Random Music Review: Ryan Adams, "Gold"

I became enamored with Ryan Adams when Heartbreaker, his first solo effort outside of Whiskeytown, was released. It quickly became one of my favorite CDs. Sparsely produced, raw, and honest, it's a gem. His follow up record, Gold, while retaining much of that honesty, is much more produced, and that might be to the collection's detriment. The songs are not the quiet gestures and pleas of Heartbreaker either. Sure. There are a few here, but on Gold Adams kicks the Americana rock into full gear. S

I Am So Much Better Than They Are
Anybody see Conan O'Brien last night where Demetri Martin was talking about his new film Taking Woodstock? He talks about how uncomfortable kissing another man was (grow a pair, Demetri! I've kissed a girl before and, sure it did nothing for me, but I don't whine about it), and the other guest Shaquille O'Neal scoots away from him on the couch? Yeah. Gay panic is so funny. I never wanted to step on anyone else's religion and their beliefs -- that's what's great about our country -- until I started seeing it defining policy. ... Like gay marriage, you have a group of people telling other people how to live their lives, and you can't

My Favorite Reads (At the Moment)
My ever changing list of favorite books. These are the books that speak to or enthrall me at this particular point in my life. Ask me five years from now and the list will most likely have changed dramatically.
50. The Malleus Maleficarum by Heinrich Kramer & Jacob Sprenger. Disturbing piece of history that proposed tests by which to discern who was a witch.
49. And Then There Were None by Agatha Christie. Years ago, this list would have been filled with her books. This one has always stuck with m
