I’m Tired

Every year. I make big but reasonable plans to get this year off to a good start. I’ll make healthy breakfast and lunch, I’ll get enough sleep, I’ll plan it all and it will be fine.

Yeah.

Meal-planning is much like novel research. It’s just so easy to wander off and find yourself an hour later looking at adorable Avengers memes and you still haven’t found another meatless option* that you think you’d like to eat that also won’t take too much work or too much buying of groceries, so you go bac...

Tomorrow They Come

Hey, look, it hasn’t been a month since my last post!

Can’t believe it’s really truly back to school already, but yesterday we had a Meet the Teacher event. Tomorrow the students come back.

AAAAAHHHHHH SAVE ME!!

But I’m holding it together. I’m actually doing better than I’ve done in a long time at existing outside of work in the week before school starts. I’m proud of myself.

In other news, I’m working on another Flame edit. I feel like maybe I’ve finally got a grip on where and how to take...

A Month Later…

Whoops.

Look, there are going to be false starts in this back-to-blogging-regularly thing. Approximately *checks notes* twenty-seven of them, if my math is correct.

Some of the stuff on the list of DOOM got done, most didn’t. We did go camping. It was wonderful. The child came home, other teenagers came to live with us, some of them left, now we are at only one (she’s not technically a teenager but “adult” or even “young adult” REALLY don’t fit…)

My summer is gone. Tomorrow my teachers come b...

MnotIA

Yeah, I kind of vanished there. I got annoyed by the hot water heater issue, couldn’t get it solved, got stuck on EVERYTHING because of that one thing, and now here we are, with a book edit due tomorrow and the roomie coming home Tuesday, and everything is half-done or not even begun.

Blargh.

So here’s the plan.

Do the living room stuff.Finish cleaning the front bathroom, the hard part is done.Do the simpler kitchen stuff (minimal rearranging! Roomie hates that anyway.)Complete the closet sor...

Today the Oops

List-tackling today did not go well. As my friend Debbie pointed out, growing a list too much makes it overwhelming. Also, the things I was trying hardest to do today–drain and flush the water heater, and fix the hole in the wall–did not really want to be done.

I hurt my arm trying to make the hot water heater behave. And I drew a straight line then cut a diagonal one, trying to fix the hole in the wall. Screw it, on both items. I’m calling a handy-person.

There’s also–and this is embarassing...

DOOM LIST continued

I could go back and count days, but nobody really cares, do we?

That’s what I thought.

LIST! Which…omg, I gotta start focusing. It looks so bad because I take one thing off one section, and do half of one thing in another section…

But I got this. The list goes ever on and on, down from the pen where it began, and I must follow if I can, pursuing it with eager feet–wait, no, that’s not it.

Oddly, go to Harbor Freight’s parking lot sale and buy a lot of things I don’t actually need but TOOOOOOO...

List of DOOM, Day oops

I was really tired yesterday, okay? Somehow I’d forgotten that you can’t start getting up 1-2 hours earlier without going to bed earlier, if you don’t want to really feel it, anyway.

TBH, today I didn’t get much done either. I did make an AWESOME coconut quinoa curry in the crockpot that I didn’t select for its vegan-ness but hey, it’s vegan. And delicious. And now I’ve got a ton of it and it’s ALL MINE.

[image error]Two 7-cup containers, and half a 4-cup container, and I already ate some…

Slow Is Fine (LoDOOM#4)

Today’s is not a long list of accomplishments, but some jobs just take longer.

[image error]After. I always forget to take before pics!

This is the fence in my back yard. The back wall and the west wall are 6 foot cement block walls, but this one has only a chain link fence between us and our (perfectly nice) neighbors. I didn’t care for that, so I bought the grass fencing and started putting it up with zip ties then gave the rest of the job to teenagers who wanted to earn money. Because I’m a doofus. Sin...

DOOM, List Of, Day 3

Ahh, the $400 cactus…

When we moved into our lovely new house, I did some exploring. In the little grassy alleyway between our yard and the neighbor’s, outside the gate in my backyard that opened into the alley, was a prickly-pear-type cactus. It wasn’t a big cactus! It was just a few square feet of cactus that wasn’t even as tall as my five foot self. I was happy it was there. It blocked view of the gate into my backyard.

Cut to two years later, and a succession of teenagers NOT dealing with...

DOOM of List, Day 2

Right. So. Day 2.

It’s still uncommonly cool for summer here in the Baked Potato Old Pueblo, so I’m trying not to turn the AC on and so save myself some money. That means the second it drops below 77° outside in the evenings (which is happening later and later, sigh) I open all the doors and windows I can. And I don’t button up until it hits 73° (yes, these numbers are somewhat arbitrarily chosen) in the morning.

That means the window above my head is open, and about 0530 the birds start goin...
