Hunkering down

It looks like a whopping mondo blizzard is headed my way. Seeing as how I grew up in Buffalo where we got up to 8 feet of snow at times, it's pretty hard to impress me with snowfall. But Wisconsin has declared a state of emergency and most of Madison is shut down tomorrow, which is when most of the snow is supposed to hit.

I was just hoping I'd get to use a sick day Thursday instead of going in to the day job ;-)

My guy's company is closed tomorrow, so we'll just stay in bed, read books and dri...

I'd love for Hemovore's cover to win the Rainbow Awards!

Okay, it's the big week, the final round for the cover popularity contest at Elisa Rolle's Rainbow Awards.

The main thing that I love about Kanaxa's cover for Hemovore is that it conveyed the essence of the book so well. It's more of a thriller than a romance, and the Hemovore cover definitely screams out "thriller!" When I had originally submitted my art requests, I added links to John Saul books with the suggestion that something like that might be cool. And I was totally floored by the way ...

PsyCop Ideas?

Thinking about doing a PsyCop freebie in December, like Thaw and Mind Reader, maybe 500-1500 words. Any ideas?

New computer, hooray

I got my new office computer today and I'm so excited about it. The desktop it's replacing was a mass of wires that looked like Big Brother had been disemboweled all over the room. I now have a cute refurbished HP NC6220 that has a slightly bigger screen than my old laptop and is both thinner and lighter, and a bit faster. (Whoops, this pic is really big. Sorry.) And very few wires, just the power cable and the external speakers for playing iTunes.

I was transferring my documents on a USB driv...

Hemovore up for voting again

It's that time again! How awesome to see Hemovore among the finalists of the Rainbow Awards cover art contest!

You can vote here.

I remember when I first got the roughs for this how blown away I was at Kanaxa's use of blur to imply motion. (I would guess multiple kinds of blur, at that. Photoshop has a whole menu of different blurs.) I haven't been brave enough to incorporate artistic blur into my own cover art quite yet...but don't be surprised if you see it crop up in a future PsyCop cover.

Spreadin' the PsyCop

I've been kicked out of the bedroom where I've been formatting ebooks all day. I think that's probably for the best. There is a saturation point with these tasks and undoubtedly I've hit it. Which is not why I've been kicked out. My guy wanted to play drums in there. He could care less if I format ebooks for 20 hours straight.

We really need a rec room. (I can just see it. An old couch. Drum set. TV and Wii. And how about a treadmill.) Maybe next year we can get a house.

As a result of all my f...

The L word

So I am reading White is for Witching. Cool Title. Cool cover. And yet I'm feeling a healthy dose of "huh?" as I read. I'm not one to read the cover copy of a library book. If there's something I like about it, I grab it and start right in. I'm assured of no spoilers that way. But the review quote from the back, "Helen Oyeyemi is a startling literary prodigy," from the Washington Post offers a clue as to my "huh?"ness.

I think it's that pesky "literary" thing.

I'm a fairly close reader, but I n...

I love the Hemovore cover this much...

On principle, I don't promote voting for my titles in popularity contest type awards. But since this cover is not artwork of my own creation, and because I loved it so much I showed up for my day job crying over how cool it is, and because Kanaxa went through all my websites to get a feel for my style to ensure she created something I would love, I'm gonna put on my pimping hat for this one.

Looking at the rules, it seems like you'd have to vote week after week for this. If you have an LJ acco...

Poor Gullible Darling...

We were playing Wii bowling and Frankie seemed so excited. I finally realized he thought we were throwing toys for him and then wondering where they landed.

Debating: Wii icon vs Frankie icon. The kitty is cuter.
