Hemovore coming soon in paperback
Holy moly, the Hemovore paperback is available for pre-order at Amazon for 33% off! Looks like the release date's in about a month...kinda snuck up on me.
I posted a lot of cool stuff about Hemovore when the ebook came out last year. In case you missed it (or feel like reading it again):
Read the first chapter free at Samhain
Hemovore Under the Hood is a multiple-part writing how-to about character, exposition, location, and rich guy-poor guy.
Hemovore Cuts showcases two deleted scenes and an alt...

Packing Heat 096: Go, Flow!
Ever get so deeply into your writing that you stop checking the clock and the word count and really run with your story—then you look up and find that a chunk of time has passed without your awareness, and maybe you've even forgotten to eat? That's flow! I love flow! I highly recommend Writing in Flow by Susan Perry. It's good for flipping open to random spots and reading, though I've also read it cover-to-cover. Here's a cool 18-minute video of Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi talking about...

Packing Heat 097 - Order in the Court
Phrase Order Matters Here's a real sentence I typed in a project this morning:Bob stuffed a few bites of sandwich into his mouth and started in on removing the TV's back panel while he chewed it. Yes, we all know what it means, but because of the way in which I've ordered the phrases, the sentence could read that Bob is chewing on the TV. Check the order of your phrases for logic. Phrase order also affects impact: Yes: Because I think so highly of you, and because I know you're better than I...

Come see me!
Since I do occasionally get questions from nearby readers who'd like to come meet me:
I just got the schedule for Oddysey Con April 16-18 -- I'll be doing a panel or reading all three days. Oddysey Con is in Madison, WI, which is about 3 hours' drive from Chicago, 1.5 from Milwaukee. (Depending how fast you drive and whether or not you have a magical iPass, of course!)
Here's the website:

I'll dish some details a bit closer to the event.

Packing Heat 096: Multiples
What are some ways in which "multiples" can work for your writing?
Always have multiple submissions making the rounds if you're looking to break in to publishingDon't be afraid to write multiple stories with the same themeIf you're stuck, coax yourself back to the keyboard for multiple (and nonthreatening) 10-minute sessionsTry out a scene that's not working multiple ways

Super Cheap Glasses!
I got a new glasses prescription and decided to try out a cheap-o online place. Glasses at my local place are $20-$30 per lens, and then the frames start at $180. Or I could drive into a cheapo place in Madison and find a sale for $60 or so. But I figured just to try out the new 'scrip I'd go WAY cheap.
I got this set and I'm pleasantly surprised. The whole thing with anti-glare and shipping was under $25. They even look good. (Total crapshoot, I know. I figured they'd just be TV-watching gl...

Newsletter question
First, a quick update on the Reader's Choice poll, since I can't figure out a way to make it so you can see the results:
I asked readers to select their favorite character from a list of five, and the top two would star in the next JCP News serialized story. First of all, participation is about 20 people higher than it was in round 1 altogether, and this is after only a day and a half. Hooray!
Quiet, broken Javier de la Rosa is TIED with hardheaded Tim Foster for second place. I think if I do e...
