Daily Meditations of a Nurse Warrior

Who doesn't loved to be fussed over or receive some attention?

Even through corruption, (see Zephaniah 1:4-5), arrogance and profanity, (see 3:4), then and now, the book of Zephaniah foresees goodness. For those who truly love Him, (see 3:9-13), "He will take great delight in you; in his love he will no longer rebuke you, but will rejoice over you with singing" (3:17). How wonderful is it that someone still cares enough to fuss over us, despite such poor character, with His love and song. Might you allow Him to pay some attention to you and fuss over you with His love and wonderful voice. Now, does He have your attention? #BeSweptOffYourFeet

Decisions, decisions, decisions, how do you make them?

Decisions, even the big ones, do not have to be daunting or difficult. It is when you "in all your ways submit to him [that] he will make your paths straight" (Proverbs 3:6). So, when you are making any decision, "trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding" (3:5). Now, with Him, you can make decisive decisions with clarity and peace. #AnEasyDecision

What is causing you to be anxious?

We have a tendency to create our own anxieties, due to unnecessary worry; and when this happens, our lives and those around us feel the ill-effects. We are reminded to "not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God" (Philippians 4:6); and if you choose to do so "the peace of God...will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus" (4:7). How comforting is this. Still anxious? #SeekHisPeace & #AnxiousNoMore

Why care?

Our ability to want to care can be challenged by life, especially when things are forced upon us. As we try to navigate through these challenges, I encourage you to never stop caring, because He doesn't. The "Lord, presevere[s] both people and animals" (Psalm 36:6), as He provides "food for the cattle and for the young ravens" (147:9); and furthermore, not one sparrow will fall "to the ground outside [His] care...So don't be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows" (10:29-31). #NeverStop

Take a moment and look down toward the ground. What do you see? Hopefully, feet. Just like our eyes, ears and arms, our feet, too, also serve a purpose, a "beautiful" one. Isaiah speaks to the importance of our feet by telling us "How beautiful on the mountains are the feet of those who bring good news" (52:7). So, as you consider the importance of your feet, might you consider using them for more than just being able to get around, because they weren't just made for walking, but so much more. I hope that you will use them well and to their fullest. #WalkOnAndOnAndOn

How long are you willing to wait?

For some of us, myself included, waiting and being patient for something to happen can seem like an eternity. James encourages us to "be patient...until the Lord's coming", just like "the farmer waits for the land to yield its valuable crop, patiently waiting for the autumn and spring rains" (5:7); and while we wait, we are to "keep watch" (Matthew 24:42), stand firm in our faith (see 25:14-30) and live like He does (see Colossians 3:12). When we do so, we will reap the benefits of His promise to us. #WorthTheWait

What could cause you to not ask for help or pray?

There are times when knowing what to say and how to say it can be difficult. Even so, "The Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans" (Romans 8:26). So, might you still try; because He knows your head and heart. #PrayAnyway

How safe are you?

When life strikes against us, repeatedly, we have a tendency to want to run and hide, trying to protect ourselves from any further blows. Unfortunately, we can't hide from the world forever; but, fortunately, we have a place that we can seek refuge. Psalm reassures us that "[He is our] hiding place; and will protect [us] from trouble and surround [us] with songs of deliverance" (32:7). So, if you are in need of a safe and secure place, consider seeking Him. #MySafePlace

What makes you happy?

Very little is needed to live a happy life; and our happiness should not be determined by how much we possess. Reminding us of this is Luke. Luke says that "Life does not consist in the abundance of possessions" (12:15); and hopefully, one of those possessions is your faith in Him. So, as you go through your personal possessions, might you consider which ones are worth keeping, throwing out or acquiring. For when we know "where [our] treasure is, there [our] heart will be also" (Matthew 6:21). #PricelessPossessions

What can words of encouragement do for you or another?

Everyone could use a little encouragement, every now and then. There was a time when David needed some encouragement as well. So, "Saul's son Jonathan went to David...and helped him find strength in God" (1 Samuel 23:16). If you do not receive the encouragement that you need, consider seeking Him, as did David did with Jonathan, because He gives us "eternal encouragement and good hope" (2 Thessalonians 2:16). #BeEncouraged & #EncourageOthersToo
