Zero Hour cutting room floor

I'm doing a lot of throwing away of writing lately. What a pain...though I guess there's nothing to be done if that's what it takes to get to the part that does feel right, the part that you do keep.

This clip felt self-contained, so I'll post it here.

Hurrying entailed a lot more running, and then a frantic flinging of branches and a cautious relocation of a stinking pile of remains that Will speculated may once have been either a pit bull or a coyote. “I suppose we could tell them there...

Dual monitor setup

The future is here!

That's what my boyfriend says whenever I do something high-tech. In this case: adding a second monitor to my art setup. I've since changed my mind and shifted the small monitor to the right, because I'm right handed and I want the small monitor to hold my menus and extras, so it makes more sense to my brain there.

I suspect I'm due for a computer upgrade soon but I want to wait another couple of years if possible, and then wipe the graphics programs off and repurpose the art...

Phlegm Stories

I've read that one of the biggest time-wasters of people (like me) who are always burning the candle at both ends is reading magazines. I totally understand that. Magazines can easily be the empty-calorie snack of the knowledge world. Unless the magazine is one that you read from cover to cover and get plenty of useful ideas from--and for me, those titles include Writer, Writer's Digest, F&SF, Photoshop User and Layers magazines--there's the possibility that they'll be like the People magazin...

Way to ruin Boxing Day, TBS

Seeing as how I was still sick yesterday (and in fact am still sick now) I spent my evening watching dumb holiday movies on cable. So there I was, in my most mindless, vulnerable state, when a commercial for the Humane Society starts playing. My boyfriend says, "Should we send them money?" And then the big mind-fuck begins.

They start flashing video of disfigured animals with huge, sad eyes and talking about how all these animals were neglected and abused. They show a cat with a fucked-up face...

A new PsyCop freebie, hooray!

My Holiday Gift to You - since so many readers voted for it, a story from Jacob's point of view!

Jacob Marks has noticed that crimes are committed whether or not he happens to have a social engagement on the agenda. Date another PsyCop, and the likelihood of having a successful night out are cut in half.

Of course Jacob feels sorry for the poor sap in the Fifth Precint who's been shot. But did he have to go and get himself offed on New Year's Eve?

What are you waiting for? Grab it!

Available free...

It's Alive

Holy cow, I haven't been this sick for this long in ages. My SO and I are both down with whatever crud we've caught, and I've been MIA since Sunday night. We've had to cancel our Christmas plans and just sleep and watch movies.

(The cats think it's wonderful. You can just see it on their little cat faces. Yay! In bed all day!)

It's weird. I haven't not-worked in 4 days for years. Now I'm jonesing to do something. Funny, in between delirious fever dreams and tossing and turning, I thought about ...

December JCP News

It's newsletter time! This month I've got a fun PsyCop/Channeling Morpheus feature about who bought what for Christmas. Who's a good shopper? You may be surprised.

And don't miss the announcement about the latest Lanyon/Price project!

Peeps - the real kind

I was pretty stumped about what to get my dad & stepmom for Christmas this year--let's hope they're not reading this--when it occurred to me that it would be cool to buy an animal for a needy family in their name. I sifted through several charities and came up with heifer.org, which had a lot of cool options for gifting. There were affordable options (like the flock of chickens I bought) as well as "shares" toward other animals. So let's say you want to give someone a goat but you don't have ...
