Editing, the Part That Goes On and On and

I’m editing. Still. Again. That’s a lot of my life right now. Most of this manuscript was written in word-sprints when I was furloughed last spring, so it’s very much a mess. Eventually that mess caught up to me. I was unable to write the ending because I didn’t actually KNOW the rest of the story. I wrote what seemed like a good idea at the time, and if a better idea came to me, I wrote that too–or I just made a note to write it later, and went on like I had written it. And sometimes I went bac...

MOAR GARDENING (KD Ventures Outside)

I’m gearing up, friends. It’s March. It’s raining. Right now, it’s raining! It hasn’t done that since…well, we’ve probably gotten a few drops here and there in the last three months, but I don’t think we’ve had real rain. And I’m trying to tell myself that the government sending me $1400 is not a good reason to order 7 raised bed kits.

Do I even know where I would PUT seven raised beds? No! So I’m trying to keep it reasonable.

Trying. Because I know that I need to. I know me. Around about ...

In My Backyard(ish)

Last weekend (well, it was “last weekend” when I wrote this, but anyway,) I was so lucky to go and enjoy a cabin in a state park. I wrote about it for TDP here, with lots of pictures of birds and stuff.

I’m pleased to report that wildlife seems to have decided I am therefore one of them.

This pretty was hanging out in front of my house on Monday.

He had a look inside our palm tree, checking for tasty morsels.

Then he went back to the power pole for a bit, before flying off.

It’s Been a Tired Week

I was/am trying to post at least once a week. That should be do-able, I figured. What I didn’t count on was an entire week of day after day just being so tired that mostly all I thought about was how much I wanted to be in bed.

This week, I fell asleep at my desk. My work desk, in the lobby, where the front door opens and there’s KD, asleep at her computer. That’s…not great.

Probably it’s just a med change. I would assume so, since the change happened Friday and Saturday was the first day ...

On With the Flail!

Last night I finally, for real and for true, started editing the Paranormal mess. I always flail at the beginnings of edits, no matter how hard I try to just get in there. I’ll sort my notes. I’ll search desperately for some dimly remembered mention of some vaguely important fact that I swear I wrote down in a notebook, I think the cover was blue… I’ll poke at the MS like a foolish hiker with a long stick and an unfamiliar creature on the path, trying to suss out the theme. I’ll print it out, do...

How to Fill a Bookcase

This weekend I rearranged my room. Well, I put a bookcase up, and rearranged my bookcases. Though I ran out of time and didn’t really get done.

Anyway. Would you like to know how you anchor a tall bookcase? Like this.

picture of bottom half of a narrow book case, filled with thick hardback and paperback books

You start the Wheel of Time, book fourteen, on the bottom right, and go up from there.

It doesn’t feel like it should make as big a difference as it has. Before, the bed was in that corner. I tried to keep it pushed off the wall a bit, to make it easier to change the s...

Getting My Ship Together

slinks back in, pretending she never left

So, that was a nice-ish weekend! I gathered the family for a meeting on Saturday, and then pulled a “Surprise! Chores!” on them, so some stuff actually got done. it’s amazing what can happen when four people actually work, instead of three of them planning to get to stuff “later” and then…maybe doing it and maybe not, but definitely not coordinated and thus the things that are more of a chain of tasks don’t get done…

Anyway. There’s always so much ...

A Good Provider

You know that thing where you decide your family needs a thing and you will stop at nothing to get it? It’s definitely a strong urge, especially this time of year.

No, I didn’t bite anyone. I can’t believe you would ask that. (I can totally understand your asking that.)

Well, this weekend I decided we needed more Christmas lights. It’s Christmas, dammit, (I use that excuse to rationalize a lot of things, FYI) and it’s been a dreary year, and WE NEED MOAR LIGHTS.

“WalMart has strings for...

Adventures in Space (Heaters)

My beloved grandfather was a Scotsman. According to my (Hungarian) grandmother, that was why he was so stingy–ahem, frugal. He believed that it saved electricity if you only opened the refrigerator while it was running, so who knows how many times they skirted food poisoning because my grandmother left the mayo on the counter until she heard it start?

I don’t do that, but I do have a great resistance to turning the furnace on (and the AC, in summer, ask my poor wilting roommate.) I know waiti...

Monday Already?

Why no, I didn’t forget I had a blog! How could you think that?

*blows dust off posting button*

It sure is a time, isn’t it? I think the second decade of this year was the worst.

I hope you’re well. I’ve been struggling to work on an installment of my Srivasi serial story Curiosity Killed the Cat, but I’ve got it now. And I’ve been trying to work on my paranormal book, which is still great fun even when I’ve forgotten what I’m doing (oops.)

Oh, and blogging tomorrow on TDP, so come b...
