Another Round of #3GoodThings

It’s not been a great day. I don’t want to wallow in the negative, though. The more I do that, the worse things seem, and who needs that? So I’m gonna do #3GoodThings.

So. I’m grateful for my house. I love my house. It is not big, but it is big enough. It’s cute. It’s mine. I have a room that is painted a lovely green by my awesome roomie. It has a comfy bed in it, that I bought and enjoy. I have a TV as big as is feasible, and it shows me my nature documentaries and favorite movies in great...

Depth of Flavor

I’ve never been (and probably never will be) a fancy-cooking type person. My favorite TV chefs are Gordon Ramsay and Jamie Oliver, but I only watch Gordon Ramsay to see him swear at stuff and then help fix things. And even Jamie Oliver, who tries to make things easy–I mostly don’t make the food I watch him make. Though I have gotten better with a knife watching him!

Me, I’m the kitchen gadget type. I love my slow cooker, and my Instant Pot. Got an electric grill, too, and of course a toaster...

So, Uhh…New Book!

I know, I know…I show up, I announce I’m back, maybe I post a few more times, and then I vanish for months. You can’t see, but I am hanging my head in shame.

Honest.

I’m not going to promise not to vanish again. I’ve got some plans to get myself in a better headspace so I can be here more, but I’ve made enough promises. we’ll just see how things go.

So, umm…new book! I’m very proud. Especially that I managed to produce it on time (mostly) with how well I’ve been (not) getting things done...

Flame Isfree and the Feather of Fate

[image error] [image error] [image error] [image error]

A Novel of the Spell-Wracked Lands

Bucking thousands of years of tradition, Flame ran away from her elven heritage, her glorious destiny, and her arranged marriage. Now she’s an expert treasure-finder in the human world, one job away from buying out her indenture and setting up a tower somewhere full of pretty things and pretty men.

Just one more job–but her employer doesn’t know exactly what they’re questing for, and also the world has changed since his map was drawn. Flame can handle...

NaNoWriMoNaNoWriMoNaNoWriMo…

Sooooo…I’m doing NaNo.

“But KD! You can’t even blog regularly! You have to do the copy edit on Flame and get ready to publish December 15th! You haven’t even found time to hang the Halloween decorations yet!”

yeah, okay to all that. I’m still doing NaNo. I haven’t written anything on a fun deadline (as opposed to “you’re already late, ZOMG!” ) in ages.

I just wanna write a flippin’ book, y’all. Not even that. I just wanna write. I want to write a story about a boy and another boy and maybe a girl, and I just want...

Dusting is Prey Behavior

It is a sad sad fact, that the more stuff one has, the harder it is to rearrange the furniture. Stuff collects, you see. Magically. It just appears. Out of nowhere. And then it sits there, in the way of moving things around.

Related: if persons are going to rearrange the furniture, they should do it BEFORE a number of things are stored in the middle of the room in which they wish to move the things.

These hypothetical persons might also wish to measure the room and the furniture to figure out...

Still Editing

As I’ve observed many times, editing never ends. At some point they drag the manuscript out of your limp, exhausted hands, and you weep with relief but also that you were going to fix that one…last…THING…

I am, as has become my habit and I hate it, past deadline. Naturally this is tempting me to just crawl into bed and watch Season 4 of Queer Eye one more time. (Oh my GAWD, I bawled through the episode at Jonathan’s high school! And the single dad after his wife passed. And…oh geez. Just wond...

I’m That Geek

Well, yeah, I did spend last night (a Friday night, for those keeping track) planning out my next year of budgeting.

I’ve been using YNAB for a couple years now. I think we’re heading at…year three? Maybe. Anywhoo. I got YNAB because I wanted to get my sh!t together and buy a house, and then I was able to buy a house way faster than I expected to be able to buy a house, but it threw everything else off and getting my sh!t together didn’t happen as quickly as I’d hoped.

I think, now, I might f...

It’s Almost Ten

It’s almost bedtime, and I categorically deny having spent at least an hour tonight on YouTube videos, trying to figure out what forest animal gets rescued in this scene I’m editing.

I also didn’t spend an hour making ramen that honestly wasn’t much better than what you get in the ten-cent packages. (It also wasn’t worse! And it had veggies in it! So maybe it was better.) (But when a recipe says “use four cups broth and three cups water” you should probably question that.)

It’s August, and I...

Someone Touched My Copier

I’ve worked in schools for seventeen years. I’ve worked with a lot of copiers in that time.

The one we have at work right now? Is the worst.

It won’t change drawers if it runs out of paper! It has four drawers, and if it “auto-selects” drawer three for a document and drawer three runs out of paper, even if all the drawers are full it won’t just go ahead and use one of the other drawers! Not only that, but you can’t tell it to switch drawers. You can only cancel the job, or load the drawer.

An...
