Rucking My Way to a Healthier Life
Last month when I was in Jacksonville working with the team at GORUCK, I got to talk to them about a variety of topics.
We talked about the future of their business, the new gear they had coming out (including their long awaited firearms cases) and life in general outside of the office.
Jason and I chatted a lot about rucking and why it was a good exercise. Since running will never be a part of my life with the crap knees I’ve got, the idea appealed to me.
Rucking = Distance + Weight + Time
Three...

When a Son No Longer Rides The Bus to School
This morning the kids began their school year. Who knows what eighth and tenth grade holds for them, but I’m sure it’ll be the usual mix of ups and downs.
Every year this day makes me reflective as a father, but today even more so as I watched Dylan not get on the bus, but rather catch a ride to school with his friend that lives across the street.
It brought me back to when Dylan Wood use to take me to school.
I can’t remember how Dylan and I first became friends, but he was definitely one of th...

September Looks Busy
Yesterday morning, our flight home from Arizona arrived at Boston Logan at 6 am.
It was a quick flight for me since I had the latest season of Homeland to pass the time and a nice quiet plane.
I’ve never taken three weeks of vacation in my life and it is a bit sad that it took this long to do it. Wow, did it feel good.
Of course now comes the fun part of catching up and pushing forward. In addition to school starting next week for the kids, I’ve got several things on my plate that will make Sept...

Helping a Friend in Need
I’m on vacation with the family. We are at the in-laws in Arizona and enjoying mostly every minute together.
When I finally decide to check in to see what is going on with everyone I discover that my dear friend Justin Levy is in the hospital. Long story short, he is having brain surgery in the coming days and has a possible long road ahead of him.
Justin and I have known each other for a while now and he is always there whenever I need a sounding board, have a crazy business idea or just to ha...

What Technology to Bring on a Family Road Trip
This weekend we are heading out on a three week adventure. The Chapman Road Trip will find us in an RV, going from Boston to Arizona.
Along the way we are keeping a very open schedule with our only major stop being to see an exhibit of Laura’s Great Great Grandfather’s paintings in Memphis.
Above is a photo of our current packing list, but with two teenagers along for the ride and me being a gadget lover, I thought it might be fun to share the technology that we’ll be bringing along to keep us...

One Night Escape to Vermont
Echo Valley is a quiet spot in Vermont that our family likes to escape to. We don’t get to go there as often as we’d like, so even a single overnight is special to us.
The car was packed, the dogs were ready to go and at the other end of our drive we’d find my parents and our children.
There was a water bottle full of rye and a cooler keeping steak tips cold.
I’d end up leaving my camera out over night and woke to find it soaked with a heavy morning dew. Thankfully, it kept on shooting and it ga...

Escaping to Echo Valley
Over coffee yesterday at Flour Bakery and Cafe, I was discussing camping with Mitch Joel.
Mitch is a dear friend, but spending time in the great outdoors is not his idea of a great time.
For me, I’m excited as I pack up my kit bag and get ready for a night in Echo Valley.
One night isn’t a long time to get away from it all, but it is better than none.
The kids have been with my parents for a week and they are meeting us there.
Tonight there will be red meat cooked over an open fire and bourbon und...
