A Tale of Two Rocks

One of my co-workers told me a sweet romantic tale of two rocks yesterday and I had to share it.

Her brother has a garden of rocks and he said when friends and family come to visit, they get to select a rock to represent him or herself, so select a rock. So she called her husband and he didn't want to leave the house to pick out a rock for himself, so she did, and set them apart just where she wanted in her brother's rock garden.

"Don't you want to put them closer?" her brother asked.

"I'm not a clinging vine," she said.

So he left the rocks where they were, and there they sat adrift from each other for eons.

Then her brother called her yesterday with a new development. Torrential rains had eroded his rock bed and in the upset, she and her husband's rock had moved together and were now snuggling against each other.

The moral of the story is: If you can weather the storms, you'll be just that much closer in the end.

What do you think?

I say: Rock on!

Oh, and Heart of the Highland Wolf ranked below 100 yesterday in sales!! Woohoo! So did The Dark Fae!!

Have a super Thursday!!!

New Bug Catcher!

Everyone should go green. Yep. No more pesticides needed here. Just ye ol' feathered friends.

He's not mine, but my next door neighbor's. They've scared me a time or two coming out of my shrubs when I didn't know they were there. But I had fun catching him on my camera happily eating away at the bugs that flock around my security light at night. :)

Just don't let my wolves know he's about! He was trucking it out of my yard and so he was a little blurry...but he was welcome to eat his fill of all the bugs in my yard. :)

Hope you all have a wonderful Wednesday!

From camping in the Palo Duro Canyon with rattlesnakes and scorpions and wild mustangs, riding the trail on a cantankerous trail horse, line dancing, and watching a friend devour a 72-oz steak, Lisa's having the fun of her life...mostly.

But can she learn to be a Texan? Inspired by several true incidents, the story revolves around a woman who's never settled down for long and a man who wants her to love his home as much as he does...fearing she's bound to leave him sooner or later as she has never been able to set down roots.

***
The story about the wild mustangs was true, only I'd heard them when I was camping in the canyon with Army ROTC cadets, and I've been to all the places described in the story. The only thing that I still need is that tall hunky Texan!

Wouldn't you like a shot at him too???

:)

Have a terrific Tuesday!!!

Renn Faire, Part II

I was wearing something entirely different when I arrived at my daughter's apartment. But she said I didn't look Renaissance enough. Well, I didn't want to tell her this wasn't a Renaissance look either, but even so, I did look more authentic as something that would fit into the wild looking costumed people who were there. :) So it worked. And it was fun.

The velvet vest she was wearing, we picked up some years ago at a Highland shop, but it's perfect for pirating and all kinds of worthwhile causes.

In any event, we had a ball!

Next weekend, it's all writing--and that will be fun too!

Have a super Monday!!!

Any plans for Memorial Day weekend?

The Renn Faire

We had fun watching the knife throwing show, the whip shows, listening to the various musicians playing on different kinds of medieval instruments, the harp, and even glassware.

The gyros were great and we had ice cream to cool ourselves down.

I found this guy hugging the women, but of course I wanted a picture of him all on his own. He was making a growly face. About the time I was trying to take the darn picture, my camera wouldn't do anything. Apparently when I put it in my bag, the setting had changed to video mode.

Anyway, my daughter said he bent over to hug someone and had nothing on underneath that skimpy leather flap. So dream away...

Now I'm back to working on Dreaming of the Wolf edits! Have a lovely rest of the weekend!!!

And Dark Fae actually went to #21 in the UK!! Woohoo!

1st Review of Heart of the Highland Wolf!

I'm off to be a pirate today--no wooden leg or patch over the eye, but I'm going to have fun. :) But I just wanted to share my first review with everyone before I run off to the Renn Faire!
Have a super Saturday!

Heart of the Highland Wolf by Terry Spear
Publisher: Sourcebooks
Genre: Contemporary, Paranormal
Length: Full Length (383 pgs)
Heat Level: spicy
Rating: 5 Books
Reviewed by Xeranthemum
It's a matter of pride…

Modern day werewolf laird Ian MacNeill reluctantly allows a film production company to use his castle, but he knows his secretive clan has a big problem when a beautiful red werewolf female who insists she's working on the film keeps showing up in the wrong places… and a matter of pleasure…

Julia Wildthorn is not who she says she is—she's sneaking into Argent Castle to steal an ancient relic for her grandfather and to do research for her next werewolf romance novel. When she catches a glimpse of Ian, she realizes he's the perfect hero…

What if a Highland warrior of old could fight with swords just like they used to but in modern times and women could ogle all they wanted?

Of course, I'm getting ahead of myself. Those kilted action heroes do their thing in this story and it was exciting and full of daring do, and I got a kick out of how Ms. Spear wrote it with such passion and intensity. It's what lead up to those well written and high powered few chapters that made it all worthwhile.

Julia is the heroine and she's delightful. In fact I had a ton of fun reading her point of view, mostly because she's a romance writer. What made it so fun? Ms. Spear had the heroine experiencing a scene, a place or dialogue and she'd zone out into writer land and start plotting in her head. I never knew when she'd do it or where she'd take it but it never failed to get me to smile or chuckle. Julia is unusual for a wolf and she has a few secrets. I adored that fact that the author had the heroine, when the time was right; communicating when things needed to be said to the person it needed to be said to. The author refused to fall into that old tired out ploy and rut of angst filled suspicions and mistrust. Sure some was there, it had to be but it was in a natural amount that I could accept and believe in. It wasn't the sole focus of the story or the conflict and I really appreciated that. I like Julia's sense of adventure, her stubbornness and her enthusiasm for all things Ian.

Ian is the hero and, wow, did Ms. Spear create a man to drool over. He shoulders a lot of responsibility yet is fair and hard working. He also was like a laser, zeroed in on Julia and his pursuit was delicious and quite swoon inspiring. When she wasn't' driving him nuts, that is. Ms. Spear did a wonderful job of describing Ian in all his emotional states, from anger to lust, from wariness to ardent alpha – there was nothing about Ian that I didn't enjoy. And when growl came to bite, Ian was everything a woman needs in a man and more. Plus, a reader gets to enjoy some rollicking good descriptions of Highlanders and their kilted plaids. That pulled giggles from me as well as a few wishful sighs.

What I didn't expect was the helpful cold in the tunnel. That was a really cool addition. Not to mention the fact that Ian and clan have been around for a long time and that presented some rather fascinating discussions and dialogue for readers to enjoy and ponder. And I have to wonder about his cousin. Can someone like Flynn ever have a happily ever after? Only readers will know why that is such a challenge. But if a man is judged by his actions it makes me wonder if Ms. Spear might have something up her sleeve for his character sometime in the future. Sure, Ian's brothers all rocked and were developed enough to get me curious about how'd they'd fair in future books. Ms. Spear seems to be good at hooking future readers with the personalities and quirks of her characters and I couldn't be happier.

The secondary characters sure helped give the environment solid ground for the hero and heroine to work with. Maria is Julia's best friend and she's a hot ticket. I wonder who is going to ruffle her fur in the future. I like Ian's other family members although I really wished I could have met Julia's. I was sort of hoping that her family would have actually met Ian's at some point but I guess it wasn't relevant to the story line. Everyone who showed up had a role to play in the tale and the writing was awesome.

Heart of the Highland Wolf embraces the best of what romance has to offer with characters that jump off the pages and into a reader's heart. The writing is crisp, fast paced with dialogue that brings to life the personalities and quirks of its main players. There is humor, drama and a bit of a mystery to spice up the reading experience. When Ian and Julia finally consummate their relationship it's spirited, enthusiastic and though very spicy, also incredibly romantic, just what a reader expects from the talented Ms. Spear.

I absolutely recommend Heart of the Highland Wolf to new and old fans of Ms. Spear. The author has once again delivered a high powered romance that satisfies on every level. It entertained me and made the hours fly. I can't think of a better way to spend my time; except maybe to find my own personal Ian.

Dreaming of the Wolf!

Last night I received Dreaming of the Wolf edits! Woohoo!!!

It's always so neat to get to the end of edits and know that the book is coming soon. So after I finish those, we're about ready for the December release!

And they're working on the cover for The SEAL in Wolf's Clothing!

And Heart of the Highland Wolf is now IN STOCK at Amazon.

Hmm, I wonder how I could make a believable Highlander big cat shifter story...

Okay, can you imagine a Highland clan of wolves battling a Highland clan of lions?

Yes, the Rampant Lion. It could work.

http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_nSdyVIZM_IU/S8lp9Bft02I/AAAAAAAAAeY/WK3VPwM7Jic/s1600/Lion+Rampant+Dec+2009+099.jpg

Except keeping a clan of Highland lions secret would be a little harder to do... And the darn lions want to have a whole pride of lionesses to serve as their concubines. Hmm...

Hope you all have a great Friday!!! TGIF!

Shifters rule!

Are You Counting on Brilliance?

One of the castles in Scotland!

It's not happening today. My teeth all hurt.

But it's not my teeth, really. It's sinus problems. Might have been because I got my mower back last night from the repairman and mowed the yard. Wind was blowing 45 mph, and I had more grass in my eyes than I could manage.

And now I'm suffering. I need to live on a lake, or by an ocean.

Oh, to be able to breathe in the fresh breeze from the ocean. When we visited one of the castles in Scotland, I loved standing on the cliffs with the cold wind in my face. No trees. No shrubs. No allergens.

Wow, see, the medieval Highlanders probably didn't know how good they had it! Sure, it was a hard life, but they probably didn't have sinus problems.

*sigh*

When the sinuses feel this badly, it's hard to be brilliant. Yet, I've got to force on my writing cap and write some more on jaguar. It's at 60,000 words! 30,000 to go!!! 2/3 of the book is written!

And I left them in trouble. So that they don't get into any more trouble than they are already in on their own, I've got to go see what I can do to help them out! Or make it worse.

Hope you have a terrific Thursday!!!

Pyramids...

http://eyeswideblind.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/01/Pyramid-Scheme.bmp

Ah, yes, there are all kinds of marketing scams and pyramid schemes, and several of my friends have been involved in them...

Once I had a NOT so HOT date with another Army ROTC cadet who took me to a free dinner--whoohoo! Sponsored by a pyramid scheme seller. Top dogs were top dogs because they enlisted lots and lots of "soldiers" to sell their products, and become managers by encouraging more wannabe top dogs to sell the products. Course, they had to buy the products too.

Okay, so my half sister was involved in some non approved stuff you drink and eat with everything. Yep. It was supposed to make you healthy, wealthy and wise.

Then my ex wanted to get involved with some pyramid scheme along with a couple of other doctors. No, I said.

Then my brother-in-law has been involved in tons of time-sharing properties.

And one friend was selling Mary-Kay, another Amway, another, not sure, and I get hit up with new ventures all the time.

So when my daughter calls me to tell me we're not going to pirate's day at the fair but to a cooking ware show for new brides or brides-to-be and we'll get free food, and she might get a trip somewhere for free, I was like wait! Stop the horses!

What do we really have here?

Hmmm, if we buy enough pots and pans that are soooo expensive, we could just put a down payment on a house instead, we could get a free trip--well, not a free trip, but a free hotel room. The cost of getting there and meals are on you. Yep.

Have you ever heard--if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is?

So after a very, very long talk, we're back on to rubbing elbows with the scurvy pirates this weekend! We'll get pots and pans and pay for our own excursions some other time--and some other place!

Have you ever been rooked into a pyramid scheme?

They're extremely motivational--but I'm sure there's something totally screwy with me. When I was sitting at this meal with my date, I was looking at all these eager faces, dollar signs in everyone's eyes, and I was thinking, am I the only one who isn't under the vampire's spell?

Must be because I have some wolf blood.

Isn't It Wednesday Yet?

Hmm, maybe I need a weeder helper???

Okay, I have a new regimen. Weed a little each night, and write at least 1,000 words a day on my jaguar manuscript. Well, the 1,000 words a day was something I've been trying to do for a while so that I can make 10,000 by the weekend. But I haven't made it the last two weeks.

So I'm back into my regimen. And the weeding. I tell myself if I do it a little each night, I can get them all up. You know the worst part of that is? I see weeds in my visions at night.

Do you ever do that? Work on something so hard that you envision it when you try to sleep? Luckily, I don't dream of them trying to strangle me, since I'm also doing a lot of Amazon research at the same time. I've done the same thing while fighting bad guys in a Role Playing Game too....had to fight off the bad guys in my sleep. :)

Well, I went to bed last night and couldn't quit thinking about the story. I LOVE when that happens. I had planned to read someone else's book, but I couldn't quit thinking about where jaguar was going. Sometimes as I get closer to the end, that's what happens.

It's really exciting when it finally begins to come together for me. Sometimes this happens early on. Sometimes much later in the book, like this time. I think it was because I was trying to set up a new world, new location, and so the plot and all weren't coming to me until now.

If I could just take off a week from work, I'd have the whole book written. *sigh* I will have to satisfy myself by just writing at night and in the morning before work and on my days off when I'm not out pirating or seeing my daughter graduate.

Memorial Day weekend can't be here soon enough. That's when I can write, write, write. Oh, and I still need to do 8 more guest blogs.

Okay, off to write more on jaguar.

Isn't it Wednesday yet??? (Word count wise, it should be and that's the TERRIFIC news!)
