Ten Books
Every now and then, I ask myself, "Self, what's the current fad/meme running rampant through the writing community like a bad case of con-crud?"
I ask myself these questions so that I won't dwell too long on why I'm still single.
But anyway, something I've been seeing is a list of ten books that had the most influence on the person as a writer. You don't necessarily have to like the book, you can even despise it with a passion as dark and rich as chocolate mousse. (Ye gods, I could go for some...

Free Fiction Friday: Let The River Run - Part 12
Welcome back to Free Fiction Friday!
It's been a long road, with a fair share of delays here and there, but we've finally reached the conclusion of "Let The River Run".
I'll be taking a week or so off to work on the next run of edits for House of Stone, put in some time on the new James project, and try to wrap my brain around the next FFF story. More than likely I'll do a trivia contest for the FFF stories thus far with the winner getting to choose from an array of prizes. :)
As always, please...

The Laminated List...
Those who followed me on my personal blog before I closed it down are very well aware of just how liquid my Laminated List is. :)
For those of you completely unaware, the Laminated List was inspired by an episode of Friends where people devise a list of 5 celebrities that, should the offer ever arise, they are allowed to have sex with without any repercussions or retribution.
As always, this list is dedicated to

Free Fiction Friday: "Let The River Run" - Part 11
Welcome back to Free Fiction Friday!
We're just about at the end of this story, I should finish it up next week. I also finished up the first official round of edits on House of Stone today, so I'll probably be working on the new James story as well as the conclusion to "Let the River Run" next week. Afterward, I'm thinking maybe a contest or something with trivia related to the FFF stories thus far. The winner will get a decent prize, I hope, either one of my e-books, or a beta slot, or maybe...

Various Updates
House of Stone: Edits are going well. I'm sure there's a bunch of stuff that I missed this go-around, but hopefully the second run-through will nail it all down. I received a draft of the cover, but I don't want to post anything until I get the okay. After all, this probably isn't the final cover.
"Let the River Run": I'm confident that this week will be a 12:01 posting for Free Fiction Friday. After this week, there should only be one more chapter. Once the story is finished, I'll be taking ...

It's pretty much the only Irish icon I have...
Oh yeah, it's that day where you wear green and get drunk... Well, I'm sober, and all my green clothes are in the wash. I slept with an Irish guy once, does that count?

Parents Just Don't Understand...
Being a writer is a long hard road, full of trials and tribulations and all that other stuff, but one of the most difficult obstacles is simply being taken seriously by the people around us. It's tough not to be seen as a leech, a layabout, "lazy", and a plethora of other negative descriptors that start with "L" from most of society, but largely, it usually comes from our families.
This isn't to all those writers out there who hit the lotto and have loving supportive parents, siblings, and sp...

Reader Mail!
Got another e-mail today that echoes a couple that I've received over the last couple months.
"Vaughn,
Why is FFF delayed so much? You're always taking a week off! I.D. and Mythicfox have been posting every week since they started!"
I can answer this simply: I.D. and Mythic, my fellow Free Fictioneers, do FFF the intelligent way. I.D. has a few finished stories to share that have been ready to go for some time. Mythic has had his own story written for almost a year. So both of them have either ...

Today I Was Bad
I'm not always happy sunshine, a lot of you are aware of this.
I'm pretty aware of cues, though. When a person says, "Something happened today, but I don't really want to talk about it", it means, 95% of the time, "Ask me what happened so I can tell you all about it."
When a person says "I don't really want to talk about it, everyone I have told about it has just gone off on me about it", it means, 99% of the time, "I'm going to tell you about it in excruciating detail, and you had damned wel...

Last night, before I went to sleep, I thought about what I wrote that day.
This morning, when I woke up, I thought about what I would write today.
I couldn't tell you the last time I felt that, the last time I wrote with a smile always on my face, seeing scenes perfectly in my head, the plot twists hopping about me like excited puppies.
So again, apologies to the Fred fans, but I'm pretty well convinced that I made the right decision shelving Wayward Son for now, because the new James story h...
