That Special Day
My youngest has a birthday today and I’m heading to her neck of the woods to take her out to dinner (haven’t missed one of her birthdays yet and not about to start now).
I’ve got:
Her presents…
Cupcake mix so I can make something for her to mark the day with (after I’ve left) her roommate and other assorted friends…
Card and wrapping paper…
Cards that have arrived in the mail here in advance of her birthday…
And all the excitement that comes with getting to see her.

Reading/Watching
What I’m reading: Shopaholic Takes Manhattan by Sophie Kinsella.
What I watched: Last week, I saw American Assassin in the theater (based on the late Vince Flynn’s Mitch Rapp series). I really enjoyed the movie.
Up next: I think I’ll hit pause on the Shopaholic series to read Harlan Coben’s latest release, Don’t Let Go.
Up next at the movies: Stronger. I will see this before the week is over (been waiting for months).
Your turn. What are you reading? What’s next? Have you seen/or are y...

Three Things
The past few days were “Family Weekend” at DD # 2’s college so it was pretty much non-stop activity around here. As a result, I pretty much collapsed in bed when we got back Saturday and took a nap on Sunday when it was all over.
Friday night had us participating in one of those Escape Room things. We had a certain amount of time to try and figure out how to diffuse a “bomb.” The clues were crazy hard to figure out, but if you did, they led to a 4-digit number that would save the room. You go...

Movie Bits
This week, I thought it might be fun to do some movie-related bits.

The Next Chapter
Last week we talked about names and how I come up with them for my various characters. You all gave some good suggestions for me to chew on for the Amish women’s fiction #2 synopsis I officially sent off (hurrah!) yesterday.
Today, I thought we’d talk about plots for subsequent books in a series. For me, I’ve always found myself looking at the various characters in a particular series and try to look at where they are in life as each new book opens. Are they fresh off a break-up, mourning a l...

Comfort Food
The other day, I was missing the kids, and had a strange craving for chocolate chip cookies (homemade–hot from the oven). Since I didn’t have what I needed to make them, I settled for some store bought ones that were in the cabinet.
But it got me thinking about comfort food. To me, a warm chocolate chip cookie is comfort food. Sometimes hot chocolate with whipped cream is, as well. At least for me, anyway.
What’s your go-to comfort food?

First in a Series
So today, at the gym, I finished up Confessions of a Shopaholic (Sophie Kinsella). It’s apparently the first in a series, with this particular title actually made into a movie a few years ago. I enjoyed it enough that I think I’ll be moving on to the second in the series tomorrow.
What are you reading this week?

Apple Bits
We’re approaching apple picking time and that immediately makes me think of trips to the orchard as a kid. Back then, you were allowed to climb the trees and my brother and I were quite the monkeys. There’s a picture somewhere of him actually hanging upside down from a branch. I, of course, had no interest in eating them. They were a fruit, and I didn’t eat fruit (much to my mother’s chagrin).
So, in keeping with the time of year, our bits shall reflect apples.
Red or green? Apple pie or app...September 13, 2017
Hunting For the Perfect Name
Today is a busy (and exciting) day for me. I’m heading into the city to have lunch with the editor and the publicist for my Amish-based women’s fiction book. With this being a new genre for me, there is lots to talk about in preparation for the June release.
Before that, I’m going to spend some time with my notebook and my computer deciding on character names for the 2nd women’s fiction novel I’ll be working on next (at least it’s synopsis, anyway). Since my books are based in Lancaster, I...
