Release Day for Larry

It's release day!

No, not for me, but for the uber-cool Larry Correia. His latest release, Hard Magic: Book 1 of the Grimnoir Tales is now available through Amazon. Technically not coming out until next Tuesday, you can get a jump on the rest of the crowd by ordering it today.

My review is up at Amazon, and Walt Boyes reviewed it for Shiny Book Review awhile back. It's a great novel, one I would totally have people book bomb if, you know, more than 20 people visited here a day.

If you have a

F*ck Me, Ray Bradbury? Er…

Working on a deadline. Will post tonight. In the meantime, a few people have undoubtedly wondered what I was talking about yesterday when I mentioned that F*ck Me, Ray Bradbury should win a Hugo. Here it is.

Warning: not safe for work.

Hugos Are Nominated

Yes, loyal minions, I feel your pain. Not only was I not nominated for a Hugo this year (lamentations!), I failed to secure a nod for the John W Campbell Award. However, Larry Correia did, so I'm rooting for him to win it.

Thoughts on the Hugos:

…I really am annoyed that Cryoburn was nominated. Not that it was a horrible book, but because I think it was nominated due to name recognition only. That's not a bad thing, just… annoying. It wasn't a terrific book, just a good one. But I'm under some...

Book cover for Lawyers in Hell

Here is the cover for the upcoming Lawyers in Hell anthology. It is a gorgeous classical painting with a modern feel to it. Sums up the stories inside the book perfectly.

A Million Flaming Cups of Sock Puppets

Ah, internet… how would we have flame wars with pseudonyms and fake autobiographies without you?

Unless you've been living under a rock (me! me!) you've probably heard that Scott Adams (creator of the comic Dilbert, which I never understood) has been blasting people on his forums for criticizing him. Hey, everyone has that right. It's their website and they can defend it if they like. That wouldn't be an issue normally (Jim Baen, founder of Baen Books, was famous for DaGin Balling (and...

Update #12

Received Crouching SEAL, Sleeping Dragon back from the editor for final approval. Finished it and sent it back. I'm fairly certain that anybody who reads it will immensely enjoy it. It's a fun story about a reluctant sea dragon versus a team of Navy SEALs getting to know one another better on a fundamental level. And by getting to know one another I mean they try to murder the ever-living crap out of each other.

Good times. Sha'Daa III: Pawns will be out sometime this year.

Still working on...

Writer Laziness

I was reading Larry Correia's most recent post on writing and how there is no such thing as writer's block and I found myself thinking (Yes, button down the hatches and hide the kids)… Is there really no such thing as Santa Claus?

Wait, that's not what I wanted to write.

The truth of the matter is, there is no such thing as writer's block. Yes, really. When I say I'm "blocked", that roughly translates to "I don't wanna work on this right now because I am unmotivated/lazy/really bored with the s...

Delicate Stuff

For those of you wondering, I didn't receive an invitation to the wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton. I'm not terribly shocked, given the damning severity of the now-infamous Cordova/Windsor sushi incident of 2004. Such is life, I suppose. I guess I'll wish them both a happy future and to beware of Parisian tunnels.

…too soon?

Oh, and about the chili thing yesterday? Made some and it came out a bit too salty. Take that how you want to.

I've been writing for average this week, which...

Chili Metaphor

I love when people use cooking analogies to describe writing.

Some talk about how their writing is oftentimes classified as the "veggies" part of the meal: something you know is good for you but usually looks unappealing at first glance. Others talk about how their story is the "meat" to everyone else's potatoes — unless you're a vegan, you're going to find it enjoyable (unless it's overdone, but by then the analogies get strange). Or that their book is like cake: good, but in the end best in ...

Sending You Off

I used up all my stuff yesterday so today I'll send you over to Sarah Hoyt and the "wall". She has some good stuff and you should go through her archives when you get the chance. I do it on occasion.

Yeah, I got nothin'. Have a good day.
