When Love Survives By Susan Hanniford Crowley

This week I celebrate my first published book in paranormal romance. It happened way back when. As I’ve said before, I write what I dream and I actually wrote this book years after September 11th.

When Love Survives is centered around the darkest day in New York City. People from all walks of life helped other people. In my book, some happened to be paranormal beings.

Here’s an excerpt:

“I’m late!” Reggie stared at the alarm clock. “I can’t believe this is happening to me!” Pulling her wet, red hair into a sophisticated bun, she ran down the stairs of her apartment building. She never liked her hair.

The postman slipped the mail into the boxes. “Hey you, Regina O’Malley?”

She stopped. Crap! I’m going to lose the best internship in the city and maybe a chance of a great job when I graduate. “Yes.”

He handed her an envelope from Alaska. Read Immediately was written in large letters, so she ripped it open.

Dear Reggie,

We can’t get through on your cell, and your father and I have been worried sick. We’re sending our love and protection. We’ve held off telling you this, but it’s time you know. Remember how you always made a joke that your father was a leprechaun and your mother an elf? Well, sweetheart, I hope you’re sitting down, because it’s true. Call us as soon as you can. We have a lot to tell you. We love you, and please, be careful.

Mom’s letters were always strange but this one took the cake. If what her mother said was true, it explained all the weirdness in Reggie’s life. Giggling nervously, as she usually did to cope, she folded up the letter and put it in her pocket before rushing out the door.

Damn! The bus is at the corner. Reggie ran. It pulled away from the curb into traffic. She screamed, but it didn’t stop. Why would it? The city drowned out her screams. That was life in New York. You screamed and mostly people didn’t notice. Exasperated, she looked at her watch. Damn, I want that job.  She flagged a cab.

The cost from Brooklyn to Manhattan would be a mint, but an internship with a good brokerage house was worth its weight in gold. Reggie tried to think happy thoughts. That’s what her mom had taught her. And when she got home, she’d have to find that cell phone.

The ride was nerve-wracking. Her mind kept dwelling on things she couldn’t change. She thought the pale gray suit would make the best impression. Maybe she should have worn the pink, low-cut crepe blouse instead and not this blue, silk one. Reggie lifted her fingers to her mouth and immediately put them down again. The last thing she wanted to do was waste a perfect manicure. Oh, God, Mr. Holmut is going to be so angry. Her academic advisor at NYU had worked hard getting this paid internship for her.

The cab stopped and it wasn’t for a light. They were in Manhattan. Reggie looked around to see if she could figure out her location. The World Trade Center was only four blocks around that corner at the most. After paying the man, she leaped out of the cab.

She was almost there, pausing only to catch her breath in front of the coffee shop before the corner. A tall man opened the door, pulled her inside, and shut the door behind her.

A Light Snow Paranormal-Scope

I had only light snow like confectioner’s sugar on a cake. It was gone in a few hours. But we are still in winter, so I make no assumptions. Making no assumptions is a good rule to live by. Things have a habit of changing, especially the weather.

While I am not qualified to read either stars or planets I am intimately linked to the paranormal in the world in many ways. So are you.

Elves get passionate about projects. They gather those around them that will help. Do you have a project you’ve been dying to do? This is the time to get started.

Shapeshifters enjoy the connections they have with others. The winds have shifted. Reinforce your current connections and make some new ones.

Cancer:
Werewolves keep something private to only the pack. Be clear about what is private about your life and what is public.

Leo:
Vampires are open to new experiences. New opportunities to try things you never have will come your way. You have lots of choices.

Virgo:
Gnomes are usually homebodies. It’s rare they take a vacation. But for you, this is the perfect time to start planning a trip.

Libra
Pixies are always in a rush. Slow yourself down to enjoy life more. Make some time to reflect on what you have that you love.

Scorpio:
Faeries love to have fun! New opportunities are revealing themselves, which may bring more fun into your life.

Sagittarius:
Dragons like to spend time getting to know others more fully. They have very successful relationships. When you meet new people, take the time.

Capricorn:
The Phoenix soars as your creativity expands. Indulge your hobbies or art form. Dream big!

Aquarius:
Zombies are walking down your street. Stay home and pamper yourself.

Happy Birthday By Susan Hanniford Crowley

This past week was my birthday. I got flowers on one day and presents on two other days! I got to visit with my grandchildren. They sang “Happy Birthday” to me via Facebook and again in person.

Experiencing life is the best way to live it and write about it too. Small things give me huge joy.

Thank you to everyone who wished me “Happy Birthday” this week. Thank you to my family and friends who never fail to make me smile and often laugh. I was reading that laughing is very healthy for you.

I enjoy the sweetness that life has to offer. I hope you find that too, even when things are hard, especially so. That sweetness, that joy, holds us together and inspires us.

I think I’ll go write a book now. If you have a birthday happening or coming up, “Happy Birthday” to you.

For The Love Of…Your Safety Net by Artemis Crow

I had a recent health scare, one that I found out today was not a problem after all. *relieved* But I had to wait for two weeks before the diagnostics that proved I was fine. To say it put a damper on my holidays is putting it mildly, but I did have one recurring thought while waiting.

Hold tight to your safety net. That person, or people who you’ve always helped when they’ve fallen? Let them pick you up, dust you off and hold tight to you when you stumble. It doesn’t matter if it’s your health or your emotions, let the people closest to you help you when you need them.

It’s easy for me to square my shoulders and carry on as if nothing matters, telling myself that this, whatever it is, will not get me down. But caring for others is supposed to be a two-way street. When you help, allow yourself to be helped. When you give, don’t be afraid to take.

I believe by reaching out a hand and asking for comfort, you’re honoring the friendship, the love that has been fostered. If you only give, and never ask anything of that person, what are you saying about your love for them? Your relationship?

I hope you had a lovely holiday surrounded by your safety net. Cherish them…

I know some of you are going partying. Don’t forget to take pictures as long as they aren’t embarrassing! I used to party. I still have the rhinestone pin a gal pal gave me as a party favor at her house. What fun!

When my town had its bicentennial celebration on New Year’s Eve, we welcomed the New Year in with a great dinner and then dancing, dancing, dancing. I don’t think I’ve ever danced as much as that night.

I also enjoy staying home and hugging my husband. When my daughters were little, they would try to stay awake until the ball fell in Times Square in New York City. A lot of times, they fell asleep. Now I struggle to stay away.

In whatever way you celebrate, have fun. Cherish the moments. Life is a fascinating journey.

The Last 2022 Paranormal-Scope

2022 is coming to a close. I’m still trying to get everything done. I shouldn’t hurry. I’ll just make a to-do list and maybe get a 2023 planner. May your wishes in the New Year come true and you manage to keep close or at least in touch with those that make you happy.

Mermaids have to the ability to ride out storms. They also know where to get help when they need it. Go to someone you trust to get help on a matter that’s been bothering you.

Shapeshifters understand change. Don’t sign contract or make permanent decisions now. Wait to see things more clearing in the coming year.

Leo:
Elves are expert at setting goals. You will find some goal-setting friends to encourage you.

Virgo:
Werewolves love the game of life or the journey as some say. Take it a day at a time, and cherish all the best times with those close to you.

Libra
Pixies may be tough to deal with but they do respect their elders and love traditions. Indulge in a family tradition or create a new one of your own.

Scorpio:
Gnomes are always cheerful. Sometimes they grumble. Just remember to put any hard feelings aside before Midnight of the the last day of 2022. Start the new year fresh.

Sagittarius:
Faeries set their eyes on riches sometimes. But they plan for it. If interested in improving your finances, start budgeting now and planning what you want to attain.

Capricorn:
A luck dragon comes to take you to the heights so you remember what you are working toward. Be patient and stay focused on your dream.

Aquarius:
The tears of a phoenix heals. Sometimes you have to let go of things and move on. New opportunities will fill you with wonder.

Pisces:
A centaur comes out of the wilderness with a gift for you. They do leave gifts in odd places, and sometimes the gift itself is odd. Celebrate gifts of love with family or friends.

Merry Christmas!

May kindness reign. I say kindness because, in the rush of cars cutting off cars, I also saw a person rush to help an older person that fell on the sidewalk. Thinking of others and helping is a very wonderful gift.

Enough Gloom

We are a couple weeks away or less from this year’s ending, end it seems that everywhere I go someone is talking about how terrible 2023 is going to be. They could be right, I mean, the last few years have certainly had people jaded. But what if they’re wrong? And what good does it do to write a year off so quickly, without having experienced it?

sure 2023 could be a year of recessions, slower, gross, continued war and conflict in many parts of our world and the worlds push to move past Covid. Who knows? But in either case, there is always a silver lining. Yes this is the optimist in me speaking but if everything is so doom and gloom, we do we all continue forward? Part of it may be that we aren’t sure what else to do, but the other part may be that we all hold a bit of hope that our negative thoughts won’t come to fruition.

The other part of all the gloomy thinking is what if that just makes it worse? I’m a believer in that we all have a hand in our on fate and thinking about the worst outcome will only assure its occurrence. Still, that’s just my opinion so who knows. Still, I’m sending you all well wishes and positive thoughts as we march towards 2023.

Please, Don’t Eat the Tree! Paranormal-Scope

Tis the season of eating things that aren’t good for us! Eating the Christmas tree is a case in point. Last year she earned a visit to the vet due to an infected mouth by biting down on plastic pine needles.

Elves understand that a little sweetness goes a long way. Now is the time to be the best you.

Mermaids float off when sick. Find a warm comfortable place to be even if you’re not sick, and spend a few days.

Pixies huddle and cuddle with those they love when the weather turns frosty. Do the same.

Cancer:
Vampires have watched the passing of many a year. Focus on getting work done, and look forward to the coming year.

Leo:
Werewolves get excited and try to do too much. Take everything one step at a time. Make lists and cross off what you’ve done.

Virgo:
Shapeshifters love hobbies. Spend some time indulging in your hobby or find a new one.

Libra
Dragons are consumed with decorating inside their homes to create a happy warmth. Do the same. Small touches count.

Scorpio:
Faeries start celebrating on the 21st by inviting woodland creatures and other magical friends. Plan a get-together of your own.

Sagittarius:
