If someone wants to be a good writer, however, my advice is to read, both the books in your genre and books about writing/editing. Reading gives you a sense of the flow of words, a feel for story, and knowledge of what's out there. (So often, new writers come up with what they think is an innovative idea but is actually similar to a thousand other stories. If they read, they would know how trite their plot line is and would then be able to figure out how to twist their story to make it irresistible.)(less)

Revenge of the Roses

I’ve been having a different sort of adventure lately — gardening. Or I should say, trying to garden. My next-door neighbor let me transplant a few of his lovely purple spikes. He couldn’t remember the name, just that he had some seeds he’d tossed about his yard a few years ago. Such a hardy plant!

I also transplanted some vinca that I found in my yard. They were growing near the...

Rubicon Ranch: A Collaboration by authors of Second Wind Publishing -- (Mystery & Thrillers)
1 chapters   —   updated May 13, 2015 06:30PM
Description: Rubicon Ranch is a collaborative novel being written by Second Wind authors. One chapter will be posted each week at the Rubicon Ranch site http://rubiconranch.wordpress.com, but I'm giving you a sneak preview here. Ah, heck -- I'll post the entire first chapter. If you wish to be notified when a new chapter is posted, go to the site and subscribe. I'd give you a clue as to who committed the murder (if it is a murder) but no one knows, not even the authors, since we are posting the book as we write it. When the entire cast of suspects and all the evidence has been posted, you can even tell us who you'd like the killer to be. I hope you will join in the fun!

Pat Bertram is reading Vicious Circle: Indescribably horrible. I loved River God and Seventh Scroll and enjoyed almost everything else, but this is a badly written, perverted story. Like everyone else, I have a hard time believing he wrote this crap. I've marked the book finished, but I will never finish it.
