One Good Thing
Will power. In the refrigerator there is a delicious brownie from a bakery in Madison. It cried out to me, "Eat me! Enjoy my delicious chocolicity NOW!"
But I did not give in. I said, "No! Do not tempt me so! I will not give in to your chocolaty goodness until my cheat day tomorrow. Get back in the refrigerator, temptress!"
That's right. I's a strong man.
I'm proud of myself.

One Good Thing
Though I strive to be taken seriously as a writer, there are things that I do that would undoubtedly make a publicist (if I had one) or a bigger name author shake his/her head in condescension. I do things that, if I were running for political office, or if I were a celebrity, maybe it wouldn't be too smart to do.
For instance, I have a few friends who run gay erotically-inclined sites. I have no qualms about leaving comments on their posts if I so desire under my real name. This is me. Take i...

One Good Thing
The Emmy nominations were announced today. Now, I'm not a big fan of awards. At least not so much anymore. I think at some point I began to get fed up with the self-congratulatory, self-righteous aspect some of these awards shows take. And the Emmys are pretty near the lowest on my respectable awards meter, right there with the Golden Globes. But it was pretty damn cool to see LOST get so much love in its final season. As well as Best Drama Series, the final ep of the groundbreaking show got ...

12 Songs About Movie Stars
These are songs that mention or refer to specific movie stars. There are tons, so, for the most part, I avoided the obvious and most famous ("Vogue", "Bette Davis Eyes", etc.):
"The Ballad of Michael Valentine" by The Killers (Marlon Brando, Greta Garbo)
"Brownsville Girl" by Bob Dylan (Gregory Peck)
"Girl in the War" by Josh Ritter (Laurel & Hardy)
"Happy Phantom" by Tori Amos (Judy Garland)
"L.A." by Amy MacDonald (the song is supposedly a love letter to Jake Gyllenhaal)

One Good Thing
My friend (and owner of The Lit Wick Candle company) wrote me today to tell me that my book The Rest Is Illusion (available at Amazon, B&N, etc *cough* make me rich) is one of two books chosen for their summer book club, HERE. Now this would already be a huge honor, but then I find out the name of the other book: a little thing called To Kill a Mockingbird, by Harper Lee. Does this then mean that I'm a REAL writer? (I know I'm not the only writer who has that little quandary in his/her head: ...
