Notable & Quotable
I hope this week’s newsletter finds you all well. This week’s Notable & Quotable, comes from Fires that Forge, Book I of the Lords of Order & Chaos Series, available now at Audible.com and on Amazon.
Lady Evalynne leaned over a map of Tarborat and studied another of the mountain passes to the west of Moras. The black gown that she wore did little to cover her strong, yet shapely body.
She was a woman of uncommon will, possessed of a beauty that had felled as many men as her deadly sword. Her dark golden hair was pulled into a side ponytail and hung down past her neckline.
She was undoubtedly of the Great Man race as evidenced by her exceptional six feet four inches of height and powerful shoulders and arms.
Her dress was in the fashion of most ladies of Moras and of the courts. A lush gown, Roarkor bracelet, and diamond choker adorned her sea browned skin. However, she also wore a dagger strapped to her thigh and was never more than a step away from a sword, axe, or hammer.
She was the Lady of Moras now and had been for several decades. However, she had lived as a successful pirate for a century before that.

As to life here in our little corner of the world, we are all doing well. Our darling Pinker is not an early riser. This is the look I get every morning when Michelle and I get our day started. She knows our routines and knows when we’re getting ready to go to work. Which, of course, means we will be leaving her alone forever and ever and ever… possibly to never never never return again.

Notable & Quotable
I hope this week’s newsletter finds you all well. This week’s Notable & Quotable, comes from Fires that Forge, Book I of the Lords of Order & Chaos Series.
“Yes, sir,” Keryk said. “Sir, if I may? If you require any assistance on this case, I’d be happy to help.”
“You have your duties as watchman,” Dunewell said as he slid his war hammer into its steel ring on his belt.
“I meant in my off-duty hours, sir,” Keryk said.
Dunewell stopped what he was doing to look at the young man. True enough, they looked the same age. However, Dunewell’s race allowed for a much longer life than that of the common man, which in turn meant much slower aging. Dunewell guessed he was at least two decades older than the young watchman. Keryk was sandy-haired and possessed of clear brown eyes and a sure way about him.
“Why?”
“I hope to make inquisitor someday, sir,” Keryk said. “I’ve asked around and you’re the best. I hoped to learn from you.”
“You understand what the position requires?”
“Yes, sir. I can read. I’ve studied sums as well. In sparring I’m as good with an axe and shield as some of the best watchmen.”
“Family at home?”
“No sir.”
“Who is your sergeant?”
“That’d be Ulling, sir.”
“Very well,” Dunewell said. “I’ll speak to your sergeant tomorrow. If possible, I’ll have you reassigned as my assistant, for the time being. You’ll have your chance to prove yourself. You must understand, though, it is dangerous work. We’ll not be knocking drunks on the head in tavern brawls or scooping up a twelve-year-old cutpurse in the marketplace.”
“I understand, sir. I assure you I am prepared and ready.”
“No need for your assurances, Keryk,” Dunewell said. “I’ll see for myself soon enough. In the mean-time attend to your duties as normal until you hear from me or your sergeant tomorrow.”

This week’s tale to share comes from J.A. Brooklyn. Black Sanctuary is set in the magical kingdom of Alder. It tells the story of Eve, an orphan who, after years of fighting to survive, is adopted by her aunt, Elizabeth. She offers Eve a life of luxury, a chance to learn magic, and become part of a family again. But Eve can only ask herself questions – the kinds of questions any child might ask when their family shows up after years of silence. What do you want? Why now? What makes you think I can ever trust you again?
Also I need to mention C.J.R. Isely’s audiobook, Ranger of Kings, which is now available on Audible.com.
As to life here in our little corner of the world, we are all doing well.
This past RPG session was a wild one. We played our homebrew multiverse campaign that Alex was kind enough to GM. It’s a heck of a concept in that any character from any genre, universe, or time period can be thrown into the mix. For example, Tarik (my character) ‘Witch Hunter’ by profession. Born in Romania in 1903, he grew up in New York City and traveled back to Romania to defend his home country during WWI (or the Great War as he calls it). During the trench fighting he encountered a vampire and by happenstance managed to slay the creature. Now, after being mentored by other Hunters, he travels the countryside, and multiverse, hunting evil creatures and protecting an unaware populace. The last campaign involved Tarik, a Space Marine Search & Rescue Tech from the year 4886, a Viking warrior from the year 943, and an Investigator from Scotland Yard who had just recently been on the trail of Jack the Ripper. It’s a lot of wild fun!

Notable & Quotable
I hope this week’s newsletter finds you all well. This week’s Notable & Quotable, comes from Stalking Shadows, Book IV in the Lords of Order & Chaos Series, set to release later this year.
Very well, Jandanero continued, we’ll move beyond the tact of answering a question with a question. His abdication is no surprise to me. His desire to rule has continued to wane over the last centuries, according to all reports from my spies. Nor is his alliance with Lynneare a surprise. They were friends once. Returning to the service of a master you know can be comforting. Familiar pain is still something familiar, and do not underestimate his pain. However, Maloch’s appearance at the side of this risen Lord of Order is troubling. Perhaps it is a gambit by Lynneare, although a poison pill disguised in the form of a fallen drow paladin seems like a poorly concealed ‘blade in waiting.’ Furthermore, it strikes me as very odd that so many new threats should come to our door only to leave again in the pursuit of other interests.
An excellent assessment, my Queen, Ellz observed. And your planned response?
These are truly chaotic times, Jandanero said, smiling. And chaos creates opportunity.

I’m very excited to tell you about the Mists of Kel Doran Novels by S.L. Matthews. You can test drive this fantasy series for free on the website!
The Mists of Kel Doran series was never meant to be contained within a single book. It is intended to be a sprawling, epic saga that spans continents – and generations. Some storylines will resolve within a single book, while others will span multiple. The ‘Dragon-Touched’ season is the largest, detailing the fallen city of Wyvern’s Rest and its struggle to maintain freedom – and survival – against all odds.
As a single tv episode reveals a piece of a larger story, so too will each book in my series, each one building upon the last, expanding the adventure and immersing you deeper into the world of Kel Doran. If you enjoy series such as Game of Thrones (season 8 excluded!), The Witcher, Stranger Things, or The Mandalorian, you will love the Mists of Kel Doran. Grab a seat, buckle up, and enter the mist!

A Selfless Sacrifice, by Paul Cude, is available for a limited time for FREE! “In a united world where peace flourishes, one land stands in the way of progress… Ahrensburg, ruled by a despotic dragon leader through fear, violence and intimidation. Can a diplomatic delegation reconcile dark with light and bring the whole planet under one umbrella?”

Notable & Quotable
This week’s Notable & Quotable, comes from Fires that Forge (of course). Enjoy!
She had been careful to conceal her scars from chains and her emaciated form until now. She began traveling to different priests in different provinces, healing only a single wound or scar at a time.
Dru spent two months resting, gaining strength, and healing. She also spent that time dancing. She did not dance with joy or with a light heart. She danced the grueling dance of the Ussa people. A dance that bent and stretched the body and the mind. A dance that manipulated the limbs and soul of both the dancer and her adversary. Her mother had once called her a beautiful dancer. Now she became a dangerous one.

I also need to mention Beryl Kelland’s (I love that name!) book, First Light. Forest. Fear. Fate. “Follow me…” Briony Alder has never felt like she belongs. A yearning homesickness and a strange connection to the forest beyond her grandmother’s house fill her with a sense of foreboding.
As to life here in our little corner of the world, we are all doing well. Young Master William is developing quite a grip. Shortly after this picture was taken I was screaming in pain and I now have a bit of a bald spot on my jaw.

Notable & Quotable
I hope this week’s newsletter finds you all well. We are very excited to announce the audiobook of Fires that Forge, Book I of the Lords of Order & Chaos Series, is now available on Audible! If you’re reading this newsletter, you’ve already been entered into a drawing to win one of five FREE downloads of this epic fantasy adventure. Furthermore, to celebrate the audiobook release, I’m making the ebook of Fires that Forge FREE to download from Amazon beginning this coming Tuesday, April 6th, and running through Friday, April 9th. To add to this great deal, I’m also running a Kindle Count Down Deal on the boxset, Heirs of Vanity, beginning April 6th at 8:00 a.m. It will be discounted 91% on Tuesday!
This week’s Notable & Quotable, as I’m sure you would assume, comes from Fires that Forge.
“I think it’s time we had a word,” came from the dark corner near the iron stove.
Silas was innately calm however he calculated that startlement would serve him best. He allowed himself a slight squeal and jumped as he turned to face the voice. A figure emerged from the deep shadow there, impossibly unfolding, until it stood the height of a grown man. A man dressed in one of the Sanctum’s nurses’ coats.
“Your father and I had business,” the figure said. “Unless you prove to be a complete fool, I see no need in that business waning.”
“How did you get in here?”
“I have my ways, ways that you would not understand.”
“I might surprise you,” Silas said.
“You have, Young Steward Silas of House Morosse, you have.”
“Meaning?”
“Let’s not get caught up in that while we have business to discuss.”
“Did you kill my parents?” Silas asked.
That question was answered with a genuine laughter seemingly born of complete surprise.
“That you should ask me that,” the figure said as he emerged fully from the shadows wearing the face of a nurse Silas knew well. “That is quite funny. More surprises yet. Rest assured, I know who killed Steward Killian and Lady Helena. Let us not speak of such mundane topics. Let us get to it as the miners say.”
Another audiobook fresh out of the recording booth is Kim Vermaak’s The Fire Within The Storm. Give it a listen. This week we also have a great fantasy tale from R.A. Lewis, Born of Air, which is also available as an audiobook through Audible and Amazon. “The dragon riders disappeared the year she was born.
Kalina is a nobody, an orphan whose only remarkable trait is the silver hair she is forced to hide. But when she overhears that she might be a child of the Valdir, a silver-haired race of dragon riders that disappeared sixteen years ago, she chooses to leave her old life behind and venture into the unknown to discover who she is and where the dragons disappeared to.”
As to life here in our little corner of the world, we are all doing well. This past weekend I continued the tutelage of young Master William, my great-nephew, in the wonderful world of fantasy RPGs.
Pinker has also stepped up her game in regard to our morning routine. She knows that when I put on my boots, I’m leaving the house (maybe to be gone FOREVER!). Thus, she will either bring me a fetch toy to drop at my feet while I’m trying to get them on or she will lay on the bed giving me hurtful looks. She has now stepped up her game. When a 110-pound dog doesn’t want you to put your boots on, it becomes quite a task.

I hope this week’s newsletter finds you all well. We are very excited to announce the audiobook of Fires that Forge, Book I of the Lords of Order & Chaos Series, is in the final approval stage with Audible.com. Keep an eye on our newsletter and Facebook page for your chance to win a free download!
This week’s Notable & Quotable comes from a recent gaming session of ours. We were discussing a new player character of mine that is half ogre and half drow. One of our players said, “what kind of messed up dating site led to his parents meeting?” Of course that was followed by a free-for-all of possible names for fantasy dating websites;
bloodlustmingle.com
harmersonly.com
tindr_izer.com
disharmony.com
ourcrime.com
coffeemeetsbagel.com
and
plentyofflesh.com
It was also mentioned that they might have met through a mutual online game, World of War Crimes.
You can find an ever-growing glossary and geographic guide on our website here; www.bloodlinesreforged.com. You can also find a few spoilers such as the lineage of kingdoms, the Code of the Cavalier, and so on.
The tale this week comes from author Crystal Crawford. The Edge of Nothing is a “Portal into an epic fantasy / soft sci-fi mashup teeming with quirky characters, shocking twists, and high-stakes adventure.”
For the Kindle Unlimited readers out there we have The Razvak Hunter, by Arel B. Grant. “As the Fairest One of Vallenthar, Aelwyd commands formidable power. Years of battle honed her into a fearsome warrior who never falters in front of an enemy.
However, there are shadows that when they come, they can swallow you whole.
After a hundred years of praying against it, the minute she walks into the chilling scene of death in front of her, she knows her personal nightmare is back.”
As to life here in our little corner of the world, we are all doing well. All of us except my dear Pinker. We were quarantined for a while and had some other health issues occur which meant we spent an unusual amount of time at home. Someone got very spoiled to me being around all day. Now, when I leave for work, this is the face I get.

Notable & Quotable
I hope this week’s newsletter finds you all well. Before we get to the Notable & Quotable, I have exciting news. The audiobook of Fires that Forge, Book I of the Lords of Order & Chaos Series, is in final production! Check our future newsletters and/or Facebook page for your chance to win a FREE download through Audible!
This week’s Notable & Quotable comes from Roland’s Path, Book I of the Heirs of Vanity Series.
Roland walked for twenty more feet and entered a round room set with tables, bunks, and furniture. A barracks. Roland scanned the room for movement or a sign of the voices he had heard before but saw nothing. The voices had stopped. That meant something. However, it probably meant something bad.
Roland could hear Eldryn coming up the hallway behind him. He had to get them out in the open before Eldryn got here. If one of them was ambushed, they would still have a chance. If both of them were ambushed, then they might very well be lost.
Roland strode to the center of the room. He looked around him again and then he felt the hair on the back of his neck stand on end. Roland dropped to his knees and spun in time to see two daggers fly over his head. Dawn, who was now suddenly easy to see, rushed out of the darkness toward Roland with a falchion in one hand and a mace in the other. Roland stood, but just barely in time to begin to parry Dawn’s attacks. She was quick, and vicious. Roland struggled to keep his footing and knew he was being pressed back in a particular direction.
You can find an ever-growing glossary and geographic guide on our website here; www.bloodlinesreforged.com. You can also find a few spoilers such as the lineage of kingdoms, the Code of the Cavalier, and so on.
This week I want to tell you about the chance to read the first chapter of Sorrowfish, by Anne C. Miles, for FREE! Named Best Fantasy 2019 by Indies Today! In this chapter, Trystan first plays an enchanted lute for Baron Pickell. These lutes are forbidden. This is the scene which sets Trystan off on his journey and begins the entire story. But the editrix felt that it was extraneous. So it was cut from the book and now is offered exclusively to you.
The second tale I want to mention this week is Silver Wings, by Kim Vermaak. Below Nadine’s medieval village, the fragile peace that dragons and mankind had died to forge, is about to shatter.
As to life here in our little corner of the world, we are all doing well. Pinker has discovered how to open the back door to let herself in and out with the bother of a human around. However, she did have some trouble figuring out how to get her bone into the house (we made a trip to a local butcher’s and collected some cow bones for her which she LOVES). Being the intelligent and persistent gal that she is, she finally managed it, much to Michelle’s chagrin.
Spring is right around the corner here and I hope yours arrives soon as well. Let me know how you’re doing. Notable & Quotable

I hope this week’s newsletter finds you all well. This week’s Notable & Quotable comes from Stalking Shadows, Book IV of the Lords of Order & Chaos Series, scheduled for release later this year.
“Do not underestimate him,” Lady Dru said with an edge to her voice. “And, do not act against him unless I have expressly permitted it. Am I absolutely clear on those points?”
“Yes, my Lady. I’ll not act against any drow under Queen Jandanero’s rule without your express permission.”
“You do know that it angers me when you employ your studies of the law in our conversations?”
“Force of habit. Sorry, my Lady. I take your meaning, and will not violate your trust nor your plans in any way.”
The room fell uncomfortably silent for several long moments before Silas spoke again.
“It was encouraging to see Jandanero and Rogash cooperating on such an enterprise. I was concerned that their vast differences would prevent any cooperation at all.”
“Did you not notice the assassins concealed about the chamber?” Dru asked, a bit surprised at Silas’s lack of awareness.

As to life here in our little corner of the world, we are all doing well. A blizzard, or at least in our part of the world it rates as a blizzard, hit earlier this week. We enjoyed some snow and sub-zero temperatures for a few days there. We also had to spend some time chopping ice on the tanks so the cattle could get a drink. I tried to get a picture of Pinker enjoying the snow (she LOVED it by the way) but could only get video. She was moving far too fast to get a picture. You can see the video of her here; https://www.facebook.com/RolandsQuest

“Whoever reported the body was somehow involved,” Medaci said, now drawing deeply from his pipe. “Following the line that this murder was mocked up to look like the work of a vampire and, failing that, to look as though Whillyd is the one who killed your witness.”
“It is a stretch,” Dunewell said.
“Yes,” Medaci agreed. “But it does seem to fall into a pattern.”
“Who reported the body?” Keryk asked.
“A street boy,” Medaci said. “The watchman didn’t get his name. I’m following up with him tomorrow to obtain a description.”
“We have business at the temple near House Morosse tomorrow,” Dunewell said. “Perhaps we can meet for lunch and discuss our findings.”
“Agreed,” Medaci said. “One more thing. Steward Silas asked to see my notes on the vampire attacks.”
“You are your own man,” Dunewell said. “But I see no harm in allowing it. He is very curious about them and may be able to offer some insight.”
“Very well.”

As to life here in our little corner of the world, we are all doing well. Pinker has decided that she needs a special pillow to chew her bones on. Apparently raising Great Danes is much like raising teenagers. You have to pick your battles and learn to be happy with the wins.
