in 2020. I signed two book contracts with Baen Books (editing the CHICKS IN TANK TOPS anthology, and MONSTER HUNTER MEMOIRS: FEVER, coauthored with Larry Correia). I al...

Worldcon 2023

I enjoy kicking a hornet’s nest. Seriously. Outside of hating the Red Sox and Patriots (eh, New England in general… and I’ll throw New York into it just to piss both of them off), it’s probably my favorite past time. But this? This is gold. I couldn’t have gotten this level of schadenfreude if I’d paid for it. This? This is DELICIOUS.

I seriously thought I was getting pranked when it was announced that the city of Chengdu, China won the bid for the 2023 Worldcon. I mean, outside of the obviou...

SERVANTS OF WAR Book Review

DISCLAIMER: This review was an awkward one for me to write for many reasons. I wasn’t going to publish this after I wrote it. One of the primary reasons for my hesitation, naturally, that this is a book written by a author I am currently writing a book with (Larry Correia), and my review might be considered unbiased by some. This is a fair presumption, but inaccurate. Anyone who knows the reviewing process I used to perform while running Shiny Book Reviews understands I am pretty tough on every ...

Christmas Ordering

Just a few quick reminders…

USPS runs slow this time of the year. If you want a print copy of A CHRISTMAS SURPRISE to have before Dec 24, you probably should order by this Friday to make certain it’ll arrive in time.In that same vein, remember it might take longer if you’re shipping to Hawaii and/or Alaska. The $0.99 sale for the ebook of A CHRISTMAS SURPRISE will end Dec 20. You have been forewarned.

Got a book to finish. I’ll check back in Friday with more news.

Unnecessary Hate

So I’ve seen a lot of hate directed towards two new television series which have come out the past week — the live action remake of COWBOY BEBOP, and the adaptation of THE WHEEL OF TIME. Having seen both, I have opinions (not that anyone cares… well, one of my most visited posts ever on here was the Aang vs Korra debate, so…).

Let’s start with some of the beef people seem to have. One group of people (let’s call them FANDOM) have decried the Hollywood adaptation of Robert Jordan’s THE WHEEL O...
