ONE AYA Summit

ONE AYA Summit

Checking in for a trip is always when it becomes real to me.

For months, I’ve been excited to share that I was speaking a the ONE #AYASummit at Google headquarters in Washington, DC.

The AYA Summit will focus on issues facing girls and women in the developing world, with special emphasis on Sub-Saharan Africa. Focus will be given to how each one of us can use the power of our voice to make a difference for families who live there.

I’m speaking on a panel called Tweet to Shot and will be on stage...

FiOS Quantum TV Gives Me Too Many Choices

FiOS Quantum TV

We’ve had Verizon FiOS in our house from the first moment it was made available in our area.

For years I had to sit by and lust over it while working on some of their earliest marketing campaigns during my Advance Guard days.

Recently an ad popped up on my screen advertising their new FiOS Quantum TV service. I probably ignored it the first couple of times, but eventually I clicked through to find out more.

We were always running out of DVR space and the idea of suddenly having 200 hours of spac...

Today is a gift. Tomorrow is not promised.

The shower was extra hot and the muse was screaming.

As soon as I got done I ran downstairs to record this.

No idea how I got so wired on a Monday morning.

Be sure to watch Transform and An Invocation for Beginnings that I mentioned on the show.

Posting Old Photos of My Kids Online

kidsonflickr

As a photographer, I’m constantly taking photos.

As a dad, my kids have grown up with a camera pointed at them their entire lives.

We lived in Virginia when my son was born and sharing photos with our family and friends was not as easy as it is today. I still remember the first time I heard of Flickr and instantly signed up for an account.

Since then, it has been the place I publish almost all of my photos and certainly the number one place photos of the kids end up.

As a parent you need to be pr...

My Inbound 14 Bold Talk – Why I Hate the Question of “What Do You Do?”

Yesterday, I gave a Bold Talk at #Inbound14 and while it was recorded and will hit the web at some point,I thought you might like to read the speech as I wrote it out.

I rarely script any of my talks, but for this one I really wanted to nail it. I went off script quite a bit so for those who were there. I hope you enjoy.

Thank you to Laurie Davis Edwards for the photo.

What is a Samsung Imagelogger?

Emily-Imagelogger

Today, Samsung announced their newNX1 smart cameraand as I sit here lusting over having one in my hands, I figured this would be a good time to explain what it means to me to be a Samsung Imagelogger photographer.

To sum it up in my own unofficial words, the Samsung Imagelogger program brings together a group of diverse photographers from around the United States to use Samsung cameras in their day-to-day photo taking and sharing those photos with the world through their personal social media...

We Need More Vulnerability and Honesty

DarkSamsungSelfie

I watched avideo from Tara Hunt this morning and instantly had to turn on the microphone and record Episode 138 of Managing the Gray.

I’ve been thinking a lot about how we all put on a layer of social media makeup before we post anything online and it is messing up the minds and culture of the world.

Transparency is all the rage these days when it comes to advice for businesses online, but how about just being honest and not being afraid to be vulnerable?

Listen to my thoughts and then let me kn...

Itchy Bitchy End of Summer

MudShow

Once I turned forty, I knew things would change.

That is when the clock spins, the body freaks out and things begin to creak, strain and all around break down.

For me it seems it is also when my body would finally decide it had spent enough time fighting poison ivy and wanted to let me experience the itchy hell that it is.

I’ve walked through patches of it, hiked over it and all around been exposed to poison ivy more times than I can count throughout my life and yet besides a few random spots ov...
