Ocean Deep Paranormal-Scope

The ocean has always been very important to me. I was born in a hospital next to the Thames River which opens into Long Island Sound in Connecticut. Going to the beach was always a part of my life. Let’s look at the paranormal qualities of those that dwell there.

While I am not qualified to read either stars or planets I am intimately linked to the paranormal in the world in many ways. So are you.

The paranormal-scope is for entertainment and is not meant to guide your life.

Aries:
The Kraken prefers to sleep in. Sleep is important to health and energy. Are you getting enough rest?

Taurus:
The Sea Serpents like to come to the surface, look around, and go back down. It’s nice to get out once in a while. Plan to see something new.

Gemini:
Cthulhu is a monster made up by author H.P. Lovecraft. That hasn’t prevented people from seeing it from time to time. Imagination is a very powerful tool. Use yours well.

Cancer:
A Leviathan is a super large sea monster. Some say it looks like a winding eel. Some problems seem super large. Looking at it from another perspective can make it smaller.

Leo:
Sirens lure sailors to their deaths. They are very convincing singers. Time to expand your music collection. Avoid sirens.

Virgo:
The Dogfish of legend can swallow a person whole or a bus. It is featured in the story of Pinnochio. Don’t bite off more than you can chew. Do one task at a time.

Libra
Nessie has relatives in the sea. They are a camera-shy bunch. Take some photos. It’s fun. Choose the ones you like best to get printed.

Scorpio:
The Boobrie looks like a giant auk. It loves to swim in the lochs on Scotland’s western coast. Plan a trip to a place you love.

Sagittarius:
The Megalodon is a monster shark that lived during the Cenozoic Era. Studying a bit of history could be fun. Try it.

Capricorn:
The Hippocamp was a winged Greek sea horse that had the upper body of a whinnying horse and the lower body of a fish. An important achievement will signal the close of a long project. Congrats!

Aquarius:
The Kelpie of Irish tales is the famous shape-shifter, one moment a seal, another a woman. Things are not what they seem to be. Get all the facts before making any decisions.

Pisces:
The Lady in the Lake of English Mythology gave King Arthur the sword Excalibur. Her kindness toward the strong has no limits. A gift is coming your way.

Enjoy life and be safe.

Life Tools: Memories of Mom

Hanniford Family Photo of Sultana Hanniford at the Lyme Art Association

That’s my mom, the artist. I painted for a while but the call to write pulled me harder. My sister and I were her art show pit crew. We were kids but became quite expert at helping her pack her art for outdoor shows in New England. It became so much easier when she got into galleries. No a-frame structure for the peg boards and pegs to pack. No rain tarps!

Sultana Hanniford passed away in 2001.

Yesterday, when I saw tulips sprouting in the yard, I thought of Mom.

My mom loved gardening and wanted to save money by growing her own vegetables. She planted tomatoes, carrots, string beans, peas, and scallion onions. I remember her being very proud of the large lefty fernlike tops of her carrots. When Mom pulled them up, all she got was the tops. Some little critter had been tunneling below and ate the carrots from beneath. She moved on to take care of the other plants.

Like an artist, my mom made her garden a work of string art. It was outlined with string as a whole, then the rows, then individual plants.

One spring morning, we saw a bird pulling on a string. He pulled so hard that he flipped over, still holding on to the string. My mom went out with her ball of string and cut pieces and lay them across the main string. The bird came back several times to retrieve a string. Mom did this throughout the spring and many springs afterward.

All in all, my mom was pleased to have fresh tomatoes, peas, string beans, and scallions. Helping her with the garden and being part of her art show pit crew was always fun. Remember, when you have a ton of tomatoes, make spaghetti sauce. Smiles.

Truly,

Susan

An Alice Paranormal-Scope

When I was small Alice in Wonderland and Alice Through the Looking Glass by Lewis Carroll were my favorites along with Peter Pan. Today, let’s look at those fascinating people and creatures that live in Wonderland.

While I am not qualified to read either stars or planets I am intimately linked to the paranormal in the world in many ways. So are you.

The paranormal-scope is for entertainment and is not meant to guide your life.

Aries:
The White Rabbit is always in a hurry to get things done. Don’t be in such a hurry that you miss the beautiful things in your life.

Taurus:
Absolem is the hookah-smoking caterpillar. He is wise but always hands your questions back to you. You know the answers, really.

Gemini:
The Dormouse is a gifted singer and enjoys the company of friends. Plan a fun get-together with family/friends and don’t forget the music.

Cancer:
Cheshire Cat has an enigmatic smile. You have a wonderful smile too. Use it a lot this week and see the results.

Leo:
The behavior of the Mad Hatter can be difficult to understand at times but as friends go, he is loyal. Hang out with a special friend.

Virgo:
The March Hare might appear insane sometime, but he’s really reacting to the love in the air. Someone from your past may decide to pop up and say hi.

Libra
The Dodo is wise in subtle ways. They are a rare and unusual friend to find. They are always thinking of the other person. Have lunch and share ideas.

Scorpio:
The Red Queen is hot-tempered and acts without possessing all the facts. Keep focused on your work and lay low around those most like the Red Queen.

Sagittarius:
The story of the Jabberwock represents slaying a beast. It is the test of the hero or heroine. A test will be coming your way. Be prepared. You’ve got this.

Capricorn:
Tweedledee and Tweedledum are twin brothers that argue a lot. You may find people like that. It’s best to smile and continue your work.

Aquarius:
The Gryphon was a fictional creature created by Lewis Carroll. Though looking like a griffin, he is multi-lingual. Consider studying a new language or one in which you have a few words.

Pisces:
The Mock Turtle sobs because he wishes he could be a real turtle. You are real enough, but there is always more to learn and enjoy. Plan a treat for yourself.

Enjoy life and be safe.

Writing Tools: Sensory Imagery By Susan Hanniford Crowley

[image error]Pexels.com" data-medium-file="https://nightsofpassion.files.wordpre..." data-large-file="https://nightsofpassion.files.wordpre..." src="https://nightsofpassion.files.wordpre..." alt="" class="wp-image-29030" srcset="https://nightsofpassion.files.wordpre... 819w, https://nightsofpassion.files.wordpre... 120w, https://nightsofpassion.files.wordpre... 240w, https://nightsofpassion.files.wordpre... 768w, https://nightsofpassion.files.wordpre... 1040w" sizes="(max-width: 819px) 100vw, 819px" />Photo by Josh Hild on Pexels.com

This Writing Tool can also be used as a writing prompt. The bottom line is to let your surroundings inspire your writing. Fill your writing with sensory imagery.

Notice the details. Examples: The raindrop impressions on the water, her red umbrella, and the city lights reflecting in a fuzzy way. Imagine the sounds. Cars passing. The drip-drop of the rain. The sloshing sound of water against the rocks. What scents fill the air? Saltwater? Maybe mixed fragrances of fried food from a fast food place? How does she feel? Wet? Sad and lonely? Happy and feeling free? Planning where to go next? Will she pick up a rock? Is the footing slippery? Don’t forget to add “touch.”

You are not tied to using this picture for your inspiration. Look through a photo album, or window, or visit someplace that inspires you. Take a lot of photos for later.

Stay safe and warm. Spring approaches but a lot of places are still cold.

Truly,

Susan

New Moon Paranormal-Scope

[image error]Pexels.com" data-medium-file="https://nightsofpassion.files.wordpre..." data-large-file="https://nightsofpassion.files.wordpre..." src="https://nightsofpassion.files.wordpre..." alt="" class="wp-image-29660" width="-232" height="-222" />Moon Photo by Pixabay on Pexels.com

I love a New Moon. Every time I hear the word new, I think about evaluating where I am and what new options I still can explore. I also am feeling the need to restore. I think I’ll take a nap.

While I am not qualified to read either stars or planets I am intimately linked to the paranormal in the world in many ways. So are you.

The paranormal-scope is for entertainment and is not meant to guide your life.

Aries:
Were-rabbits are searching for the new grass, which is very tasty. Try making some new recipes just for fun.

Taurus:
Cats can show you a new perspective by sitting on a sunny spot on the floor. Take off shoes and socks and step into that spot. Oh, the warmth. Time to make your home cozy and warm. You may get visitors.

Gemini:
Owls enjoy the darkness of a new moon. Instead of talking a lot, they listen. Listening well can increase their prosperity.

Cancer:
Were-pugs have become more introspective and pulled out all their hidden toys. They just want to play. Schedule playtime for yourself. Laugh. Have fun!

Leo:
Werewolves relax since there’s no need to howl at the moon. Hanging out with family or friends is a top priority.

Virgo:
Vampires kick back and watch all their favorite vampire movies and shows. A bubble bath is also on their agenda. Have a home spa day. Do those things that help you relax.

Libra
A Unicorn is trotting down your street. You’re in for some luck. Smile and make friends and be productive at work.

Scorpio:
Pegasus soars above your head. It hands to nap among some flowers. Bring some bright blooms inside your home.

Sagittarius:
Elves are taking a forest inventory of what has passed away and what had new buds. Take a home inventory of what is good but needs to be stored and what needs repairs or is thrown away.

Capricorn:
Dragons take stock of old hurts, finding a way to forget and get past them. Don’t let your past hold you down from accomplishing your dreams.

Aquarius:
Mermaids love to listen and help others with their support. Be a listener to someone close to you.

Pisces:
Pixies love to travel and see new places. You might feel the same. Plan but plan a budget too. The place doesn’t have to be far away but new to you.

Enjoy life and be safe.

My Writing Routine By Susan Hanniford Crowley

I was talking to my older daughter and she was talking about Neil Gamin’s writing routine. That got me thinking.

First, I’ll start with pens. I’ve used a variety over the years often for their inspiring appearance and how they feel in my hand. My number one go-to pen is still the Uni-ball Deluxe Rollerball Pens, Fine Point (0.7mm), Black. I also use a thin pen with an amethyst crystal on top and a faux diamond topped pen.

Second, is the time I write.

Ideally, I write as soon as I wake up since I write my books from dreams. Mornings especially before the rest of the family awakens is ideal. When I can’t do my ideal, as my life can be hectic at times, I write when I can. I’m fortunate that I’ve trained my mind to keep dreams in my head until I can get to pen and paper or a computer. I’ve written while in a doctor’s waiting room. I’ve written while in the hospital. I’ve written in hotel rooms at night after a conference. This is why I always keep a notebook and pens on me. All day with breaks. That happens when I’m deep in a novel and want to keep going.I have been inspired by music. I had seen the cello rendition of “Paint It Black” by Mick Jagger and Keith Richards on the Netflix series Wednesday. I stayed up until one in the morning, playing it over and over, while I wrote a very intense battle scene in my next dragon book.

Third, is where I write.

I did have an in-home office in the basement. I called it my dungeon. My family complained that they missed me with all the hours that I write, so I moved to a living room chair or the sofa.I tried having a desk in a corner of the bedroom. I also tried writing sitting on my bed to write. Both make me sleepy.Currently, I sit on the sofa with my laptop and write. I have the ability to completely zone in on my writing and not pay attention to the TV program the family is watching. I usually write in a journal and then transcribe it onto the computer. On rare occasions, I write a novel entirely on the computer. I have also written on a legal pad. Only you can determine the best place for you.

Fourth, is how many days I write.

I write every day. I do not keep a word count. I have as many as five manuscripts in process. Sometimes I write as much as I can on one and then switch to writing on another. Usually, my dreams start focusing on one and I write until I’m finished.

Fifth, how I back up my books.

1. I keep copies on Flash or thumb drives.
2. I email them in progress to my editor with the note “Keep Safe.” I have her permission to do this.
3. I emailed them to myself.
4. I print them out and put them into a binder. This comes in handy for editing. |

When you become a writer, you choose your own process. Have fun with this! Stay safe, my friends!

Truly,

Susan

Most Important

I remember watching this movie Leap Year several years ago and there was a part where the male protagonist asks the female protagonist what she would bring with her if her home was on fire and she had to evacuate. I can’t recall what she said, but I’ve certainly been reflecting on what is important in life as I watch those around me age and feel my own time pass.

I’m not quite sure what I’d grab. For now, all I can think of is whom—my family. These past few years have been so turbulent and my guess is it’s not a temporary state. This is life, but family has been a constant and for that I feel fortunate.

The theme I took away from Leap Year and many of these love stories is not only about love but about what is important in life. It is a theme I see play out every day in my life and through my job. We need some sort of material goods for a place to live or to get around, but many of us certainly don’t need everything we have and want. And I write this knowing I’m completely guilty of this too.

Still, I’m trying to shift my focus to what is most important moving forward. Happy writing this week!

Secrets Vampires Keep Paranormal-Scope

[image error]Pexels.com" data-medium-file="https://nightsofpassion.files.wordpre..." data-large-file="https://nightsofpassion.files.wordpre..." src="https://nightsofpassion.files.wordpre..." alt="" class="wp-image-29648" />Photo by Trace Hudson on Pexels.com

In the event of a blizzard, make sure you will have heat, water, non-cook food, and a copy of The Vampire with a Blanket of Stars on your charged-up Kindle, Nook, & other ebooks readers. The vampires really know about snow in Romania. https://www.amazon.com/Vampire-Blanket-Stars-Arnhem-Knights/dp/1796926760

While I am not qualified to read either stars or planets I am intimately linked to the paranormal in the world in many ways. So are you.

The paranormal-scope is for entertainment and is not meant to guide your life.

Aries:
Vampires are experts at keeping their cool. They listen and discover what people really mean.

Taurus:
Vampires treasure connections and friendships made over centuries. Knowing others makes life more exciting and takes away loneliness.

Gemini:
Vampires have had many passions in different careers. If the passion fades, they try another career. You may want to explore something else and see where that leads you.

Cancer:
Vampires have mastered the art of listening. In this way, they get to meet a lot of new people. Be gentle with yourself. You will meet new friends that share your interests.

Leo:
Vampires have been dressing to impress for years. Whether it’s a job interview or a meeting with friends, spend time updating your wardrobe. Remember to accessorize.

Virgo:
Vampires nurture their relationships. For some, letting a friend go to try a new path in life hurts but is vital. Friendship is a 2-way street. What is best for us, may not be what is best for them. If they are parting, part on good terms.

Libra
Vampires know the value of saving money for a long life. Go over your budget. Find where you can save and also where you can pay your debts off early.

Scorpio:
Vampires have survived so long but finding ways to improve themselves. Consider taking a course or reading a series of books. Find your way to self-enhancement.

Sagittarius:
Vampires have left behind so many “homes,” you’d think they’d be used to it. Find the definition of “home” for yourself. How can you make yours more cozy and comfy?

Capricorn:
Vampires like to chat a lot to get the other person to reveal more about themselves. They invest a lot of time before meeting someone. You never know who is carrying a stake.

Aquarius:
Vampires survive through the loyalty of friends and family. It’s a strong system that gives them a place wherever they go and the emotional support to live on. Plan a get-together to reinforce bonds.

Pisces:
Vampires don’t overindulge in shopping. Too much stuff weighs them down. Consider going through your things and getting rid of what you don’t love.

Enjoy life and be safe.

Life Tools: *5 Ways to Enjoy Life More By Susan Hanniford Crowley

Enjoy life more! A quote from Deepak Chopra says: The future is a mystery, the past is history, NOW is a gift, that’s why it’s called the present.

Going on that note, I recommend treating your present as a gift. Here are 5 ways you can enjoy that gift of life now!

Do you love television/movies? Binge-watch your favorites. Do it alone or invite friends/family over. Ask everyone to bring some favorite food to share if they can.
Enjoy your interior space. Redecorate. Maybe bring out some things you’ve put away and exchange them with what’s been on the shelf. I’ve decorated my fireplace mantle with each passing holiday! Repair what you dearly need to be repaired. Throw out clutter.
Enjoy your exterior space. This means going for a walk whether it’s in your yard or down the street. Develop a new habit like buying something small at your corner store every day. When I was in Glasgow, Scotland for a week, I went into the convenience store around the corner from my B&B and bought the local newspaper and a soda. It was the same every day, but I met the shopkeeper and talked to a gentleman walking his Scottish Terrier who told me that the local museum I intended to visit was closed for repairs. He recommended other places of interest.
Create a sacred space even if it is a chair, small cabinet or desk, and a light. Make it suitable for writing, artwork, crocheting, knitting, quilting, coloring, or a reading nook where you keep your current books and magazines.
Do something new. Some people learn a new word from the dictionary every day. Take an online class. Watch a documentary. Plant flower seeds in cups!

Have fun with this! Stay safe, my friends! Keep warm.

Truly,

Susan

Help or Hindrance

Why is it that it seems we need constant saving from ourselves? Or perhaps that’s the theme I’m coming across these days. I turn on the latest podcasts and hear about apps that “stop”pause” people for several seconds before making an investment and this is meant to help them think about the choices they are making so they don’t get caught up in the emotions of the moment. We create endless lists to keep ourselves on task or we lose our day. Our calendars are full of reminders and our desktops are littered with post its.

It is nothing new that we are full of mistakes or the ability to make mistakes. It is somehow what has made us human. Still, it seems that we are relying more and more on external devices and reminders to keep us on track.

This doesn’t surprise me. My own father is having memory issues and it seems to be common enough in our aging population. Are all these reminders possibly a way of helping us or are they a hindrance? I don’t know the answer to this. I know that I use a lot of these reminders and I can’t help but think that they would be a helpful tool. In practice however, I’m finding them a bit more difficult to implement when it comes to cognitive impairment. It also makes me wonder if I’m becoming too dependent on them.

I have lots of questions and not many answers, but they all seem to lead me back to the same conclusion that maybe it is okay to do less and focus more on what is most important than speed down an endless list without paying much attention.

Happy writing this week and May it be productive for you.
