Charlie's SHADOWLANDS Trailer

My friend Charlie David (okay, we're not BEST friends, but it makes me feel special that I know an actor whose work I actually own) made this KICK ASS trailer for his upcoming book SHADOWLANDS. I had to blog it! Look how adorable he looks. And those effects are pretty damn cool:

One Good Thing

The one good thing about this oppressive heat: You don't really eat that much. At least, I don't. I drink a lot of liquids, but my food intake goes down when it gets this hot. It might not be the healthiest thing to do, but, let's face it, I haven't been Mr Healthy since I was 27 and had my little fall. Sure, I've tried to keep things looking good, but...let's not get into that. I'll just say it's hot and I'll probably be having a cold bowl of cereal of supper tonight. That's a good thing in ...

Cabaret Life: The Color Purple

A chill-inducing scene from one of my favorite films, THE COLOR PURPLE. "God's Trying to Tell You Something" as sung by Margaret Avery. When I first saw the film my favorite characters were Celie (Whoopi Goldberg) and Sophia (The Oprah). But as years have passed Avery's Shug has become my favorite. Her wounded and strong woman is so moving, and the catalyst for Celie's own vindication. I wish Avery were in more films. I've only seen her recently in an episode of "Bones", and only in a single ...

Hot Shot: Tight White Tank

I feel weird about posting candid shots like this. This guy didn't pose for these and I wonder if he even knows he's all over the webernet. Still, he's a bespectacled marvel.

One Good Thing

Air conditioning. Well, I could die. On days like this, in the old farmhouse in which I live sans AC, I could literally just die. It gets unbearable. So today when I went for a drive with my mother you can imagine my delight at being cooled, if only for a bit. I need to get me some of this conditioned air I hear talk of, but I'm not the wealthiest man in the world so life's necessities come first. For instance, the six season LOST DVD. Anyway, air conditioning is definitely a good thing. And ...

Hot Shot: Sole Survivor

"Washed up on the beach, Ricky thought he was at last saved... until he noticed the salacious eyes of the island's inhabitants..." Whuahahahaha!

One Good Thing

Just ate me a Subway sandwich. Whenever I eat I usually have the TV on. I love to eat to things that don't require a lot of thought. Cooking shows are good. "The Golden Girls." "Warehouse 13." "The Jeffersons." That's my good thing today: food and mindless television. I really didn't get much accomplished, and I feel kinda blah about that. I guess it's just been one of those summers.

My Writing: "Orlando Redux"

Here's part of a project I was supposed to do with an artist. He was to do the visual, I the literary. Anyway, I don't think anything is going to come of it so I thought I'd share a bit of my part of the project with you. This is Part II of Orlando Redux. Part I is a one-act, and Part III is a poem.

Part II

"Well, it's a matter of pollution or evolution, I think," says the professor in his timeworn gray teaching suit. "What some regard as an end, others see as a beginning. There's merit to...

Cabaret Life: Magnolia

One of my favorite musical scenes in any film period, musical or non-musical. "Wise Up" by the great and under appreciated Aimee Mann is used as the centerpiece of the characters and their breakdowns. Brilliantly done.
