Notable & Quotable

This week’s Notable and Quotable comes from one of our pen & paper RPG sessions a while back. The NPC Head Cleric (secretly evil) commands the party while pointing at a King’s knight just entering the room, ‘seize him!’ The fighter (who shall remain unnamed for the protection of the guilty) responds, ‘yeah.’ The cleric reiterates, ‘seize him!”, again pointing at the knight. The fighter responds, ‘yeah, I sees him too…. OH! seize him, not sees him, I get it.’
I hope this week’s newsletter finds you all well. It’s a bit early to announce it, but we will be giving away ebooks of Roland’s Path, Book I of the Heirs of Vanity Series, for one day and one day only on Friday, July 31st. Plan accordingly.
If you’re looking for a starter into the Bloodlines Reforged Saga, Fires that Forge and/or Roland’s Path are the starting blocks. The complete first trilogies of both are available on Amazon and can be found here; Heirs of Vanity and Lords of Order & Chaos. We have at least two more series planned (Orphan’s Blade and Templar’s Rebellion) that will go into the over all Saga. Each series is set up to stand alone, but you will find a deeper understanding of all the characters involved if you read all the series. Please consider leaving us a review on Amazon and/or Goodreads. Thanks!
I also need to let you know about USA Today bestselling author Adrienne Woods’ new book, Darkbeam. Here’s what Amazon has to say, “PLEASE NOTE THAT IT’S A DARK FANTASY AND NOT FOR YA,
Everyone in Paegeia knows that only one Rubicon dragon lives at a time.
If more than one, they will destroy Paegeia and eventually the rest of the world as they crave that constant power for dominance.”

We’re also participating in the Fantastic Shorts Quick Fantasy Reads Giveway this month! What a great collection of short fantasy tales available for download FREE!
On the home front, we’re going to begin creating a few videos of me reading segments of Roland’s Path and Fires that Forge which can be found on our Facebook page here; Facebook Bloodlines. I’ve also begun work in earnest on Stalking Shadows, Book IV of the Lords of Order and Chaos Series.
In other news, some of you know I’m also a HUGE pen & paper RPG nerd. I had the chance to meet up with my gaming group from years ago this past weekend and did a ‘Guest GM’ spot for them and their new group. I’ve gotta say, I’m terribly envious of my buddy’s gaming room in that it’s a small building dedicated to nothing but! (pictured below) We all had a pretty good time but I did notice a lot of note-taking during the session. In retrospect, perhaps re-reading Machiavelli’s The Prince was a bad idea in that there were multiple assassination plots taking place simultaneously.

I am often asked, as I’m sure many other authors are, ‘where do you get your ideas?’ Well, above is the answer. Ideas are easy, it’s the execution of actually getting them written that’s difficult.
Here’s hoping you’re all surviving the Big Q and adjusting to the huge changes we’re all facing right now. Let me know how you’re doing. Feel free to drop me a line at rj@bloodlinesreforged.com with word of how you’re doing, questions about our tales, or comments about the story or the world of Stratvs. If you enjoy our brand of ‘humor’ or just want more frequent updates, you can follow us on Facebook here; Roland’s Quest!

Notable & Quotable

We’re coming to you a day early this week due Independence Day being tomorrow and the fact that I will be out of town celebrating with some other gamers and running a Rolemaster One Shot. I hope this weekend treats you all well.
This week’s Notable and Quotable comes from Bloom of Blood and Bone, Book II in the Lords of Order & Chaos Series.
-“Muerso blade,” Jonas said. “Forged of a black heart in the repugnance of the UnMaker. I’ve never seen anyone survive a scratch from one, much less a punctured lung.”

I also need to let you know about Arianna and the Spirit of the Storm, book I of the Temple of the Storm Series.
Here’s what an Amazon reviewer had to say, “I enjoyed diving into the world of Arianna and Chass; theirs is a journey of growth and change. What I loved: reading from multiple character perspectives, and the plot was interesting.”

We’re also participating in the Mid-June Fantasy Giveaway. I know, June is over, but you can still get these great fantasy reads for FREE! Check it out here;

In other news, some of you have been wondering about Margaret’s, our peahen, absence from the ranch pictures of late. I say ‘our’, but Margaret is a bit of a free-spirit, and comes & goes as she wishes. She hasn’t been around for a few weeks now… not until Tuesday morning that is. I was leaving for work and heard her honking down by the barn. I guess she concluded her sabbatical and is now back… for a while anyway.

It will never cease to amaze me how that bird can get to the top of our telephone pole to roost.
Here’s hoping you’re all surviving the Big Q and adjusting to the huge changes we’re all facing right now. Let me know how you’re doing. Notable & Quotable
This week’s Notable and Quotable comes from Bloom of Blood and Bone, Book II in the Lords of Order & Chaos Series.
Wait… what!? It’s not Saturday? I know, I know. I’m working some mandatory overtime tomorrow, thus you get your dose of Notable & Quotable a day early. So, without further ado, Here’s this week’s quote…
-He dropped to the sand of their cave soaking wet and shivering. Belyska threw the last of their wood on the fire and then ran to him. She rubbed the muscles of his shoulders and chest and pulled him close to her next to the fire. They stood there, holding each other, isolated from the world both had known. They held each other on their private island of pain and love. They both wept.

Some of the barn kittens are getting braver, as evidenced below. However, there are still about a dozen (we don’t have an accurate count because, as previously stated, they are by and large reclusive when it comes to human contact) as yet to be photographed.

Notable & Quotable

This week’s Notable and Quotable comes from Roland’s Vow, Book II of the Heirs of Vanity Series.
“My father was a cavalier, of the old Code,” Eldryn said. “I endeavor to honor his name and follow the Code of the Cavalier as well.”
“What Code?”
“The Code that kings and knights lived by before the Battles of Rending,” Eldryn said. “Has no one taught you this?”
“I know the Battles of Rending was when the gods were enraged and decided to remake the world,” Marnie said.
“There’s a good deal more to it than that,” Eldryn said. “The Code began as a means for people to live together for the benefit and protection of all. It evolved into a set of edicts bases on honor, responsibility, decency, humility, and personal sacrifice for the common good. It defined all the best attributes of civilized peoples.” “Isn’t that what laws are for?”
“The rule of law is enforced,” Eldryn said. “The rule of law is essentially a list of acts or omissions that, if violated, will cause those enforcing the law to use force against you. The Code was, and has always been, a voluntary choice to live in such a way that purifies the heart, strengthens the will, and edifies the soul. Furthermore, adherence to the Code ensures safety and justice. Not only safety for lords and ladies. Not only justice for those high born or the wealthy. The Code of the Cavalier strives to attain those lofty goals for one and all. In the days of the Battles of Rending it was argued that the Code stood against the gods and the worship of them. Nothing could be farther from the truth. The Code re-enforces the core concepts of all goodly religions and beliefs.”

I also need to let you know about BridgeFinders, Book I of the Echo Worlds Series by Joshua C. Cook.
“Not just sounds have an echo.
Another world, an echo of our own. A world where magic is as common as air, a world ruled by a being known only as the Slyph. Cendan Key knows nothing of this. He lives in his logic, and dispassionate action. Logic can’t provide all the answers when he is swept into the world of the Bridgefinders. A secret order fighting an eons long war with the Slyph, a war they are on the edge of losing forever. Cendan alone can turn the tide of this war. That is, if anyone can tell him how.”
We’re also participating in the All Genre Clean Giveaway. You can find in all here, thriller, sci/fi, fantasy, mystery, and it’s all ‘clean.’ FREE downloads for those of you who wish to avoid rough language or are perhaps looking for something for that younger member of your household.

For those of you asking after the barn cats and our new batches of kittens, here are a few pics. Of course, when Margaret heard we were doing a photoshoot, she had to get in on it. If you’ve ever wondered how many kittens will fit on an old tractor seat, the answer is at least four.

Notable & Quotable
– Silas stirred to the low whistling of wind passing through a nearby chimney… no, chimneys. He looked around but could not see them. He listened for several long moments noting changes in pitch and tone and timed those with the slight changes in the speed and direction of the mountaintop wind gusts. He decided there must be a network of chimneys and tunnels that, when the north wind blew, played music much like an elaborate flute.
He thought it a shame the way lives were squandered for petty advantages and pursuits of vanity. There was so much beauty hidden in such variety throughout the world. Yet so many were obsessed with their own little corners and pockets of society.
Those were his thoughts as lay on his stomach and he ran his hand into the dark and cool depths under a rocky shelf. Presently the mountain snake struck, driving its fangs deep into the flesh between Silas’s thumb and king finger. Silas smiled.

Thank you to everyone that has emailed and messaged their well-wishes in regard to my procedure this week. For those of you who didn’t know, I had heart surgery earlier this week which has slowed me down some. We had a bit of rough weather around here over the past week but were certainly more fortunate than many others just a few miles down the road that lost homes and businesses to tornadoes. We had some baseball size hail and flooding. We noticed a number of people stopping on the road next to our fenceline; I assumed to look at the high water marks and the results of the flooding.

As you can tell from the pictures, the water was flowing over a five-wire fence at one point. Also, we discovered one of our Halloween decorations (one lost about 5 years ago in another tornado). I’m pretty sure our skeleton was the cause of so many folks stopping to look.

Notables and Quotables
Silas now realized he had smelled the charged air of a glade just before a spring thunderstorm in the vestibule just outside. Now, in these quarters, the heavy smell of the inside of a grave was back and tinted lightly with the presence of herbs and perfume.
