Faith For Family

Have you lost hope that your kids or grandkids will get saved? Take heart!

My good friend, Pastor Jim Maxwell, preached a sermon called “The Other Side of the Mountain.” In it, he gave an amazing account of a blessing that comes from the heart of King David. That blessing that was inside David outlived him and went to his kids. Fifty-six years after David made a special covenant with God, the Bible says his son, Solomon, who was now king, had turned from the Lord. Now, this was the man God had given everything to – the holy city of Jerusalem, His chosen people, great wisdom, and the privilege of building the temple. Solomon had turned away, and God was upset!

In 1 Kings 11:12, God tells Solomon, “I ought to kill you and devastate your kingdom, but I will not because of your daddy, David.” That same covenant rang true 27 years later when Solomon’s grandson, Abijah, turned from the Lord, and 315 years after the death of David, when God delivered King Hezekiah and Jerusalem from the Assyrians – all because of a covenant with David.

If you remain in covenant with Him, I believe God will do the same thing for you. Stand in the gap for your children and grandchildren. Give eternal life to 1,000 generations. Love Jesus and keep His commands. David’s faith outlived his life. So will yours!

“Therefore know that the Lord your God, He is God, the faithful God who keeps covenant and mercy for a thousand generations with those who love Him and keep His commandments…” – Deuteronomy 7:9

Which Wolf Do You Feed?

Jesus-driven thinking helps and heals. This is what the Bible has to say on the subject: For to be carnally minded is death, but to be spiritually minded is life and peace. – Romans 8:6

The Cherokee nation knew it, too. Check out this spot-on tribal tale:

An old Cherokee chief was teaching his grandson about life. He told the boy, “A terrible fight is going on inside me. It is a fight between two wolves. One wolf is evil. He is anger, envy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority, and self-doubt."

The old man continued: “The other wolf is good. He is joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion, and faith.” He then told the boy, “This same fight is going on inside you and inside every other person, too.”

The grandson thought about it for a minute, then asked his grandfather, “Which wolf will win?” The wise old chief replied, “The one you feed.”

What wolf have you been feeding? Just know the wolf of evil thoughts will eventually devour you, and likely others as well. Thoughts become actions, and there is always collateral damage.

That’s not you! You can control your thought life and ensure the evil wolf starves to death.
et_pb_blurb"}">Faith For Family

I know that my walk with Jesus is paving the way for my family to come to Him. I am focused on staying on the Lord’s path. I continually renew my covenant with Him, and remain faithful to the things unseen, for they are eternal.

18– Life More Abundantly (+) The Bondage of Sin (-)

But the needy will not be ignored forever; the hopes of the poor will not always be crushed. Psalms 9:18 NLT

Expect Life Abundant

Brownsville is an extreme place, like most border towns. I love places like this because that’s where God can do radical things. One night, He took us across the border to the city of Matamoros and into a tiny church. The people looked suspicious of us until the Holy Spirit began to move through the praise music we were playing. During worship, people cried, shook, and lifted their hands to God in surrender. The sermon went out the window. It was a radical time of brokenness before the Lord. Many were shouting at the top of their lungs, and God began to do His thing.

Finally, the pastor took the microphone and began to tell of people who had been cured of sickness and disease as they praised. Then, as an old woman walked up to the microphone, the crowd became suddenly quiet.

She had gone to this church since she was a child. She lost her eyesight as a teenager due to undiagnosed diabetes. She had been blind for decades. Then, she said the Holy Spirit came upon her in an unusual way. She began to see a vision, then realized it wasn’t a vision at all. She could see!

“You know that I am blind,” she said. Then, with God as my witness, she began pointing to people in the crowd. “If I am blind, how can I see you? And you. And you…” We literally saw blind eyes opened through praise and worship! None of us preached, called down healing, or laid a hand on her. No man can take credit for what God has done. Sometimes a special move of God isn’t taught, it’s caught!

Any time I’ve been tempted to doubt God’s healing power, I think back to that night in Matamoros when a woman was healed of blindness by God.

I wonder how many times the devil tried to stop her from going to church that night. If she had played that card, she would still be blind. Instead, she was in the house of God, expecting that something would happen.

That day, it did. What about you?

Which Wolf Do You Feed?

17– Overcoming Victory

For the Scriptures say that God told Pharaoh, “I have appointed you for the very purpose of displaying my power in you and to spread my fame throughout the earth.” Romans 9:17 NLT

Here, Now

Time is a pretty cool thing. Our heavenly Father lives in eternity where there is no beginning, middle or end. It’s all happening at once. When He made men, He knew eternity would blow our limited minds, so He created this thing called time.

See, God designed time for our protection, so we don’t get overwhelmed. God knew we could only handle life in 24-hour chunks. “. . And that was the morning and the evening of the first day.” Genesis 1:5 See, God even tells us at the end of each day of creation, that He did it in literal 24-hour days, but that’s not the point here.

The point is, for us, time is a reality. For Father God, it’s relative – and that’s a good thing. If you are going after spiritual and relational upgrade, the Bible says “seek and you shall find.” It doesn’t say how long that will take.

For some of us who are easily sidetracked, it can take a long time. But get this: God doesn’t care if it takes a long time for you to find the things you are searching for and the identity He has for you. He didn’t create it to be found all at once. He loves the time you spend with Him in the process of getting to the next level!

Yes, it’s a process, and He made it that way. He gave us time so that everything doesn’t happen at once and freak us out. Time is a safe place for the redemptive work of Jesus where the sins of our present can be buried in the past.

Which Wolf Do You Feed?

Next Level Life

.Steeped in the Word

September 16, 2025 – 09/16/2025

9 – Fruit Bearing (+) Judgment (-)

16 – The Love of God

So it is God who decides to show mercy.

We can neither choose it nor work for it. Romans 9:16 NLT

Next Level Life

This is what’s real: you have the God-given ability to arrest every thought at every stage of development. You can also advance those thoughts to the next level. Just because you are aware of a subject, does not mean you have to entertain thoughts about it into the advanced stages – that’s where trouble becomes manifest.

Remember what Paul wrote to the Corinthians:

“For if we would judge ourselves, we should not be judged.” – 1 Corinthians 11:31

For example, you can be aware of the fact that you don’t have the money to pay your bills without having a mental breakdown. If you entertain that thought and let your mind revolve around it, it will absolutely advance into things more painful. You will panic at the endless “I should have,” “what if,” and “what about” scenarios that will crowd your mind.

I should never have bought that new phone! What if they repossess my car? What about my credit? What if they turn off my electricity? These thoughts will fill your head with strife and your body with tension. It will inevitably show up in some nasty behavior or malicious outburst, and the downward spiral has begun.

First off, when you ask “what if,” the mental picture you are conjuring up is in the future – worry – and doesn’t include Jesus. If He’s the same yesterday, today, and forever, He is there in your future, so “what if” thoughts need to be cast down!

“Commit thy works unto the Lord and thy thoughts shall be established.” Proverbs 16:3

How do you stop before your thoughts become worries, and those worries become actions? Be aware of the thought’s potential and judge it accordingly. At the moment you become aware that a thought wants dominion over your thinking, discern whether it’s from God. If it’s not, verbally commit your thinking to Jesus. Praise and thank Him for the answers yet to come.

Which Wolf Do You Feed?

Bring A Friend to Heaven

.Steeped in the Word

September 15, 2025 – 09/15/2025

9 – Fruit Bearing (+) Judgment (-)

15 – Rest & Overcoming Death

That is why he is the one who mediates a new covenant between God and people, so that all who are called can receive the eternal inheritance God has promised them. For Christ died to set them free from the penalty of the sins they had committed under that first covenant. Hebrews 9:15 NLT

Bring A Friend to Heaven

Paul was the elite of the Jewish people. Good family, top-notch religious education – his pedigree was beyond compare. He left it all to follow the Jewish carpenter whose death he helped call for. He became one of the men he tried to stamp out.

Paul traded earthly comfort and notoriety for Roman beatings, imprisonment, shipwrecks, exiles, hunger, thirst, and stoning – yes, the brother was stoned by an angry mob and lived to tell about it! Did Paul hate his captors? Did he revile the soldiers who whipped him or pray against those hurling rocks and calling for his death?

There is no record that Paul did anything but love and try to bring the Gospel of Jesus to those who spitefully persecuted him. Why? Because that was his destiny. Guess what? That’s your destiny, too!

Your purpose on this earth is not to make a lot of money, have a nice house, go on vacations with your kids, and show up at church on Sundays. Your purpose is to bring people with you into the Kingdom of Heaven. At the end of your life, do you want a big finish, or do you want to go out in a whimper of regret? Paul went out with a bang, and he didn’t go alone!

“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day – and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for his appearing.” 2 Timothy 4:7-8

Paul wasn’t only concerned about his big finish, he was also concerned about yours. You see, it wasn’t all about him, and he knew it. For Paul, just as it was for Jesus, it was about you and me.

Is it just about you, or is it about making an impact for the Kingdom by sharing the Gospel? For me, it’s about impact. I’m determined not to show up in Heaven alone. Join me! Snatch someone from Hell today.

Which Wolf Do You Feed?

Grounded in FaithDeclare!

Jesus died to save my life, so I want Him to live through me. I am intentional about reaching out to share the good news about Jesus so others can know Him, too. I look forward to receiving my crown of righteousness and watching others receive theirs.

Transforming Goodness

.Steeped in the Word

September 14, 2025 – 09/14/2025

9 – Fruit Bearing (+) Judgment (-)

14 – Generational Promises & The Fear of the Lord

Jesus replied, “Have I been with you all this time, Philip, and yet you still don’t know who I am? Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father! So why are you asking me to show him to you? John 14:9 NLT

Transforming Goodness

I think a lot of God’s goodness skips off us the way a meteor deflects off our atmosphere. We go on to the next thing without any kind of dedication to contemplation or meditation. It’s business as usual.

Instead of thinking God thoughts, we worry and swat at anxiety with all our mental muscle. Worry, however, is a trap. Worry is about the future. As God is eternal, He is already in the future, so there’s no need to worry. It just becomes another distraction from the goodness that passes before us throughout our day.

In my experience, the gravity pull of our broken hearts will bring God’s goodness screaming into our day, lighting up our sky and illuminating the darkness we find ourselves in. When that happens, the impact is thunderous and completely alters the geography of our lives.

This is called transformation, and transformation begins with goodness. If we want to move to higher levels of encounter with Jesus, we must learn to recognize God’s goodness, no matter how small or brief, throughout our day.

Be a magnet for good! Look for it. Demonstrate it. Sing of it and pass it along!

“I call to remembrance my song in the night; I meditate within my heart, And my spirit makes diligent search.” Psalm 77:6

Invade My Soul, Lord

.Steeped in the Word

September 13, 2025 – 09/13/2025

9 – Fruit Bearing (+) Judgment (-)

13 – Rebellion

Then he added, “Now go and learn the meaning of this Scripture: ‘I want you to show mercy, not offer sacrifices.’ For I have come to call not those who think they are righteous, but those who know they are sinners.” Matthew 9:13 NLT

Invade My Soul, Lord

The greatest of all commandments was made clear on a bright sunny day some 2,000 years ago. Jesus said to him, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.” This is the first and great commandment. – Matthew 22:37-38

Jesus said it then, and He is saying it now: your No. 1 priority is to love God not just in your physical actions, but in your mental and emotional lives.

After knowing the mess that’s been in my head, it’s hard for me to imagine Jesus would want anything to do with my mind and emotions. However, He does!

He is willing to step into your thoughts and, piece by piece, item by item, remove the clutter and straighten out the disorder. And there is plenty of disorder in your mind, isn’t there? It’s nothing to be ashamed of. In fact, Jesus removes all the shame from your actions, thoughts, and emotions. He’s just awesome that way!

He is faithful in serving you, so you should be faithful in serving Him. When you serve Him with your love for His glory and not your own, He can invade your soul.

Do you want it? Do you want Jesus to invade your soul, change your thinking, and shower you with the love of God? He will if you let Him.

For “who has known the mind of the Lord that he may instruct Him?” But we have the mind of Christ. For “who has known the mind of the Lord that he may instruct Him?” But we have the mind of Christ. 1 Corinthians 2:16

Which Wolf Do You Feed?

He is the Captain

.Steeped in the Word

September 12, 2025 – 09/12/2025

9 – Fruit Bearing (+) Judgment (-)

12 – Perfect Government

When Jesus heard this, he said, “Healthy people don’t need a doctor—sick people do.” Matthew 9:12 NLT

He is the Captain

It’s the nature of the unredeemed mind to always be looking back. Jesus mentioned this when He spoke of Lot’s wife; even He didn’t mention her name, not a good sign. I don’t want to be like her. I want to look forward. I want to go further and dream big dreams.

The Pharisees were the dream killers of Jesus’ day. Jesus called them out on it when He told them they loved their rules more than they loved God.

“Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You are like whitewashed tombs, which look beautiful on the outside but on the inside are full of the bones of the dead and everything unclean. In the same way, on the outside you appear to people as righteous, but on the inside you are full of hypocrisy and wickedness.” Matthew 23:27-28

Ouch! So if you see somebody today doing everything within their power to put you in a religious box, know they are the very same kind of person who nailed Jesus to a board and hung Him up naked to die. For your sake, run from these people. For our sake, run them over!

While I believe without apology the church of Jesus Christ is the only boat afloat, I also believe many of us on board don’t understand the heart of the Captain. He, like His Kingdom, is progressive. His Kingdom is without end. There are no limitations.

As long as people make methods and the function of church programs their priority, they are missing the boat. They are missing a relationship with a loving, powerful, and just heavenly Father, and the chance to love others into the Kingdom.

Be a person who doesn’t look back. Let Jesus propel you forward into a life of adventure and responsibility. Let Him weave your dreams with His dreams for you, together into a life that changes the world and brings lost people into eternity.

Which Wolf Do You Feed?

Rising Up Out of the Mess

.Steeped in the Word

September 11, 2025 – 09/11/2025

9 – Fruit Bearing (+) Judgment (-)

11 – Heroes Rising (+) Disorder (-)

But before they were born, before they had done anything good or bad, she received a message from God. This message shows that God chooses people according to his own purposes. Romans 9:11 NLT

Rising Up Out of the Mess

When my kids were taking their first steps and they fell after only a few inches, I didn’t scold them and tell them not to fall down again. No. I clapped and cheered, celebrated and shouted, “Check that out. He took a step. He’s moving forward! Isn’t that amazing!”

The point is not that they fell when they were trying to walk, but that they were actually doing it. When good daddies (and mommies) celebrate these baby steps, their kids not only learn to walk and run, but to fly. You learned to move forward because you hadn’t learned to fear failure. Picture your daddy giving you an ice cream cone. When he does, he is not telling you not to make a mess. He already knows there is going to be a mess, and he is confident that he can handle the cleanup. Isn’t that great to know?

If you fear your mess will bring disapproval, you’ll never take that first bite even though he purchased it and handed it to you. This is where a lot of people are today, afraid to go after upgrade and chase the heart of God for fear of disappointing Him. Is that you? If it is, remember the old hymn: “Come just as you are…”

You can control your thought life and ensure the evil wolf starves to death.
et_pb_blurb"}">God Alone is Good

God hates it when we call evil “good.” When goodness is not celebrated and vanity is worshipped, drought and judgment are the result.

Grounded in FaithDeclare!

I am leaving mistakes and disappointments behind. I prepare for a new day; I bring everything to the feet of Jesus. My heart is full of repentance, and I am submitted to Him. I am covered by the blood of Jesus, am washed clean, and stand ready to be a vessel of the goodness of God to pour out into the world around me.
