I'm a novelist and playwright, whose work focuses on the history and eccentricity of the American South. My novel ONLY CHARLOTTE is set in 1880's New Orleans; WOMEN OF MAGDALENE is set in a post-Civil War ladies' lunatic asylum; WHAT REMAINS is an historical mystery set on a rundown plantation, and JULIETTE ASCENDING is a young adult historical set during Mardi Gras. My plays have been produced in the United States and Europe, and include MOSSY CAPE, based on Southern folklore; THE LITTLE DEATH, set in 19th century New Orleans; and THE FAMILIAR, a ghost story. ...more

John You really do well with dialogue, so it was a pleasure to follow the action on stage! As I said, I feel a bit smug having seen all three productions.

Ed Rambeau Thanks for accepting my friend request, Rosemary. You seem like an interesting person, as I see you're an author yourself, so feel free to tell me more about yourself and perhaps we can grow to become even greater friends. I, myself, am a singer/songwriter/actor who has recently turned author. My 2 top ten recordings were CONCRETE & CLAY (as a singer) and NAVY BLUE (as a writer)...both in the early 1960's. My first novel is an unusual murder mystery entitled: FORBIDDEN STEPS.

Regards, and have a great day, Ed

Morality Play and Sacred Hunger are two of my all-time favorites. And years ago, I had the pleasure of meeting Barry Unsworth and his wife at the Tennessee Williams Literary Festival, where he gave a Master Class. He was a charmer!

Courtney Rosemary,
I just finished Atonement and loved it! It started slow but by the end I couldn't put it down. The last part was heartbreaking. Thanks for the recommendation.

Abdurahman
Hi Rosemary, nice to meet you here and thx for being my friend ;)

message 32: by Robert

Robert Well thank you for writing such a wonderful story! In my travels I do my best to keep up with tales about women through the ages -- especially those regarding class inequalities in modern history. Yours was not only amazingly written but it seemed to me a unique contribution -- one that enriched my thought and subjective experience.

Luthiel's Song is quite a lot of fun! But it's more than that to me as I'm writing what I feel is a feminine heroic epic inspired by the strong women in my life. So it's a mission too.

And yes, visiting Middle Schools is pretty amazing. The students are fantastic! Lots of work, though. I usually need at least a week to recover from a book tour. Speaking to so many people is like having jumper cables attached to your ears. Hmm. Looking at your schedule I think you might understand where I'm coming from.

message 31: by Robert

Robert You are very kind! Just so you know, I absolutely loved your book -- "The Women of Magdalene." Fantastic. Keep the torches lit :).
