One Good Thing

Years ago, in my college days at HC, I helped an English professor of mine, Steven Jobe, with the bibliography section of a book he was putting together with another editor. The book, Dearly Beloved Friends (University of Michigan Press), is a collection of Henry James' letters to younger men, many of them artists. The letters themselves are often very homoerotic and teasing, which is not something I would generally associate with James (at least not the teasing part). I've been sporadically ...

One Good Thing

I was listening to The Loft XM today whilst writing and I heard this:

How effing delightful is that?! I didn't even know Tim Curry had a music career besides his films. It turns out he had three records in the 70s. Of course, it's very odd and I can't help but think Frank N Furter when I hear it. But fun! All day long I've been singing "I Do the Roooock!"

Cabaret Life: Unconditional Love

One of the most underrated and consistently hilarious movies I've seen in the past few years is PJ Hogan's "Unconditional Love", with Kathy Bates and Rupert Everett. There's a scene on a turbulent airplane where Julie Andrews, who just happens to be on the flight, gets up and sings "Getting to Know You" to calm the passengers. It's fantastic. I couldn't find that scene, but the song is reprised by Andrews later in the film at a funeral to equal hilarity. The late Lynn Redgrave is riotous here...

One Good Thing

Don't you just love waking up to good reviews? Whether it be for something you wrote or the hot sex you had last night with a grateful bedmate, good reviews in the morning can set you're whole day. Rainbow Reviews gave me a wonderful one for The Rest is Illusion. You must go HERE and read it. And I must thank you to the reviewer, Kassa. I'd give you one of my cheat day brownies if I could...and that's saying a lot!

One Good Thing

Gotta love it when, on a day so hot the sun cries, a rainstorm moves in to cool things off, if just for a little bit. Sure, I'm still sticky, but it's not as bad as it was. Earlier it was so hot that when I looked in the mirror I swear my face was melting right off. Hopefully some nice breezes will kick up and then I'll go sit out on the porch. Get me a glass of lem-on-ade, turn on the porch fan, and say things like "Well, I declare" and "knee high to a grasshopper" and "kiss my grits."

Ah, su...
