Life Tools: Making Life Cozy, Part 1 By Susan Hanniford Crowley

Lately in a lot of the United States of America, life has gotten a lot harder because of weather: tornadoes, torrential rains that break dams and wash away roads, blizzards, ice storms, and winds that take down lines. I’m sure I’m missing something. If you can think of it please mention it in the comment box.

The important thing to do after all the emergency tasks are done is to make your sanctuary cozy. You’re going to be there for a while. Worrying makes things worse. Consider staying in your safe place and resting. Here are a few ideas.

Things to do if you like (some you can do without having power)
1. Writing either on a computer or in a journal. I usually write my books in a journal first and then type it into the computer.
2. Knitting
3. Crocheting
4. Baking cookies, breads, pies, cakes
5. Quilting
6. Sewing
7. Make a fireplace stew or soup if you have a fireplace cooking crane
8. Make S’mores
9. Tell stories as you sit by the fire
10. Read books by ebook reader or booklights on paperback books
11. Sketching and drawing
12. Napping or just sleep
13. Play with pets
14. Play cards or board games

Since we are in the season of harsh weather, I will be doing a Part 2 if Making Life Cozy next week.

Remember, please, don’t go out during the worst weather unless you have no choice. Stay home, be safe, and cozy.

Sweetly Warm Paranormal-Scope

When it’s freezing cold, sometimes you just need sunny warmth. So close your eyes a minute or two and take in that picture! Rejuvenate with your thoughts. I wonder what the paranormal folks are up to?

While I am not qualified to read either stars or planets, I am intimately linked to the paranormal in the world in many ways. So are you.

The paranormal-scope is for entertainment and is not meant to guide your life.

Aries:
Mermaids swim deep to create relationships. Go the extra mile for those you care about. The goal is a sunny smile.

Taurus:
Werewolves howl when passions are alive! Do what you love! Go for a goal! The year is young.

Gemini:
Gnomes are out gathering more firewood. I think that means more cold in our future. Prepare your home for storms. Keep well supplied.

Cancer:
Werepugs are getting all the best toys this week. It is looking like a better than average week after all. Still, be cautious and kind when speaking with others. With a werepug, just throw a bone!

Leo:
Elves shine a light on those they love and cherish what they have and accomplished. Do the same. Don’t compare yourself to others.

Virgo:
Centaurs love to run in the surf when no one’s around. Fun is coming towards you. Don’t run away.

Libra
Shapeshifters move with how they feel. Even though it’s cold outside, they are still making repairs to their home. Consider doing the same.

Scorpio:
Fauns play in a snowy meadow secluded from the world. This is a good idea for you too. Avoid social media where you can and concentrate on making a wonderful real life.

Sagittarius:
Goblins are great money counters. Put together a budget to pay off those holiday bills. You will feel better afterwards.

Capricorn:
A Dragon soar into the future. Neither should you. 2024 is a new beginning for you. If something from the past gets you down, pick yourself up and go forward.

Aquarius:
Pixies find winter and summer are healing times. The warm beach calms the spinning mind. The snow slows the rushing around calms the heart. Use this time for rejuvenation and relaxing.

Pisces:
Faeries are gifted speakers. When talking with others, use your sunny smile. Your warmth will warm their hearts.

Enjoy the snow, if you love it. Or close your eyes and let the image of a warm summer beach make you smile.

Are You Ready for A Blizzard? By Susan Hanniford Crowley

Let’s go over what we need to be ready for a snowstorm that could be dangerous. We want to be safe and survive. Here’s a list!

Before the Blizzard Strikes!
1. Go to the supermarket and buy food especially non-perishables and things that don’t require cooking.
2. Charge up all your devices-phones, e-readers, etc.
3. Arrange for your heat source.
4. Get batteries for those devices like flashlights, radios, and camp lanterns (I love the battery ones).
5. Go to the pharmacy for any refills of medications.
6. Get pet food.
7. Pull out warm clothes and blankets.
8. Get jugs of water in case you lose power. Get enough for drinking and also for flushing your toilet. Read this about what to do in this case: https://www.familyhandyman.com/article/flush-toilet-during-power-outage/
9. Check to see where to park your car if you are affected by a parking ban
10. Make sure you car has gas. “One of the most common adages is keeping a car’s fuel tank at least half full during those extreme periods, AAA says.”

During the Blizzard!
1. Stay home. Be committed to not going anywhere. Driving in a snowstorm is dangerous.
2. Watch TV unless your power goes out.
3. If you lose power, read. Play board or card games. Listen to music. Read a book on an e-reader.
4. Don’t go out in a blizzard!

If you are in the snow zone like I am, be safe and stay home.

First 2024 Paranormal-Scope

It’s the beginning of the New Year, so let’s have fun. I will be referencing creatures from the book is Legendary Creatures. Unleash the Beasts!: created by Basher and written by Mary Budzik.

While I am not qualified to read either stars or planets, I am intimately linked to the paranormal in the world in many ways. So are you.

Aries:
The Basilisk is hard to cuddle up to being dangerous. Be wary of strangers and to good to be true opportunities regarding money.

Taurus:
Impundulu is a thunder bird that lives in South Africa. Weather may become an issue for you in the near future. Dress for the weather.

Gemini:
Garuda is the national symbol of Thailand and is half-man and half-bird. He is a defender of the good. Good things are coming your way.

Cancer:
The Longma lives in China and is half-horse and half-dragon. The story goes a Longma inspired Chinese calligraphy. Visit a museaum and learn some new things. Widen your world knowledge.

Leo:
The Simurgh is a giant bird from Persian mythology. Its powerful wings spreads seeds to make plants around the world.

Virgo:
Alkonost is a bird with a woman’s head and lives in Russia. She likes to sing in orchards. Consider adding more fruit to your diet.

Libra
The Phoenix rises from the ashes and reborn to soar the heights. Even if you’ve been through the hardest times, you will have the chance to soar.

Scorpio:
The Thunderbird is part of North American mythology. It brings the rain for crops! Before you go on a great adventure, check your budget.

Sagittarius:
The Alicanto is the mysterious night bird of Chile. It can lead a good person to riches or leave a greedy person to wander the desert. Still, don’t get involved with a get rick quick scheme.

Capricorn:
A Dragon has become fond of you and will inspire you as long as you stay the course and give yourself time to heal from the past year. Build healing time into your busy schedule.

Aquarius:
The Firebird is from Russian lore. The fiery brightness of its feathers can lead the hero through a fierce snowstorm. Life has been like a snowstorm, but you’ll see a light to lead you.

Pisces:
The Oozlum bird is brightly colored and from the mythology of Great Britain and Australia. They can fly backwards for fun. Do some things you feel are fun!

Christmas Paranormal-Scope

Happy and Merry Christmas! I received a book on paranormal creatures as a gift. Some I know. Many I didn’t, so let’s have some fun. The book is Legendary Creatures. Unleash the Beasts!: created by Basher and written by Mary Budzik.

The Mokele-mbembe is a cousin of the Loch Ness and lives in rivers in the Congo. He/she prefers to eat plants and leads a quiet life. After all the festivities, take a nap. You’re worth it.

Taurus:
A Kappa of Japan looks like half-monkey and half-turtle. He/she will bring you good luck if you give it cucumbers. Consider adding a cucumber to your salads.

Gemini:
The Naga from India is a guardian spirit that protects sacred & natural places. Use the week before the New Year to clean and declutter. Make your home a sacred place.

Cancer:
The Bunyip loves swamps in Australia. When you see one, you won’t be able to describe it to others. That’s its power. If you can’t describe something, either research it or let it go. lol

Leo:
The Hippocamp is half-horse and half-fish. They are loved by the sea god Poseidon. They are very attractive and keep well-groomed. It might be time for a new hairstyle and clothes.

Virgo:
The Kraken loves the cold northern waters. Currently, he/she is napping before going on a trip. If you have time, you might want to plan a trip too.

Libra
Nessie enjoys playing Hide and Seek in Loch Ness. You’ve been hiding your talent. It’s time to soar in the New Year.

Scorpio:
Mermaids are headed for warmer weather, so they can sit on a rock and comb their hair. If you live in the snow zone, plan a trip to see something new instead of Yeti.

Sagittarius:
Qalupalik lives in the Arctic. Children run home in fear of her. For the children, it’s a way of keeping them safe. But fear might be stopping you from doing new things. Something to consider.

Capricorn:
The Mishipeshu lives in Lake Superior and looks like a panther. Well, sort of. What do we learn from this? Don’t go swimming in icy water known for dangerous undertows and wrecking ships.

Aquarius:
The Kopakonan of the Faroe Islands are similar to the Selkies of Ireland. Sometimes they are human and sometimes seals. We all have two sides: the homebody and the adventurer. Go ahead and dance on the beach, but keep to the sand.

Pisces:
The Encantado lives in the Amazon River and is sometimes a man and sometimes a dolphin. He loves to party. Take in a party or two, but beware who you go home with.

Season of Giving

What does this season truly mean for you? This is a question that I ask myself and my kids each year. Besides the obvious celebration of Christ’s birth, to me the season has evolved over time to be one of more giving and care. It wasn’t always like this. I was once a kid more concerned about what I was getting versus what I was giving. Somehow that has changed and the giving has become more rewarding.

I try to instill this feeling in my own kids but they are still young so it is somewhat hit or miss. They are absolutely excited about presents but we’ve also done some volunteering this season and come to realize that not everyone is so fortunate around the holidays (or otherwise).

This season overall can mean a lot of things for many folks— it means family, friends, good food and drink, giving and hope and so much more. Whatever this season means to you, make the most of it and give others your best. Be kind even when it is hard and lend a hand when you can. It can all sound corny but your good deeds are repaid threefold— you’ll see.

Dark Days December Paranormal-Scope

The Winter Solstice also known as the year’s shortest day and longest night is the official start of winter. So on December 21, 2023, hunker down with blankets and hot cocoa and enjoy the night.

While I am not qualified to read either stars or planets, I am intimately linked to the paranormal in the world in many ways. So are you.

The paranormal-scope is for entertainment and is not meant to guide your life.

Aries:
A vampire opens his umbrella and walks down the street. Prepare for the storms coming your way.

Taurus:
A werewolf may howl when irritated. It’s best to give those folks a wide berth.

Gemini:
Shapeshifters love the holidays but they keep changing their mind on things. It’s best just to be patient and wait for a final decision.

Cancer:
Were pugs look so cute with a Santa hat on. You could do wearing a little holiday sweater or something you consider fun.

Leo:
Mermaids are entranced with the singing and move closer to shore to hear better. They slip away into deeper water when the performances are done and have sweet dreams. Enjoy the festivites of the holidays.

Virgo:
Ghosts sometimes wander in their old happy places just to remember. Don’t let memories haunt you. Make new ones.

Libra
Unicorns walk down your street trotting to the rhythm of a song they remember. Add some holiday music to your collection.

Scorpio:
Dragons are wonderful creatures. Make new friends and they may show you a different view of the world.

Sagittarius:
Elves are spinning designs in the snow. The coming of winter inspired them in art, music, and literature. Indulge in a former hobby just for fun.

Capricorn:
Sprites love running. Stop rushing about and slow down. Make lists when you get overwhelmed. Cross off items as they are accomplished.

Aquarius:
Faeries enjoy cooking. Get a new cookbook and try out some new recipes.

Pisces:
Tis the season for gnomes. They are homebodies and love everything having to do with making a home cozy, entertaining friends and/or family, and just being happy when cold winds blow. Make your home cozy.
