Hot Shot: Candid Silver
I don't know who this is or where I got it, but I am so into him... This silver fox could sneak into my hen house any day, and...Never mind.

One Good Thing
I'm reading Kathryn Stockett's book "The Help", and I cannot put it down. It's about a group of African-American maids in Mississippi in the 1960s. And some of the white people are even good! Not a lot, but some. I heard the film version comes out next year. While reading I cast the amazing Viola Davis in my head as Aibileen, the central character. I found out that she was actually cast in that role for the film. Am I good, or am I good? The only other actress I can see in the role aside from...

Cabaret Life: Orlando
This from the end of Sally Potter's masterpiece version of Virginia Woolf's ORLANDO. Born a man, then mysteriously becoming a woman midway through his/her over four centuries of life, Tilda Swinton plays the title character with androgynous grace. Here Jimmy Somerville makes an appearance as an angel singing "Coming". It's quite a profound scene.

One Good Thing
One good thing about this day? One good thing about
this
day? Well, it's almost over. It's not been a good one. But I've learned a few things. Most notably, I am all for getting off "the grid." Some people is just plain mean. I won't go into it any further, but let's just say I feel about two inches high right now.
Still, it is almost over. Yay...right? Things can't get any worse. (My inner Ouiser is telling me, "Of course they can!")
See. I can still joke.

Cabaret Life: Edward II
I'm losing the alphabetical order idea. From now on everything is random. It's more surprising that way. Today's clip is from Derek Jarman's version of Marlowe's "Edward II." It's a beautiful farewell scene in the film, incorporating a modern song number into a historical event before Baz Lurmann did it 10 years later in "Moulin Rouge." Edward is forced to exile his lover Galveston and Annie Lennox comes out of nowhere to sing "Ev'ry Time We Say Goodbye", the absolute best version of that son...

One Good Thing
Men of few words.
Nothing as as simple as big blue sky...
That is never that.

Cabaret Life: The Birdcage
One of my favorite scenes in THE BIRDCAGE is the "I Could Have Danced All Night" scene at the dinner. It just pops up in the film kind of unexpected, and Nathan Lane and Hank Azaria are delightful in it. This is the only clip of it I could find. It starts at the 1:35 mark.
