Having A Heat Wave Paranormal-Scope
Heat is nothing to job about! I hope you are keeping cool where you are.
While I am not qualified to read either stars or planets I am intimately linked to the paranormal in the world in many ways. So are you.

Think about Tomorrow
Last week I wrote about being intentional with our thoughts—taking the time to slow down and just think about what it is we are doing and why. So many of us go through life on autopilot without a thought for their own wellbeing or the wellbeing of others.
I’m a people watcher. In those rare moments of rest while out in public, I find myself just staring off and studying others. And what I notice most is that we don’t take care of ourselves. Perhaps it’s because I’m so focused on this now as I question my own health (mental, physical, spiritual and emotional), but I don’t fully believe that’s it.
I believe the majority of us don’t take care of ourselves because we lack the time, resources or knowledge to do so. But then what? As a caregiver to an aging parent, I can say it isn’t a pretty outcome. And it isn’t only my own situation. I see the same with friends and other members of my family. We don’t aim to be burdens to others or even have our own quality of life suffer. Sometimes it just sneaks up on us, but it doesn’t have to be that way.
I know being intentional and taking time to care for oneself can be very difficult, but it is an investment that pays twofold—one to help you better navigate the challenges of today and two, to aim for your own brighter tomorrow.

The Normal Paranormal-Scope

Goblins count each coin carefully. This week you should too.

Faeries keep their self-discoveries to themselves. They are indeed wise. Spend time in reflection and self-discovery.

Shapeshifters have many aspects to their lives. Work. Family. Even charity. Find a cause you believe in and volunteer.

The Angel is best when in a group. Spend some time with those close to you, but keep an eye out for new friends. Not everyone is a keeper, but you will find them.

Wizards plan ambitiously for the future in private. The owls say it is not a good time to share your plans.

Be Intentional
One of my favorite times of day is early morning. It is quiet, peaceful and the world is still slumbering for the most part. Depending on the time of year, I can catch a sliver of sunrise coming through my window as I try to collect my thoughts. It’s the time of day where I can hear myself think.
We spend so much of our days on autopilot and as a mother, wife and daughter of an aging parent, I get why this can be a good thing. With the amount of things I do, I would not get half of them done if I stopped to think about it all. Still, there are moments where I worry that I’m going to miss out on too much of life because I don’t slow down enough to breathe and reflect on what is going on.
I started yoga and meditation as a way of doing more reflection and quite frankly, taking a sanity break amidst life’s challenges. It has helped so much, but most of all, the biggest difference has been taking the time to be intentional about what I’m doing and why I’m doing it— not with everything but certainly with my own health and wellbeing.

Writing Tools: What Does Getting A Rejection Mean? By Susan Hanniford Crowley
Everyone once in a while I chance upon someone on social media who received a rejection of their manuscript. It could even be a “no” when their manuscript was held up several months with a “maybe.”
Don’t shed a tear over a rejection. Put it in your rejection file so you can show the tax people, if necessary, that you are indeed a working writer.
Here’s the truth about rejections: No, doesn’t mean anything!
No, doesn’t mean anything. Why?
The intern didn’t come in, so someone with too much of their own work is sending out “no” to everyone on the intern’s desk.The person in charge of that pile is sick or has a headache and sent No to everyone.
The pile is too big and takes up space on their desk and they want a clear desk.
The first couple of pages might have been read by someone who didn’t like it. Everyone has an opinion and it might not be what they enjoy reading.
The first couple of pages might have been read by someone who passed it upward but got the word that they are already publishing a book on that idea and so they won’t take yours. It’s competition.
Here are some other reasons you were rejected.
1. The editor died who loved your type of work and no one is replacing them. (That happened to a friend.)
2. The company has just been bought out by another publishing house and everything there was automatically rejected. (That happened to another friend.)
3. You have not edited your manuscript enough and mistakes are showing. That means you will have to edit it yourself around ten times and hire an editor to edit it before sending it out again. Unfortunately, the rejection probably won’t say that and merely state, “It’s not for us.”
4. A celebrity’s manuscript had just come in and bounced you out of being published. (I know because that happened to me. Funny story: I was at a cocktail party in Manhattan when a publisher walked up to me and apologized for not publishing mine which he loved. His apology was very loud and everyone stopped talking and stared at us. He had reasoned that the celebrity would really bring in big sales and that didn’t happen.) Regardless, publishers still do this.
They will go with the royals, celebrities, influencers, politicians, and anyone rich and famous before publishing anyone new, not famous, and/or not wealthy. It all boils down to money spent on advertising. It costs more to advertise an unknown.
The only time a rejection means anything is when there is something helpful written on it. If they ask you to fix it and resubmit, do it!!! That’s how I started with Marion Zimmer Bradley writing back to me with advice.
So basically what I am saying to you is that the rejection most likely has nothing to do with your book. Keep sending it out. If you get positive advice act on it right away and in your return cover letter, say, “Thank you!”

Creatures of Light Paranormal-Scope
There are creatures of light all around us. Above is a photo of fireflies. Their lights are meant to attract mates. Currently, on a worldwide basis, fireflies are in trouble from pesticides, loss of habitat, and light pollution. Lights pollution disrupts mating. Fireflies help humanity by protecting gardens. They and their larvae eat snails, slugs, aphids, and cutworms. You can help them by turning off outdoor lights during the summer and setting aside a part of your yard to be wild (no pesticides, no cutting.)

Life Tools: A Safety Tip for Men and Women that Could Save Your Lives
Dear Readers,
For Americans, I hope you are having a safe and fun holiday celebrating July 4th.
Today I’m going to talk a little about breast cancer. So far I am about 4 1/2 years cancer free. Still, my doctors check me and recheck. I get a mammogram once a year. But, it’s important to do more for yourself.
Both women and men can get breast cancer. Because there is not enough advertising about men getting it, the men that do get breast cancer sometimes see the doctor when it’s at a more advanced stage.
Let’s stop this right now! Live your best life. Men and Women, do a breast or chest check every day!
In 2018, I got a great mammogram showing no problems. Six months later on Dec. 24, 2018, I found a lump the size of a rock in my breast. I had Stage 1 and rapidly growing. My mind went into analytic mode. On Dec. 26, I called my ob-gyn doc. She was booked for three months. I could have an appointment with a midwife. I said yes. Then I got on the phone with women friends in search of recommendations for oncologists and breast cancer surgeons. I looked up all the recommendations online and read about them.
It is vital that you be proactive for yourself. I was and it made a huge difference. Take notes. Make calls. Look things up especially if you don’t understand. Go to the doctor with a paper list of questions? Get printouts of directions and medicine lists.
It all started with a self-check. You don’t have to promise me that you will do it. Promise yourself!
I am not a medical expert. Please, always check with your doctor. Express your concerns. This is what I’ve found on the internet for self-checks. If you find something, call your doctor right away. Don’t wait!

Be sure to check the under bottoms of the chest too.
Bring the subject up with your doctor! There could be new tests and new self-checks instructions coming out at any time. The fight against breast cancer is ongoing!
