Resting Paranormal-Scope

So I’m ill and the weather gets frightfully cold. All I could do was stay indoors and stay as warm as possible. I had reached a point where I wasn’t getting better, so I went to the doctor. Of course, I came home with antibiotics and other meds. Oh, and there was the order to rest.

I am not qualified to read either stars or planets. I am intimately linked to the paranormal in the world in many ways. So are you.

The paranormal-scope is for entertainment and is not meant to guide your life.

Aries:
Gremlins are baking holiday cookies. Keep a low profile. You might want to volunteer to bring the cookies to the party instead.

Taurus:
Mermaids are slumbering in the deep. The winds on the seas are horrifying. It’s best to cuddle with those who love when dark things happen.

Gemini:
Faeries are frosting their trees so they look pretty in the moonlight. If you haven’t decorated yet, start now.

Cancer:
Werewolves are taking inventory of their blankets and emergency supplies. Some storms will be tough to weather.

Leo:
Vampires are attending on the concerts. They just love music and it reminds them of the old times that were actually good. Bring more music into your life.

Virgo:
Shapeshifters are making lists and checking them twice so they are sure not to forget anyone. What a great idea.

Libra
Goblins are checking their budget so they won’t spend over. Also another great idea.

Scorpio:
Unicorns are dancing. Go to a dance. Lacking that get some new music and dance to it. It a fun way to enjoy the season.

Sagittarius:
Sirens are taking shelter deep in the ocean’s caves. The seas are tossed, and they need to be safe with their sisters. Check your emergency supplies to make sure you can survive well.

Capricorn:
Sprites want to run full speed as soon as the snow falls. It’s magical like a dream where you are becoming more than you’ve ever been. Go with that thought.

Aquarius:
Pixies are reviewing their piles of books and their mini reading lights. They have their tins of hot cocoa and chocolate candies ready. They will be spending their Christmas Eve like those in Iceland; readying books and eating chocolate!

Pisces:
Elves have made their last journal entries. They have included photos of the younger elves decorating. It is tradition to pass all this down. If you don’t have a tradition, make one up! It’s fun!

My last Life Tools talked about creating cozy. This book is perfect for a cozy night reading, sipping your favorite beverage, and sitting in a great chair wrapped in a soft blanket. Although many books have been written about dragons, this book shows the unique side to those still hiding in our world.

Who solemnly keeps his word? A dragon

They is so much more to learn about dragons. Take it from one who dreams of dragons every night. That’s why I wrote the book. It has been the hardest book to write as it needs extensive research and an adventurous heart to write it.

Snow or Rain Paranormal-Scope

First came the snow then the rain. Then came the flu. I woke a little while ago from sleeping the day away with a flu med. When I am better, I’m back to working on my second dragon book and my fourth Arnhem Knights vampire book.

I am not qualified to read either stars or planets. I am intimately linked to the paranormal in the world in many ways. So are you.

Gremlins are wrapping gifts as fast as possible. There’s always one that is eating all the holiday food treats. There’s always one. Start baking now to keep up and hide the candies.

Mermaids are setting up their choir sings. If you can’t attend a concert, get a CD just to add a little cheer in your home.

Gemini:
Faeries are spending some time in seclusion to read and listen to music. Just chill. They are coming up on magical time and want to be prepared. Try it.

Cancer:
Werewolves are buying holiday pillows to brighten up the sofa. It doesn’t take a lot to give your home that holiday look.

Leo:
Vampires are strolling down memory lane, remembering the wonderful people and beautiful places. Do the same.

Virgo:
Shapeshifters are feeling overwhelmed. Ask family/friends to help. Often being with a trusted group makes everything better and more fun.

Libra
Goblins don’t usually work together. Consider how collaborating can help you achieve your goal.

Scorpio:
Unicorns love playing games. Have you tried gaming? Board games can be fun too when the power goes out.

Sagittarius:
Sirens aren’t used to giving kind words. Some people are in dire need of a kind word or two. Give a little kindness without having any reason at all.

Capricorn:
Sprites need to slow down and treasure those that love them. When you go so fast in life, you miss out!

Aquarius:
Pixies have a list of fun holiday events to attend. Consider taking in some events too.

Pisces:
Elves never stop studying and often find an Elf with more experience in their interests. You might want to consider the possibility too.

Behind the Books: Vampires in Manhattan Series By Susan Hanniford Crowley

I get all my ideas for my books right out of my dream journal. I’ve done this for so many years that often the dream is really a chapter or several chapters for my book.

While I’m writing, I do not read other people’s books, with the exception on any historical or place research I need.

The first book I wrote was actually The Stormy Love Life of Laura Cordelais. That’s where I got to know a lot about Vampire David Hilliard. David is the only vampire character who appears in every one of my vampire novels. He co-stars in Stormy as that is his origin story as well as Laura’s.

In what order should a person read them? You can read them independent of order, but some people like reading them in order to learn more with each book, about David, or some of the other characters.

Why Manhattan?

While I haven’t lived in Manhattan, when I was growing up I spend a lot of time there when I visited my Aunt Helen and Grandmother. I know where places are and even though some places change (such as restaurants), other places are solid like Central Park.

The first book published was When Love Survives, which is about September 11th when the twin towers of the World Trade Center were attacked and destroyed by terrorists in hijacked planes. It brings out how New Yorkers came to help to rescue as many as they could. In the book, even paranormal beings and people with supernatural gifts arrived to help.

And that’s how Stormy as I call it for short was published.

One reader told me she hated all vampire stories but decided to give mine a try. She loved David Hilliard. She was surprised that he was religious and a hero and just loved the book.

Next came A Vampire for Christmas. My publisher asked if I had a Christmas book. I said, “Yes, I do.”

Here’s the blurb:

Side note: Not having a reflection in a mirror is a myth. Folklore and documented case histories don’t bear that out.

What I love is that Georgia keeps on going no matter what hardships are happening in her life. Trevor comes from a rich family of vampires but he is also a vampire knight called an Arnhem Knight. This is the first time the Arnhem Knights are mentioned. They take an oath to prevent human death by vampire and to help Supernaturals needing assistance. (They include paranormal beings.)

People have walked up to me and talked about how much they love A Vampire for Christmas. All its fans don’t necessarily post a review on Facebook.

This book is the sequel story to Regina and Gregor from New York. They are going to his family’s home in Maine for their wedding. Sometimes weddings are peaceful and superb. At other weddings, anything that can go wrong will.

One of the influences on me was the Norse mythology, in particular The Saga of the Volsungs which has shape shifters in it and not everyone in a family shifts to the same animal. A character shifts to an animal that is most like them. Someone who spend the night reading might be an owl. A person who loves hunting might shift to a wolf.

Kitten Krazy Paranormal-Scope

We have kittens. They run, jump, and play whenever they are not sleeping or eating. They pause to hug then like a thunder burst, they are off again leaping, running over your feet, hiding, and jumping on their sister’s head. Ever notice how we might be the same way. Well, maybe with the exception of jumping on your sister’s head.

Aries:
Gremlins frolic in the snow before they shovel it. Perhaps you could do with some frolicking.

Taurus:
Mermaids are preparing for a long trip. They use maps found in old ship wrecks. Why not plan for a trip you’d like to take in detail.

Gemini:
Faeries are making their home comfy and cozy. They are expecting a fierce storm. It might be a good idea to stock some non-perishable food you don’t have to cook, just in case.

Cancer:
Werewolves are having book clubs. They like reading, getting together, and eating potluck. Sounds like a good plan to me. You could try it.

Leo:
Vampires are taking long walks in the dark. Below freezing temperatures don’t bother them. It’s a good idea to stay home when it gets that cold. If you have to go out, remember to dress in layers.

Virgo:
Shapeshifters are making pies. Try it. You may enjoy the art of baking. And eating too!

Libra
Goblins have made their list and checked it twice. They have bought all their holiday gifts already. How are you doing on that?

Unicorns have joined choirs. Singing with others is fun and often times very warming to the heart. You don’t have to be in a choir to sing.

Sagittarius:
Sirens dance on the tips of the waves during a storm. Then they dive deep to take a restorative nap. Try napping when you can.

Capricorn:
Sprites want to do everything. It’s true. Make a list. Cross off each item with one line. This will make you feel accomplished.

Aquarius:
Pixies enjoy volunteering in the community. Visit different groups to find out what volunteers do and if that’s what you’d like to do too. Always test the waters first.

Pisces:
Elves love decorating for the season and holidays. It makes them happy to carry on family traditions. Some don’t have a family. If that’s the case, create your own traditions. Make a photo album afterwards.

We just got a box. The kittens followed me to the kitchen to see what’s in it. It’s food with gravy. They love gravy. There was also the boars bristle brush for short haired cats. They lined up to be brushed. I told them they now look great. They paused then leaped into a game. Isn’t that life? We’re always leaping into the next game.

Life Tools: Creating Cozy By Susan Hanniford Crowley

Today’s Life Tools are about creating a cozy space when there’s storms or your need rejuvenation. Cozy is defined as warmth, comfort, and relaxation.

Let’s consider making your home more cozy!

Comfort foods and drinks. Whether it’s a comforting cup of coffee, a soothing cut of tea, or a cocoa with marshmallows, keep the drinks on hand that make you happy. Do the same with food. If you have a freezer, stock it. Be sure to put the current date on it and know how long you can keep certain foods frozen. You might prefer to make a canned goods pantry. Eat hot foods.

Blankets. Blankets can not only take the chill of when you come in from being outside. I love blanket chests. Make sure you have blankets handy. In my house they are in the bedrooms and the living room. Make sure you have warm pajamas, robes, and slippers too.

Heat. Some home don’t have a choice in heat. Make sure that whatever your heating method is working well before the cold hits your area.

Hobbies and Passions. Whether you play a musical instrument or embroider, crochet or bake artisan bread, when the cold weather sets in it’s your time to indulge in a hobby or passion.

Guests. It is a tradition in my cultures to always have a bit more on hand to accommodate guests in your home. Make them a hot beverage. Share a meal.

Entertainment. In storms, there are outages. Keep devices and external batteries charged. If you can’t watch movies and shows, read a book. Use an eReader or read a print book.


How do you get cozy when you’re going out and about?

Dress in layers. On top of that, wear a winter coat, hat, scarf, and gloves. If there’s rain or snow, wear boots. Don’t wear all black. If you’re out at night, it makes it hard to be seen. Choose some bright colors for your hat, coat, scarf, etc.

Meet up for coffee with friends. A good conversation always warms the heart, inspires the mind, and makes the body feel cozy.

If you are traveling by car, always have an emergency blanket in the car. When the snow season hits, I carry an extra pair of warm socks in my purse.

Visit a bookstore and enjoy the warm browsing. If they have a coffee shop, buy a treat to have at home.


I’m sure you can had even more ways to get that cozy feeling. Whatever you choose, enjoy it. Everyone works hard all day. Our off time is for fun and relaxation. Remember. Keep those you love safe.

Thanksgiving Paranormal-Scope

This Thursday, we are celebrating Thanksgiving in the United States of America. I’m having the family over. I know some people have friends over. Some prefer a fancy restaurant dinner. If I were alone, I would opt for the restaurant. However, you celebrate, relax and just enjoy.

I am not qualified to read either stars or planets. I am intimately linked to the paranormal in the world in many ways. So are you.

The paranormal-scope is for entertainment and is not meant to guide your life.

Aries:
Gremlins love to travel. Having a backup plan in case of delays is a good thing. Try to relax in every situation.

Taurus:
Mermaids are preparing for the currents to change. Be open to change and rearranging your options.

Gemini:
Faeries welcome the change in the seasons. The snow season lets them study and enjoy their home more. It also offers some exciting adventures.

Cancer:
Werewolves don’t like making resolutions, because they know things change. Write down one or two achievable goals in pencil.

Leo:
Vampires know that to achieve anything takes planning and hard work. Be prepared to get projects done.

Shapeshifters are settling in for a long winter’s nap. Rejuvenation is needed after working so hard.

Life Tools: Sharing Family/Friends Experiences By Susan Hanniford Crowley

Today’s Life Tools are about sharing experiences with others close to you!

Today I went with my daughters and grandchildren to see the movie WICKED, Part 1. It was fantastic not only in the story but in the music. I can’t wait now until Part 2 comes out. If you love the movies like I do, sharing the experience with friends and/or family is great fun. There’s nothing like knowing most of the people in your row.

One of my daughters is a blogger that reviews books. She makes recommendations to me all the time as to what books to read. Sharing paperback books between family and friends is a time honored tradition.

Go to a sporting event as a group and cheer on your team. In a bigger sense you are cheering on your family/friends team.

In the USA, we are celebrating Thanksgiving on Thursday. Family we will coming over to share a festive turkey dinner with all the trimmings. Many are having Friendsgiving meals instead. What matters most is that you are sharing the experience with people who care about.


There are many types of experiences you can share as a group. These are just examples of sharing a life experience. Have fun. Enjoy yourself and share!

Whatever you choose, be safe, and keep those you love close.

The Little Things Paranormal-Scope

With so many changes coming our way in addition to so many traditional events, it’s important to cherish those people we love. Cherish the little things.

I am not qualified to read either stars or planets. I am intimately linked to the paranormal in the world in many ways. So are you.

Aries:
Gremlins love choices. Some will travel. Some will study different subjects. You have a lot of things you could do to make your own happiness.

Taurus:
Mermaids are always swimming forward toward new adventures. Keep your eyes open for the new adventure awaiting you.

Gemini:
Faeries use new opportunities to meet people. Keep your mind open, but at the same time give any new friendships a chance to evolve. Don’t jump in too quickly.

Cancer:
Werewolves love being creative from painting to building bird houses or playing the trumpet. Indulge a passion of yours.

Leo:
Vampires are usually solitary but even they enjoy a reunion of friends/family. Plan a get-together.

Virgo:
Shapeshifters know everything is not perfect and doesn’t have to be. Make things well and enjoy the process as much as the collaboration with others in creating.

Libra
Goblins are finishing their to-do list for the year. Do the same. Cross off anything that isn’t necessary.

Scorpio:
Unicorns are making their home cozy with small additions in decor here and there. Enjoy decorating.

Sagittarius:
Sirens often go to a new location to get a new perspective on a problem they are trying to solve. This method might work for you too. It could be as simple as going to a museum or taking a walk.

Capricorn:
Sprites love to be still and retreat into themselves to restore and energize. If you can’t do this at home, plan a daycation.

Aquarius:
Pixies love the holidays and all the parties and events. Get out of your home and have fun.

Pisces:
Elves love a makeover to look and feel their best for the holidays. Be kind to yourself and don’t try to do everything at once.

Writing Tools: Writing the Dragon Sequel By Susan Hanniford Crowley

The Writing Tools today is about writing a sequel to your first book in the series. I’m a pantser, which means I write by the seat of my pants. I tried various plotting systems and when using them, discovered I knew to much about the book and now it wasn’t fun to write.

I write what I do because it’s enormous fun for me. I enjoy being surprised by my characters. I love coming to the end and smiling. I didn’t know it in advance most of the time. I dream all my books and have to wait for the last dream to know the end. Still a fantasy needs to be consistent with names and places and if there are new dragons or place, research is involved. Here’s what you need for a sequel.

You need to read the first book. Often time passes between books and you want to freshen up on all your information.

You need a writer’s bible of the book. That is more or less and index that tells you all the names, important dates, important events, places, and in my case, dragons-type, skills and talents, strengths and weaknesses, and needs. Some people do an expanded Table of Contents (author only) Show the above information set up chapter-by-chapter. Whichever method you choose, make sure it is searchable.


I say this from experience. As I go through my edits before giving my next novel to my editor, I have found all kinds of inconsistences. I’ve named characters wrong, misspelled their name. I have a lot of fixing ahead for me.


For your own sake, don’t use AI to write your book or fix it. Fixing spelling and a sentence here and there may need a grammar check is find. Use spell checkers and grammar checkers..

If you use AI on your entire book, it will no longer have your author’s voice. In fantasy, the author often creates words with specific meanings for your tale. AI will correct your new inventions replacing them with old inventions and ruin your book. Save yourself heartache and hours of rewriting to fix your book by not using AI.


Be sure to write complete character sketches in your book. For me, that includes for my dragons, especially those that interact with humans.

Make your places come alive. When you have a home describe it in detail in action. The affect is similar to inviting a person in. Practice the Law of Hospitality when writing about anyone’s home that your character(s) enter.

Make your characters credible with more than how they look and act and want to do. Include their surroundings, their background, and relatives. Why are they connected to your main character(s).


What is most important is to enjoy this process too! Some authors even use parts of their writer’s bible for a published companion book. I am planning that too.

Enjoy your writing. Let it flow through you and out your fingertips across the keyboard. It’s like music.
