Music Review: Nina Simone, "Nina Simone's Finest Hour"

Grab some wine, turn down the lights, and get comfortable. Here comes Nina.
Nina Simone's Finest Hour is more or less a Greatest Hits package, so a conventional review would be silly. Cheating is Fun
Tomorrow's cheat day will consist of:

Trailer: A Single Man
Colin Firth, Juliane Moore, Matthew Goode, based on a novel by Christopher Isherwood, and directed by Tom Ford, this gorgeous looking film about a gay man in 1962 struggling with the death of hislongtime partner is a must see for me. It reminds me of the old Douglas Sirk films and, of course, Todd Haynes' "Far From Heaven". It's already getting raves.

Music Review: Dar Williams, "Promised Land"

I have been a Dar Williams fan ever since I heard "The Christians & The Pagans," a humorous little ditty about a strained holiday family get-together that turns into a heartwarming affair. In her earlier releases, Dar would often incorporate humor to get a point across ("Alleluia" is one of my favs). As she has matured, however, she has left that giddy version of

Elisa Rolle has posted a nice piece about the work of my friend and frequent collaborator, HvH, at her Livejournal. At least one of the pictures is NSFW, but they're all gorgeous!
