Rain and Crime

They say that amateurs built the Ark while professionals built the Titanic.

This rain keeps coming down and I may need one. You can probably guess which one I'd willingly hop aboard.

So I wrote a decent amount yesterday, which is normally not much news. However, for the first time ever I was able to write something in first person point of view (POV). It's part of the Heroes in Hell series, the short story for the book Adventurers in Hell. It's been fun, channeling my inner conquistador while w...

Social Media?

Is social media dead?

You wouldn't think it, judging from the amount of people on Facebook. But a deeper look into the world of Facebook shows just how far from its humble origins it has come – and how it's on its last legs at this moment. How do I know this? When people start to spam you mercilessly on FB and there are viruses running amok, unchecked, then people are going to move on. And Facebook, much like MySpace, is following that route.

In 2008 Facebook caught up to MySpace users in...

Monster Hunter Ballad

Someone decided to write and sing the "Monster Hunter Ballad" for Larry Correia's novels, Monster Hunter International and Monster Hunter Vendetta. The performer is Gray Rinehart, one of Baen Books editors.

Twosday!

[image error]Ah, spring. I knew you were there; my allergies have been going crazy this morning.

Just put up a new review over at SBR, titled Fat White Vampire Blues by Andrew Fox. I mentioned Andrew and his book before, in my Mysticon AAR. He's a very talented writer who knows how to hit those dark scenes while keeping his overall sense of humor.

That's it for today. Nothing else really going on. Must get back to work.

Working To Stay Working

So I'm on a Heinlein kick right now, sue me.

I finished (again) The Moon Is A Harsh Mistress and am now on a Heinlein juvenile, titled Space Cadet. It's one I was unfamiliar with so I started it last night. So far, about what I expected from a book written in 1948, though the mention of cellphones was pretty interesting. I'm still working my way through it though, so time will tell if I'm pleased or not. So far, though, so good.

Also working my way through Stephen Zimmer's The Exodus Gate

"Lawyers in Hell"

"Oui," Marie Antoinette snarled at the swaying shrunken head. "Our dear prophet has lied again!"

"I did not lie," the shrunken head replied. "I did as you asked."

"I asked how to move into a place befitting my status!" Marie shrieked. "And you got us into Unwelfare housing, like common trash!" — Jason Cordova, in "And Injustice for All" from the upcoming "Lawyers in Hell" (Janet Morris, 2011, all rights reserved).

Edit – 1:21pm EST Mar 07: This is for the promotional material for "Lawyers in...

Isn't it pretty? Or disturbing?

A Grand Experiment

I've been thinking a lot about Kindle's new self-publishing program they have set up (okay, not "new" to the world but "new" to me) and how it might help authors. It's a sweet little racket Amazon is pulling , cutting out the publisher for new and established authors to sell their book for as little or as high as the author wants and paying out a nice commission rate. The downside, however, is for those writers who want to see their first book in print.

E-books are nice for anyone who wants...

First Amendment Update

I usually stay out of politics on here (really, who wants to hear me ramble about how screwed up we are but, when compared to the rest of the world, are actually the ideal union?) but a lot of my friends have been up in arms over the recent Westboro Baptist Church and the favorable Supreme Court decision for them.

First off, this church is a scam. It is nothing more than a familial group of lawyers provocatively attempting to get someone or something to assault them. The minute someone does...

Plague, Arriving

The plague has descended upon humanity once more, its earthly visage being two small, innocent children…

Yeah, the kids are sick and home from school again. Just makes the timing all the more difficult because I am alone with the plague.

I'm skeered.

"AND INJUSTICE FOR ALL" is completed and turned in to the editor. Story has been accepted for the Lawyers in Hell anthology officially (yay!) and now I'm outlining my next installment in the series. For Adventurers in Hell, I'm featuring Juan Ponce ...
