The Truth About Dragons Paranormal-Scope

Sweet Romance with tons of dragon adventure and available in Amazon Kindle and Paperback

There’s a lot of misinformation regarding dragons. For example, people think dragons hoard gold. They don’t. Shapeshifters, who like turning into dragons, love to collect gold. Let’s continue!

While I am not qualified to read either stars or planets I am intimately linked to the paranormal in the world in many ways. So are you.

The paranormal-scope is for entertainment and is not meant to guide your life.

Aries:
Dragon parents know when a child dragon needs to try their wings. Be supportive. Being there is enough. Spent some time in self-reflection.

Taurus:
Dragons are always open to making friends. Time will bring new people in your path. Networking will bring more. Be a good listener.

Gemini:
Dragons are exacting when it comes to setting boundaries. Do the same in your life to make things easier to manage.

Cancer:
Dragons embrace knowledge and have been know to travel far and wide to learn. Taking a course or two whether in-person or online might be perfect for your needs.

Leo:
Dragons always keep their eyes wide open not only in their surroundings but when opportunities are being discussed. Keep your eyes wide open.

Virgo:
Dragons have amazing relationships with those they befriend and/or love. They care for others. Devotion is key. Consider what you are looking for in a relationship.

Libra
Dragons know to let the winds carry them and not to fight against the current. They enjoy the journey. Let go more and go with the flow.

Scorpio:
Dragons rejoice as they soar and somersault through the skies. They are deeply content and happy. Search for your own happiness now. You are important and treat yourself that way.

Sagittarius:
Dragons measure success in different ways. Still down with yourself and list all your accomplishments and be proud of them.

Capricorn:
Dragons are very social and often compliment others on their good work. Notice the accomplishments of others and congratulate them. You will be forming friendships.

Aquarius:
Dragons don’t hoard gold but they understand that acquiring some walking around cash can be handy. Save for your retirement.

Pisces:
The most sacred treasure of a dragon is their family and friends. Spend some time with your loved ones.

Enjoy life and be safe.

Life & Writing Tools: 10 Ways to Put Sunshine in Living with Chronic Illness By Susan Hanniford Crowley

When I was a teen, bumper stickers read, “Life is a Beach!” They usually had a tiny image of a boat or surfboard. And while it may apply to boating and surfing, it also applies to life. We all have stormy or gray days. Sometimes we feel like the sand has been dragged out from under our feet. Then there are those glorious days when the sun warms the sand and the ocean looks crystal blue. Those are the happy days.

Last year, I was honored to speak on a panel of authors who persevere with chronic illness at the Nebula Awards Weekend which is a huge conference put on every year by SFWA (Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers Association) The “A” used to be for America, but we now have many members from around the world.

Being ill gives you true gratitude for the good days. For writers, it’s imperative that they write. Writing is like breathing and if you can’t or don’t write you feel worse. I believe it’s the same for everyone who loves their profession and then becomes limited in how much they can do. It’s usually the body that will stop us cold with a bout of illness requiring rest. How do you get past feeling sad?

1. Love yourself. Don’t compare your amount of produced work with others. Never do that even if you don’t have a chronic illness. No two people are alike, so the amount of produced work won’t be alike. Our brains have been trained in the assembly line model of the Industrial Age. Trash that concept right now. Love yourself and your creations! Embrace your life as a shining star!

2. If you have to stay in bed, then surround yourself with things you love. Examples: music, books, notepads for writing or sketching, a photo album you meant to put together but haven’t, knitting, crocheting, a camera for taking photos of things in the room, watching favorite shows or movies, etc. There are lots of ways to surround yourself with bits of happiness, even when you’re sick.

3. Sleep is a treasure to all mankind. If you fall asleep, enjoy it, and don’t admonish yourself. If you dream, use it. Write. Draw. Make a quilt of a scene. Use sleep to replenish and restore yourself. Sleep is our own mini spa day.

4. You have control over your environment! Put new pictures up. Maybe a tapestry that makes the room feel warm. Water flowering plants. Keep a chart for this so you don’t overwater. Maybe rearranging furniture with some help from others. Freshen up where you spend most of your time.

5. Getting out. If you can’t do long trips, then do short ones. Enjoy the sunshine in a yard or on a deck. Get out from time to time and see something you haven’t. I am fortunate to be near some fine museums. My favorite is the Mystic Seaport Museum. I visited often enough to warrant becoming a member. I always read their emails to see what new exhibit is coming up.

6. Be part of something outside yourself. If you can, join a group. Going to meetings and meeting people can really add some sunshine to your life. If you cannot, then join via your computer. When I spoke on the panel, I did so virtually. I couldn’t be there physically. I was very nervous about being seen by my colleagues when I hadn’t been seen by anyone for almost three years. So I asked one of my daughters to take me to her favorite makeup store. I didn’t want to appear haggard-looking online. The store assistant manager helped me with picking out things that would look good on me and also taught me how to apply them. Bravo, Ultra Beauty!

7. Your personal appearance can reflect how you feel. Give yourself a boost with the clothes you wear each day. Maybe a haircut or new style is in order. Makeup has been known to make women feel confident.

8. I once saw an interview with Actress Sophia Loren. What a gorgeous lady! She said that each day she has a little piece of chocolate. I figure she is having a bit of sunshine every day as a treat.

9. Put sunshine in your life by writing to others. Maybe not every day but several times a week, write a short note with something interesting in it. Change up who you write to. Perhaps one of your family or friends will end up being a steady pen pal. You can use email too, but if you can manage it, there is still something special about the written letter.

10. When a person becomes chronically ill, they have to become proficient in recording their health each day and keeping a medicine inventory as well as a record of what is taken and when. Use what you already do for your writing, your art, your job, or your hobby. Organize. And always!!! Celebrate a job well done!

These are only ten ways to put sunshine in your life! I’m sure there are more, and you’re invited to add your way in the comment box.

Have fun with this! Stay safe and well, my friends!

Truly,

Susan

The Last 2023 February Paranormal-Scope

face of snow storm

Snow is expected Monday night where I am. Be prepared and then let it go. Worrying never helps. Paranormal beings are in many ways like humans. Some worry. Some don’t.

While I am not qualified to read either stars or planets I am intimately linked to the paranormal in the world in many ways. So are you.

The paranormal-scope is for entertainment and is not meant to guide your life.

Aries:
Gnomes love shopping online, but they have to watch their spending this week. You would do well to do the same. Ask: Do I really need that?

Taurus:
Elves know that there are times to conform to the crowd, at least blend in. Standing out might cause you trouble instead. You will get your time to shine, just not this week.

Gemini:
Goblins like to hang out together. Unfortunately, that means they’re never alone. Something you just need some solitude. Treasure it when it comes.

Cancer:
For were-pugs, this week is all about making connections and asking for what you need. Maybe it’s a new chew toy. Everyone deserves a new toy now and then.

Leo:
Faeries enjoy setting goals. Look at what you really want in life and think about setting some goals for yourself to help you achieve them.

Virgo:
Pixies have no focus at all. This week’s focus is a priority. Don’t flutter here and there. Focus on one thing at a time.

Libra
Vampires know that when you’re in a rut, a change of course will make you feel rejuvenated. Consider a day trip or indulging a passion or hobby.

Scorpio:
Mermaids can feel when stormy seas upset their families/friends. They gather to eat, talk, and eat some more. Plan a gathering and reinforce the bonds of the heart.

Sagittarius:
Shapeshifters are masters of self-care. They create self-care routines. They do a little each day and sometimes mix it up for variety just to keep it interesting. Type “self-care routine ideas” into Google and you’ll get the idea.

Capricorn:
Dragons are very social and often compliment others on their good work. Notice the accomplishments of others and congratulate them. You will be forming friendships.

Aquarius:
Werewolves in a pack don’t always agree, but they do know how to have fun. Plan a fun activity for those close to you.

Pisces:
The phoenix always rises from the ashes. You’ve had some hard times but you’ll get through this. Sunshine is coming your way soon.

Enjoy life and be safe.

Writing Tools: Deep Characterization By Susan Hanniford Crowley

First, I’d like to say this time period recently has been a banner time for experiences and testing my mettle. Between the weather and episodes of illness, writing became a challenge. So I persevered because what doesn’t come out on paper lingers in my dreams. These dreams are filled with life-infusing details for my characters.

Second, I sometimes suffer from writer’s overwhelming. Yesterday, my dashboard had 6 manuscripts in progress open: the 2nd dragon book, the 3rd Maeve and Mike book, the 4th Arnhem Knights of New York book, a science fiction novel, a zombie book, and a paranormal Maine book. I was actually writing bits on each of them.

Because of that, I want to talk about Deep Characterization!

Most writers know how you need to know everything about your character from their birthday, physical description, occupation, work, home life, and fun activities.

Going deep means unveiling how they feel about things and people.

What frightens them? What are they proud of? What would they do in a crisis? What do they dream at night? Are they plagued by nightmares? Are they haunted by a past event? What is their belief system? What would they fight for? What do they love in the people that are important in their life? What do they protect?Who loves them?

I think you now have an idea of how to write a character to enrich your readers’ lives. You’re getting into the guts and truth of your character. I put up the book card for The Vampire with a Blanket of Stars because it is a great example of deep characterization.

Now it’s time for you and me to write. If things are tough, write what you can.

Have fun with this! Stay safe, my friends! Keep warm. A storm is coming at my location. I may switch to pen and paper to write and that’s okay too.

Truly,

Susan

A Vampire Spring Paranormal-Scope

Vampires really love the faux Spring that comes too early. It’s so unpredictable. Rain one moment, and in the next snow. Or a very warm day with clouds. Cloudy days are their favorites. Moments of mists and drizzle make them want to dance. After living so many more years than the average human they appreciate the subtle things that in hurrying to work, most humans miss.

While I am not qualified to read either stars or planets I am intimately linked to the paranormal in the world in many ways. So are you.

The paranormal-scope is for entertainment and is not meant to guide your life.

Aries:
Vampires love reading. They have used their longevity to visit libraries as often as possible, and on those days they can’t, they visit OpenLibrary.com No vampire wants to become a snow popsicle caught in a blizzard. Consider increasing your reading along the lines of your interests.

Taurus:
Vampires enjoy hot house flowers. Every chance they get, they will put flowers in their current abode. Brighten up your home with a flowering plant.

Gemini:
Vampires prefer more reliable weather for a trip, but planning one is almost as much fun as going. Plan a trip for yourself. It can be a long adventure or a weekend jaunt.

Cancer:
Though vampires can be loners, there’s more fun in a group. If there is something you need, you can always ask for help. Ask someone you respect and trust for assistance.

Leo:
Through the centuries, vampires have learned that agreements are sacred. Take many things into consideration before making a promise you will keep.

Virgo:
Vampires often dig into their past to learn more about themselves. Self-reflection and embracing who are you can be very rejuvenating.

Libra
Being a vampire there is always the danger of getting into a rut. You know, doing the same things day after day. Change it up. Add something new and interesting to your daily routine.

Scorpio:
When vampires live as a family/friends unit, they need to balance that life with their independent way of thinking. Communication is key to having great relationships and personal growth.

Sagittarius:
Even the ancient vampires know that stress can kill you. Plan a relaxing day of things to soothe the body, make you laugh, and release the tightness in your shoulders.

Capricorn:
Vampires like to leap ahead into adventures. Sometimes it’s better to get the advice of someone who has been there. Be informed before you leap into making a new decision.

Aquarius:
Vampires enjoy hobbies. You know, the usual like collecting rocks that have been engraved on or caring for their pet bat. This is your time to do the things you love to do. Have fun!

Pisces:
Vampires in a family/friends unit don’t always agree. It is important to talk things out. Truly listen to where others are coming from. It’s important for all of us to know how to listen first before responding.

Enjoy life and be safe.

Life & Writing Tools: What If I Don’t Have Dreams By Susan Hanniford Crowley

First, I’d like to thank Artemis Crow for being with Nights of Passion. We wish her enormous success. I hope to see her soon at an event.

Second, let’s talk about what you can do if you don’t dream. The mind is such a great collector of knowledge and practical wisdom. Whether we realize it or not, we’re constantly learning more about ourselves and life. The mind reveals things to us in many ways that don’t involve going to bed and dreaming. Here are some of the ways our brain conveys this information:

Daydreaming
-You see or hear something and it reminds you of something else. Maybe it’s a place you’d like to visit or something you’d like to buy for yourself or others.
-Daydreaming is a form of us testing the waters. Do we really want that?
-At other times, it is a stress release.
-Daydreams can also inspire. Maybe you’re constructing a goal to work toward.Deja vu experiences
-Have you been someplace that you’ve never been there before, but you know all about it? You didn’t read bout it in advance either. It’s just a feeling that you know the place. Sometimes it’s the same with meeting a new person. You may have the feeling you know them.Attraction
-You may find you’re attracted to certain items, people, and places. You may not know why though. Memorable Moment
-Something that has happened to you that doesn’t make sense. I call them Puzzles.
-It could be a miserable or Unhappy experience. It’s important to note these down. You may learn from it at a later date if not now.
-The Golden Moment is happy and surprising since it’s unexpected. You want to record this to look back on fondly. Somehow everything has fallen together to create this happy event in your life. It can also lift you up during hard times.Important Feelings
-These are your reactions to what is happening in your life at different times.

There may be more ways, but you can start recording these. How should you keep a record of your myriad experiences?

You can get a notebook and write them. You can sketch or paint them after the fact. Talk into a recorder

One of my daughters called hers My Experience Book. You may not be remembering dreams, but you can still take advantage of all the insights your brain is storing up and passing to you in various ways.

And if you happen to start remembering dreams, you can record them as well!

Have fun with this! Stay safe and well, my friends! Keep warm.

Truly,

Susan

For The Love Of…See You Down The Road by Artemis Crow

This image has an empty alt attribute; its file name is marble-crow-logo.jpg

My time as a guest poster has come to an end. I’m incredibly grateful to Nights Of Passion for giving me the opportunity to share my musings, my work, and the simple philosophies I hold dear. For my farewell, I leave you with my most important belief…pursue your passion.

Passions can be difficult for some to discover, even sometimes later in life. For others, it’s like they’re born knowing what and who they are. The oldest souls among us. I was one of the former; casting about for many, many years, trying to understand what could fire and hold my interest, keep me engaged for the long haul.

Thankfully, I did find it in writing. I released my first book in 2015, and today, I have eleven books published in my Zodiac Assassins series, the first draft of book twelve is done, with fourteen more books to write for this series. In addition I have so many other plans for trilogies and graphic novels and middle grade books…I’ll be writing books until I can no longer string words together.

For those of you still casting about, here are some thoughts about finding your passion I’ve gleaned from the many articles I’ve read over the years.

1. Only you can decide whether you’re “good enough” to do something.

Everyone was a beginner once; it’s never too late to start. Give it a go and if you discover that’s not the right passion, try something else.

2. Be patient.

You have an entire life to pursue your passion; things don’t have to happen right away. You will try, you will fail, you will get back up and try again. The only true failure is if you never try.

3. Don’t get so caught up in your passion that you neglect the other important areas of your life.

Fiery passion can push us to incredible heights, but with the fiery can come consumption, destruction. Incorporate what you love into your daily life, so you’re well rounded, grounded in every aspect of what makes a life precious.

4. Ask for help from people have gone through what you are.

There is a vast amount of knowledge and experience out there, in every field. Don’t be afraid to reach out to those you respect. There are few who wouldn’t help, and far more who are delighted to give a fellow creative a hand up. And when the time comes, pay it forward.

5. When you’re at your lowest moment, you’re near a huge breakthrough—even if it’s not the one you expected.

I’ve been stripped bare by life, and as painful as that crucible was, I came out of it stronger, with a greater appreciation for who I was and what I was able to weather. When it comes to your passion, unless you’re absolutely sure it’s time to make a change, keep pushing. Take a deep breath and try again, and again, and again.

6. Appreciate how amazing it is that you even have an opportunity to pursue a passion.

Life may be long, but it’s also incredibly short. Make your days could, whatever that means to you. Driving hard one day then slower the next. Set the pace you can sustain and understand how precious it is that you have tapped into a passion that fills your soul, that stimulates your mind.

7. Never, ever give up.

This one is the most important. It’s no secret you will be pulled in many directions over the years. Family, careers outside of your passion, joy and pain and sorrow, they’re all are parts of the canvas of a life well-lived. But it’s your passion that will bring an extra richness to your life, give it scope. Like I said above, unless you have come to a point that you realize you need to seek another passion, never let go of what you love. I’m thrilled for those who find it early. I didn’t and it was a struggle to find joy in everyday things.

But I did find my passion and I will spend my remaining years writing the best stories I can, even if I’m not financially rewarded for them. Why? Because when the day comes and my life ends, I want to have few regrets. I want to have traveled in the worlds I created, shared joy and heartache, experienced life and death with my characters. I want to have had readers join me in the wonder of my creation.

Give the world a piece of myself so I am never truly gone.

Thank you to all of you who read my posts and liked them. Pursue your passion, and may your words flow freely,

Artemis

Live it Up

Life is short. I feel like I am making myself old just by stating this as I remember hearing my parents and adults around me saying this, as I grew up. Still, I’d like to think of myself as wise instead of simply old. As a result of my job, I talk to lots of people every single day, and I’ve met plenty of people who are numerous in years, but not necessarily in with them. As such, I’ll take what I can get.

Again, as a result of my job, I spend a lot of time talking to folks about their goals in life. A lot of us know that we need to make it from day today. If we are lucky enough to live longer and grow old, then we know that we need to plan for that future.

This world can be a beautiful one, but it can also be a difficult one, and it’s highly unlikely that anyone is going to take care of our future for us. Still, I rarely meet people who truly know what they want to do with their time in the future. Yes, it is good to be present in the moment-we often times don’t do this enough-but it is also important to make plans. Nobody plans to simply exist, because if we did life might feel somewhat meaningless.

And yet, some days, we find it difficult to see past the day, or even in the week, especially if we’re dealing with some hard times.
where am I going with this? The lesson of today is to be present in the moment, but also not to let the future pass you by. Life is short so we need to live it up and plan for the hopes and dreams of tomorrow.

happy writing this week!

A Heart Felt Paranormal-Scope

St. Valentine’s Day is named for the real St. Valentine though there is some argument on the exact day of his death and burial. St. Valentine is the patron saint for Termi, Italy, of beekeepers engaged and married couples, and for those that suffer from epilepsy or the plague. So in his honor, let’s look at the paranormal creatures and beings associated with love.

While I am not qualified to read either stars or planets I am intimately linked to the paranormal in the world in many ways. So are you.

The paranormal-scope is for entertainment and is not meant to guide your life.

Aries:
Xochiquetzal was an Aztec goddess of love. She also had more than one husband. You might find yourself conflicted between two choices at this time. Carefully choose.

Taurus:
Clíodhna was the Irish goddess of love. She actually left the world of the gods to be with her true love who was mortal. A decision on moving may be coming up.

Gemini:
Hathor, the goddess of love in ancient Egypt, was enormously popular with the people. In addition, she ruled over beauty, mining, and music. You might have too much on your plate. Prioritize. Even if you have to make a list.

Cancer:
In Greek Mythology, Eros, was also known in Rome as Cupid. Love was the family business as his mom was Aphrodite (Venus in Rome). Get involved with those you love. Have some fun times.

Leo:
Rati is the Hindu Goddess of Desire. What is it that you desire? Make a goal plan to accomplish that.

Virgo:
Oshun is the goddess of love and beauty for her followers in the Yoruba religion in West Africa. She represents purity and fresh water and protects women and children. Spring cleaning is around the corner. Why not start early!

Libra
Hymen is the Greek God of marriage because he managed to have a successful one. Anything worth having requires hard work. This is true in careers and relationships. What are you working toward?

Scorpio:
Sirens are misunderstood. They just want someone to love them. Listen to people and avoid conclusions until you’ve heard the whole story.

Sagittarius:
In Chinese mythology, Yue Lao is considered the ultimate matchmaker. Sometimes you just need advice from someone older or more experienced.

Capricorn:
Freyja is the Norse goddess of love. She is also known to have a bad temper. Trend lightly this week and avoid offending anyone. Stay in everyone’s good graces if you can.

Aquarius:
Yetis appeared mysterious and treasuring solitude, but among the loves they love, they are cuddly. Solitude and self-reflection can give you a chance to recharge. Spa day!

Pisces:
The Werewolf can be a furry bundle of love within the pack. Arrange an outing or get-together for your pack. Love is in the air!

Enjoy life and be safe.

Life &Writing Tools: Dream A Little Dream By Susan Hanniford Crowley

Today’s dream photo is courtesy of Photographer Johannes Plenio on Unsplash

There are many authors myself included that dream of their books before they write them. Being aware of your dreams is not only a writing tool but a life tool as well.

Dreams teach us things. Sometimes they are just for letting off steam. Often we will try out things we want to do.Remember the past. Sometimes seeing an important detail we forgot.Dream of possible futures.Learn things. Restudy things. When I was in college, I would read a chapter from a textbook, then go immediately to sleep. Those words were the last my mind saw in the waking world. My mind would restudy throughout the night. I still got a good night’s sleep. How did I do in college with my waking studying plus dream studying? I did very well.

The trick is in capturing your dreams. Just how do you do that? The most important part of remembering a dream is to create a habit of waking up in bed and reaching for your method of recording your dream from the nightstand. Do it right away. Do nothing until you have it down. Then leave your bed and do your morning routine.

Wake up and talk into a recorder. You may only get pieces of the dream or dreams. Very handy for people who are musicians or studying music. Some people enjoy drawing the dream. Keep a sketchbook or pad and pens or colored pencils on the nightstand. Artists love this method. Children also find this fun. Keep a notepad or journal on the nightstand. Start writing as soon as you sit up in bed. I do this to write books.

Why do this before my morning shower or coffee? Because when you wake and sit up in bed, your brain is still engaged with the dream before waking. This gives you the best opportunity to remember it.

Why do I do this every morning? Because in creating a habit of recording your dream, you will discover that you remember more of it. You may discover that you are starting to remember several dreams.

How does remembering dreams improve your life?

Dreams can be nonsense dreams that you use to let off steam. Write them down anyway. You could be writing the next Alice in Wonderland. Some people have dreams that let them look at their life more closely and give them insights and guidance into what to do in their waking life.A few people have prophetic dreams. Dreams can be a way of exploring places and things you may not be able to get to in your waking life. These dreams can be inspirations for the things you will do or the places you will see.Dreams can be a window into a memory you cherish that can keep you strong in bad times. Dreams can be a comfort when you’re having a tough time in life. They can make you feel loved, strong, brave, satisfied, and secure in yourself.

Many authors including myself have said that their books come out of their dreams.

When though there are reams I could say about dreams helping people, I realize that there are people who don’t remember their dreams. Next week: Life & Writing Tools: What If I Don’t Have Dreams?

Stay safe and well, my friends! Keep warm.

Truly,

Susan
