Do Not Want

Record heat. Do not want. Especially since it’s going to get worse, and keep doing that for months.

Blech.

That’s about all I got. I’m working on my story for Love is an Open Road, I’m keeping up my house, I’m dealing with stuff and I’m protesting record heat.

whales!!!

I have a ton of stuff to do today (due to too much slacking off yesterday) so let me get right to the point.

First–Dana Point, California. Between LA and San Diego, absolutely beautiful, and WHALES. Whale-watchers are seeing record numbers of gray whales migrating this spring, and I was lucky enough to go see for myself.

Second–Captain Dave’s Dolphin and Whale Watching Safari. There are other whale-watching tours, but Captain Dave’s is rated best on Yelp and TripAdvisor. But what really made...

What Is an AlphaSmart?

Sad News

Todaywe lost Leonard Nimoy. Lots of people will have wise or clever things to say about it, but I’ll just say it’s a tremendousloss but I’m grateful that we had him as long as we did. Also, blast it, why isn’t the crew of the Enterprise immortal? Someone get on that! And then make it retroactive.

In Not-News

Yesterday I mentioned my AlphaSmarts, and it occurred to me that not everyone would know what I was talking about. And if you’re a writer – you need to know.

This is one of my AlphaS...

Decluttering

Today I rearranged an office and it wasn’t even mine.

I didn’t break into someone else’s and randomly move things, don’t worry. My friend and I went to her school (here in the weird of Tucson, it’s Rodeo Break and schools are closed) and tried to make the tiny office in the eighty-year-old school work better. The desks have to be arranged around some huge windows, severeal doors, the built-in outdated stuff, the pipes sticking out of the floor (honestly, what?) and a square hole in the wall th...

Only as Smart as the Owner

So back in…oh, August, I think it was…I finally came into the 21st century and gave up my little flip phone for a Samsung Galaxy S4. I didn’t want to–I dislike what I call “slab phones.” I liked flip phones. No butt- or purse-dialing, and no pressing buttons with your face as you talk. Also they are not fragile flowers that break when you look at them. I didn’t need any of these so-called “apps” and I didn’t need to check my email in the grocery store. And I wanted these darn kids off my lawn...

I’m Henry the 8th I Am

Stupid earworms. I’ve been singing that off and on for days and I don’t know WHY.

Then today the kid said something and my brain went Lion King! and since I’ve been singing this one.

I had to go find it on YouTube. It’s been stuck in my head and I couldn’t get it out because I could only remember teeny bits! (it started with “everybody look left…” )

Ha. Now you’ve got it too.

You know what else gets stuck in my head? Master of the House, from Les Mis. My absolute least favorite song in the entire...

A Few Thoughts

It occurred to me on the way home from work today–ayear ago I had a boss who spent ten minutes searching her “sent” folderfor an email she never sent to me, lecturing the entire time on how she had to be able to depend on me to take care of things that she delegated to me. When she didn’t find it (because she never sent it!) the lecture was about how she needed me to not make her look bad.

Today I have a boss who, when I tell him that the three offices involved have no idea how a very minor sc...

So, About that Escapist Literature…

Turns out, oftentimes when you really need escapismis when you absolutely don’t have time to read. So one turns (if one is me) to watching Planet Earth while folding clothes, sorting, cleaning, scrubbing…

It’s the best I can do. I don’t have time to read, and I certainly can’t write or edit.

Some people can, or so I hear. Not me. When things are really bad, I can’t be creative. I can’t open that door. There are monsters beyond it, don’t you know. They knock and call me with endearments and prom...

What Am I Up To Lately?

Me? Oh, just unhappily meandering around not writing. WHY? I don’t even know. It’s not as if I had nothing I wanted to effing write!

No, actually, I do know why. Maybe. I think it’s because when I’m writing, that’s all I’m doing. I keep talking about learning to keep a writing/life balance, but I keep not making that balance happen. And there are things that just really gotta be done. Tons of things, actually. MEGAtons. And I’m overwhelmed, and just getting my brain back after being sick, and...

More Research

Yesterday at the Musical Instrument Museum, I was looking at things and going “this is the music that Jhi Bo knows” and “oh, hey, why have I never heard of a slit drum before?”

You’ll be spared the long rant because I don’t have pictures. Well, I do, but my camera is far away and I’m tired.

Today at the Phoenix Zoo it was the same. I wanted to see every animal, how they lived, and how their original environment had shaped them. I’ll spare you the squees about the tiny monkeys and the lions spra...
