One Good Thing

Getting a passport renewed is a pain the ass. There. The bitterness is out of the way. I was supposed to get my passport renewed last February, but I got sick...and lazy. I honestly didn't think I'd need it anytime soon, especially in a hurry. Well, I was invited by a sexy friend (we all think our friends are the sexiest, am I right?) to head up to Canada in two weeks. Even expedited, there's not a likelihood it would make it back to me in time. I mean, I could go to Canada without a passport...

12 Songs About Art

These are songs about artists and art in general, some just fleeting mentions, some full out name-dropping:

"Henry Darger" by Natalie Merchant (Interesting artist, with a kind of creepy life)

"I Will Come Back" by Judy Garland (mentions Whistler)

"I Won't Be Your Yoko Ono" by Dar Williams (I guess she told us)

"Imitation of Life" by REM (not really about art, so much as what art represents)

"Mark Rothko Song" by Dar Williams (a favorite Dar song)

"Michelangelo" by Emmylou Harris (One of Emmylou's b...

One Good Thing

Remember when I was telling you about the itty bitty birdies that were making a nest in a flower pot on the front porch? Well, I looked through the foliage today because I haven't seen the momma and daddy lately, and what do you know: Two of the teeniest tiniest eggs you've ever seen are sitting there. So cute! I'm sure a hummingbird's eggs would be much tinier, but these are pretty darned precious. Maybe they'll hatch and we'll be best friends. I'll be like Snow White...only slightly less pu...

One Good Thing

A cookie tote?! Who was the brilliant mastermind who came up with this idea? My brother brings to me a cookie tote from McDonald's filled with chocolate chip cookies. That's right: A whole tote filled with the King of Cookies. Well, I was just flabbergasted. Got out the milk immediately...

You know, when I started doing these "One Good Thing" posts I intended them to be little uplifting notes. Little shoulder nudges to say "Life's okay. Look closer. There's good stuff." But lately, in my posts...

Hot Shot: Happy 4th

Okay, this shot has nothing to do with the holiday, other than the fact that I see fireworks when I look at it. Growl.

One Good Thing

Stepped out the front door this AM and there was a big ol' frog just sitting there. Nearly stepped on it. Could have been a nasty disaster. Luckily the frog hopped off to the safety of the carport. I was afraid when Alex came over she'd make a snack of him. Not that she likes frog much, but when Alex gets excited - and she gets excited a lot - she gets a bit...protective. As if showing me what a good protector she is. She left Mr Frog alone, though, and he hopped away to croak another day.

One Good Thing

Just heard from my friend Nate. He and another of my best buds from college, Maxie, are here in Madison for the Fourth. I'm going to try and head out with them tonight, if they don't get too intoxicated to come get me. Those guys! Haven't seen either of them in a while, and haven't seen Nate in five years. I can't believe it's been that long! The last evening we spent just three of us was the night before Maxie's marriage to Miranda. Memories...
